History Founded in 1964 as Blue Ribbon Sports by track athlete Philip

Knight and his coach Bill Bowerman (Beaverton, Oregon) The company started as a distributor for a Japanese shoe

maker, making most sales at track meets out of Knight’s automobile

Officially became Nike, Inc. on May 30, 1978

Revenue increased to $6.74 billion by the late 70’s . In 2000 sales reached $12 billion.
