3NEW BOOK (continued from page 1)

This is the first of a series of six l2/6d books covering theuse of SOP Goals, its tools and the data of Scientology for Professional use.

The tentative titles are:E-Meter Essentials,Modern Auditing,The A.natomy of the Human Mind,The Axioms Explained,SOP Goals andThe Dictionary of Scientology.

All six books contain the vital materials necessary to produceclears. They are to be called The Clearing Series.

fiE-Meter Essentials tl is the first of these and should be completed by the printer in three weeks.

It is not a discourse on meters. It is solid meat. If I had putit in Bulletin form we .would all be mimeographing for the next yearand still not have the data for use. This is the material neededabout a meter to run SOP Goals.

4TERROR STALKS

by L. Ron Hubbard

I was alerted into an analysis of why we 're fought by comments from an organization executive.

An analysis shows there may have been many reasons but afurther look makes them invalid.

A peircing scream against Dianetics arose before the firstbook was published in 1950. Press was hot against it before thefirst foundation was formed.

For seven months before there was any personnel or personal troubles publicised, the bulk of articles against Dianetics hadalready appe~red. At one time three national magazines weresimultaneously on the stands screaming in lead articles aboutDianetics and myself - and this was five months before any "divorce" publicity. And amongst the hundreds of reporters andcommentators who screamed only one ever talked to me, and, from various evidences, none had read the book or knew anythingabout the subject.

Until May, 1950 I received only favorable publicity - on expeditions or ccrrilings or goings. In May 1950 there was a concerted shriek from people who '(a) had not read the books and (b) whoknew nothing bad about me.

These howls came from both conservative and liberal groupsalike -' the AMA - The CommIes, the Socialists-:-the Roman Catholic s.

Thus we can rule the following facts out of all the protestsand "bad pUblicity" of the past eleven years:

1. That it stems from any knowledge of the subject;2. That it is a concerted effort by anyone group; and3. That it is based on any knowledge of myself. Now if we look further we also find these facts:4. In the past eleven years, some thousands of texts have

been written on the subject of philosophy, Man, the mind in various univer sities;

5. In the past eleven years thousands of men, not connectedwith universities or groups have originated and forwarded philosophies about Man;

Thus, with all these targets nO protest has been made bygroups or press against new philOSophies.

And now let us look further:6. Many truly dangerous practices have risen up amongst

men such as a new Indian ver sian of whirling dervishism. nowrampant in England;

7. Brainwashing was introduced in the past eleven years bythe Russians;

8. A dozen violent and harmful psychiatric treatments havebeen developed.

~, " ", , 5And,nQ sustained prote~t has: continued tpbe,madeinthe Pl.7ess

a~.ainst these. Indeed the UoS.Government adopted.brainwashingcalmly anCl the British Government and people of the U CJ S. haveaC,cepted newpsyc~hiatrictreattnents" organiz'ations ap.d propa-ganda'without real protest. "

Looking at all these things, then it would seem that protestsagainst Dianetics and Scientology do not stem from a knowledgeof myself, they do not stem from a knowledge of the substance ofthe work, they do not stem from conservative or liberal groupsand they are not a protest against philosophy, philosophers, orevil practices, and they are not an effort to protect the public.

If you look this over with cold dispassion, examine itthoroughly frotn the light of the facts, only one explainationseems to remain.

They are terrified of our postulate s !This analysis places a fantastic dissemination weapon in our

hands. The terror in the protest is obvious since it is misemotional and is not based on confronted facts.

To any attack by anyone, we can reply, "Why are you terrified of Scientology? II or "Why are you afraid of Hubbard? II ortJWhy are you frightened of Scientologists? II

For plainly this is the case. People don't even know wereach for witholds - yet terror! Protest! Screams!

Now I'll admit to having plied philosophy before within thewhole track memory of Earth dwellers. Harm did not result. But evil was destroyed. And 1111 admit that evil men sense thegerms of their own destruction.

There may be unconscious recognition in this. Maybe itsthe Fourth Dynamic bank that yells back.

But, of this we ireCertain. We inspire terror in some men."Why are you terrified of Scientology?" is the best answer. It as -ises the condition.

I think we ought to use it.

DIANETICS: THE MODERN SCIENCE OF MENTAL HEALTHby L. Ron Hubbard.Quotes from. the book:

Ii tiThe goal of Man, the lowest common denominator of all hisactivities, the dynamic principle of his extistence, has long beensought. Should such an answer be discovered, it is inevitablethat from. it m.any answers would flow. It would explain all phenomena of behavior; it would lead toward a solution of Man's majorproblems; and, most of all, it should be workable. "m trMan will endure a lot of pain to obtain a little pleasure. Out

In the laboratory of the world, it takes very little time to confirm that.

And how does necessity fit this picture? There is a necessity for pleasure, a necessity as live and quivering and vital asthe hum.an heart itself. He who said that a man who had twoloaves of bread should sell one to buy a white hyacinth, spokesooth. The creative, the constructive, the beautiful, the harmonious, the adventurous, yes, even escape from the maw ofoblivion, these things are 'pleasure and these things are necessity. There was a man once who walked a thousand miles just tosee an orange tree and another who was a mass of scars and poorset bones who was eager just· to get another chance to "fan anotherbronc •

It is very well to dwell in some Olympian height and write abook of penalties and very well to read to find what writers saidthat other writers said, but it is not very practical.

The pain-drive theory does not work. If some of these basicsof dianetic s were only poetry about the idyllic state of Man, theymight be justified in that, but it happens that out in the laboratoryof the world, they work.

Man, in affinity with Man, survives, and that survival ispleasure. "

8 From Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Healthby L. Ron Hubbard.

"In the original equations of Dianetics, when the research waswas yOWlg, it was believed that survival could be envisioned inpersonal terms alone and still answer all conditions. A theoryis only as good as it works o And it works as well as it explainsobserved data and predicts new material which will be found, infact, toexist.

Survival in personal terms was computed until the whole activity of Man could be theoretically explained in terms of selfalone. The logic looked fairly valid. But then it was applied tothe world. Something was wrong: it did not solve problems. Infact, the theory of survival in personal terms alone was so unworkable that it left a majority of behavior phenomena unexplained. But it could be computed and it still looked good.

Then it was that a nearly intuitive idea occurred. Man's understanding developed in ratio to his recognition of his brotherhood with the Universe. That was high flown but it yieldedresults. II

ABILITY, Issue 80 - a 36 page booklet containing the Axiomsof Scientology, The Prelogic s, The Logic s, and the Axiomsof Dianetics -- by L. Ron Hubbard. $ 1.25.A tremendous amount of basic knowledge in concise form. Here are the Prelogics:

Q. 1. Self determinism is the common denominator of all lifeimpulses.

Q. 2. Definition of self-determinism: the ability to locate inspace and time energy and matter, also the ability tocreate space and time in which to create and locateenergy and matter. The identification of the source of that which placesmatter and energy and originates space and time is notnecessary to the resolution of this problem at this time.Theta creates space, energy and objects by postulates.Universes are created by the application of self-determinism on eight dynamics.Self-determinism, applied, will create, alter, conserveand possibly destroy universes. The action cycle is one of the abilities of a thetan. Anaction cycle goes from 40. 0 to O. 0 on the tone scale. An action cycle is the creation, growth, conservation, decay and death or destruction of energy and matter ina space. Action cycles produce time.

~ "This book is built around a chart. On the many columns of this chart we find the majority of

the conponents of the human mind and all those necessary toprocess an individual.

In this book we will take up these columns one by one fromleft to right and explain each column. ff

(This refers to The Hubbard Chart of Human Evaluationwhich is included with this book. )~ "No attempt is made in this volume to be literary or aca

demic. I would happily take off a couple of years and write yousomething highly polished, but we Ire trying to get where we Iregoing before the atom bomb gets there, and navigating thecourse takes a little time. So live just written here what I knowabout this chart in a way I think you III understand, The book isorganized around the chart, not around the longest words in thedictionary: this is made possible by a certain difference betweenDianetics and some other ,subjects -- in those, the author has tomake up in complication what he lacks in understanding of hissubject, so the critics will be impressed. Damn the critics, let!s get down to paragraph one and open up to flank speed. There's a sane world to be won. II

DIANETICS: THE EVOLUTION OF A SCIENCEby L o RON HUBBARD. $ 1.25

"My right to enter this field was an inquiring brain whichhad been trained in mathematics and engineering and which had amemory bank full of questions and far-flung observations.

It was the basic contention that the human mind was a problem in engineering and that all knowledge would surrender to anengineering approach.

And another primary assumption was made:All answers are basically simple. As it stands today, the science of Dianetics and its results-

which are as demonstrable as the proposition that water, at fifteen pO\Ulds per square inch and 212 0 F. boils - - is an engineering science, built heuristically on axioms. It works. That isthe only claim for Dianetics or chemistry. They may not beTrue. But they work and work invariably in the finite world. II

Dianetics: The Evolution of a Science tells the story of howDianetics was built.

SCIENTOLOGISTS WRITE:

I entered the HCA course with the idea of processing myfive little grandaughters informally, in the summers whenthey visit me on my California ranch; and to use the principles of Scientology in my everyday life.

Then, when I was being audited in the HGC, I admiredmy auditor and her smooth auditing so m.uch, that I thought Imight possibly audit professionally - she made it seem likesuch a natural, easy thing to do.

My last weeks on the course again, made me really surethat lid like to become a profe'ssional auditor. Some successin student co-auditing clinched the matter for me - I was forauditing, and auditing was for me.

Under Scientology i have gained a greater importance tomyself, and 11m able to like myself better than I have foryears past. .

Hester Parsons

I have since 1955 had occassional preclears for processing and who paid for it. Most of these were teen-agers whowere interested in increasing their ability to do better workin school and without exception I have been able to help themaccomplish their goals.

One of these, a boy, came to me last summer. He wasflunking his school work and associating with the wronggroups and had become an incorrigible person to get alongwith. This last year he made a straight A average and challenged two other courses which he passed by exam. Hecreated quite a lot of interest and comments in the schooland won two complete four year scholarships. He attributesit to his processing and is very happy about it. His parentsfeel the same wayo

Ted R. Best

I asked my thirteen year old preclear, at the end of histwenty-five hour intensive, to write up a history of his case.I did this partly to get his own reality on his achievementsand partly to assemble Borne case histories. Enclosed is hisreport. I find it remarkable, but no more so than Jimmy ishimself. He is everything that one would wish a boy to be.

Ralph E. GrimesThe report follows:This report will probably turn out as a before, during

and after, so I hope that's what you want. First, the before.Since I had entered GoimtryDay in 1956 I had been breez

ing along, leading the class grades-wise, somewhere aroundboredom on the tone scale.

I had certain ideas - I wanted to succeed, but I didn'tknow what at, and I wanted to fulfill my purpose.

12NEW CLEAR IN AFRICA

The clear recently made in Bulaway() receives these comments by his auditor, John Kennedy. The two-way corom wasprobably unnecessa.ry in the clearing. Running change or pre-havbuttons as themselves probably would have been faster, however, you can't criticize an auditor who's made a clear!

L o R~N HUBBARD.

Here is the text of John Kennedy's letter:

Well the big news here is that I have made a CLEAR in a 50hour intensive, I mean CLEAR too. He has been Clear 14 daysnow and there is no sign of slipping back in spite of a tremendouslot of confusion -that has been blowing off amongst his family, friends and at work.

He came to me for 50 hours with a great deal of INNOCENCEand in lousy shape. He was one of the most miserable people liveknown (and by the way I've known an awful lot of miserable people). His graph had only the D column just about the line - the restwere all below with bags of manics.

I sat him down and just audited him. I didn't use a processfor 20 hours to start - 2 way corom and with engram running alsolocks and secondary - by the way the two way coroming wasagainst the buttons on the Pre-Have Scale. I then got his terminalas per Goals SOP and Bang! he was clear. He did not have agoal to be "clear"; the word didn't mean a thing as he was veryraw but what change - this bloke was transformed from completemisery to fantastic state of happiness and ability.

His now abilities scared the living daylights out of him andas he approached 'Clear' things got pretty wild at times. Heworks in an organization here with about ZOO other people. Thewhole place went into a 'tiz I when this bloke went back to workafter 14 days a completely different bloke.

I haven't got enough paper to tell you all about the effects hecreated but I can tell you they were all big and caused quite astir.

CLEARING LIST

There are a lot of people on this planet - - it will takea long time to clear them all.

It is Ron·s especial intention that, after Central Orgstaffs, those people who communicated to the Central Org.by answering Questionnaire Abilities 105 and 121 and theAssessment Questionnaries are being put on a SpecialClearing List.

A Message to People Interested in Learning How to UseScientology in the Best Possible Way .

Sometimes, it seems that it takes more than one or two communications to have people KNOW that something good is available. To a worl¢! of people who have for the most part openly orsecretly given up hope of improvement, one must assume thatthis is the case.

Can it be that you yourself have to some degree gone intoagreement with this attitude?

The world as a whole long since gave up striving for realimprovement. Revolutions today are not even real revolutionsto strike off the yoke of the enslaver. They are "revolutions" towelcome back the slavemaster and the exploiter of human beings.Such is the level of degradation of self that most of the hutnanrace is in today.

Not all, we know. You have reached for help, for recovery, for a better life.

(Continued on page 15)

14(Continued from page 11)

About this purpose. Since I was about six, I have knownthat I have a purpose. I didn It know what, at that time, but Iknew I had one. I also knew that, because of this purpose, everything that happened, for me, to me or with me, I caused. This great feeling of cause was the main reason that I was ashigh as I was on the tone scale, and why I did so well at mosteverything I did.

Well, everything was going along fine, around boredom, until I entered the seventh grade. Finally, I was up against somekids who had at least as much tone as I did, and I finally had aclass that was hard (Mr. Grimes social class). Gosh! I shotdown to grief quite quickly, and then down to apathy.

About that time Mr. Grimes stepped in, and before I knewit, I was on a regular schedule of short sessions.

Even though my study halls were cut down by about 500/0, mygrades started to soar, and for the first time I got some decenttone and began to like school.

After a while of processing I began to realize what my purpose was. If all goes well, as it should, I expect to start somesort of auditors school. I have not mocked up where, but thatcan wait for now.

Since one of my goals is to become an auditor, Mr. Grimesstarted running me on the TRs, and the day after tomorrow Istart auditing one of my fellow classmates.

Now, after my intensive has drawn to a close, and I am beginning to settle out, I can feel the real changes that have comeabout in me because of Scientology. My tone in everything is justshort of serene. I've started some really good games, and I nowhave direction in my life·,. Oh yes, about that feeling of causethat I used to have, multiply it 100 times and that's less than thecause I feel now.

There are other things that are different now, such as thefact that I have everything, but I think that the greatest thing thatI have gained is that now I am really here.

In closing now I would like to express my appreciation forScientology, which has given me the most valuable gift in theworld - myseU.

It seems, though, that you are sometimes disheartened, feeling maybe that you can It do very much about the staggeringimmensity of the ills of Mankind.

But see, improvement starts with one person. A group, anation, a world is unimprovable if you only look at the whole instead of the parts.

The freeing of Man from bondage begins with one person. Then one other person. Then another. --You can free yourself - by getting Clear or at least released. You can free another by auditing him or her. And then an-

other. That is the path to a sane and workable freedom. If one per

son in the whole wide·.world has been set free, the slavery in thehuman race in the bulk has numbered days. Dictatorship, whetherit be the dicatorship of the commisars or of the reactive mindcannot survive long the presence of just one free being. Look atthis statement again. A dictatatorship cannot tolerate the presence of freedom. First it tries to enslave that which is free.Failing this, it attempts to kill it. Failing that, it may attemptto attack it covertly under the guise of "alliance".· That failing,it will try to avoid the free being. Then, still failing to eliminate the free one, it will rapidly collapse in on itself, trying to buyoff the presence of the f~ee, then, vainly seeking its sympathyand as a last ditch re sort attempting to prove itself totally notdangerous to that which is free. Then it dies and that is that.

One Clear in China today would bring down in utter and complete defeat the entire "monolithic" totalitarianism of Chinesecommunism.

Perhaps at this point some of this message is getting to you.Your way to help Man is surely quite plain. It is to be free yourself and to help others to be free.Think how difficult to the enslavers of Man have been even

the un-clear seekers of freedom. It has been many a long century since despotism has enjoyed unrestricted sway.

A Clear is a pretty hard-to-kill being. Even a releasedhuman is hard to bring under the "control tl of a despot.

A Clear is under no disadvantage of aberration. He canthink too fast for an aberree, even in the bulk, to really puthim at effect. Before the aberrated enslaver knew it, the Clearwould be controlling him. This would tend to cramp his style,to say the least. --

Freedom starts with one person~ That person might justas well be you. --

Get processed to the state of Clear or at least Release. Both are stable levels: Clear takes somewhat longer than release.

Get trained to release and Clear others.Make this your program for this life, whatever else you do.We'll help you.

John FudgeOrganizational Secretary.
