Monarch’s Musings By Pro. David Andrew Labagh, Potent Monarch THE PILLAR Divisional Winner for Best Grotto Newsletter 2013 & 2014 VoL. III, Issue 4 APRIL 2015 The Pillar is the official publication of Ubar Grotto, MOVPER, located in Elizabethtown, PA. Constituted July 23, 2011. Stated Meetings held on the 4th Sunday of each month, beginning at 6 PM, except July, August, and December. I'm excited to once again welcome Ubar Grotto's 11 new prophets brought into the Realm at our March meeting. Af- ter our first ceremonial of 2015, I'm pleased to announce that we're over half way toward our membership goal. Now onto another goal we have this year... 100% participa- tion in the Enchanted Lantern Program! An Enchanted Lantern represents a contribution of $50 to the Humanitari- an Foundation, our official charity. Ubar takes pride in be- ing a large contributor to this charitable cause and, of course, in beating Azim's number of Enchanted Lanterns purchased over the year. Our officers have set a goal this year to make sure that every prophet in Ubar Grotto has an Enchanted Lantern in their name - something no other Grotto, not even Azim, can say they've done. While we're almost there, we need your help. In order to help us achieve this goal, I promise that, on the day of our May meeting, I will run 1 mile (up to 50 miles) for every Enchanted Lantern purchased at our April stated meeting. If you haven't purchased an Enchanted Lantern yet or would like to purchase one in the name of another prophet, consider doing this at our April stated meeting. Make me run 50 miles in one day in order to raise aware- ness for our charity... I dare you. I'm looking forward to seeing you all at our stated meeting and reaching our goal of 100% participation in the En- chanted Lantern Program. Good talk. See you out there. THE PILLAR Divisional Winner for Best Grotto Newsletter 2013 & 2014

VoL. III, Issue 4 APRIL 2015

The Pillar is the official publication of Ubar Grotto, MOVPER, located in Elizabethtown, PA. Constituted July 23, 2011. Stated Meetings held on the 4th Sunday of each month, beginning at 6 PM,

except July, August, and December.

I'm excited to once again welcome Ubar Grotto's 11 new prophets brought into the Realm at our March meeting. Af-ter our first ceremonial of 2015, I'm pleased to announce that we're over half way toward our membership goal.

Now onto another goal we have this year... 100% participa-tion in the Enchanted Lantern Program! An Enchanted Lantern represents a contribution of $50 to the Humanitari-an Foundation, our official charity. Ubar takes pride in be-ing a large contributor to this charitable cause and, of course, in beating Azim's number of Enchanted Lanterns purchased over the year.

Make me run 50 miles in one day in order to raise aware-ness for our charity... I dare you.

I'm looking forward to seeing you all at our stated meeting and reaching our goal of 100% participation in the En-chanted Lantern Program.

Good talk. See you out there.

Women and Whiskey

By Pro. Mark Mattern, Master of Ceremonies

Sure, whiskey might be one of the most masculine choices at the bar, but it doesn’t mean it’s out of bounds for ladies. In fact, generally speaking, I find women with a taste for whiskey to be the most desirable (insert obligatory apology to wife here.)

Here are two additional reasons to date the woman who loves whiskey (5 part series)

8. She doesn’t half-ass things. If her drinking habits are any reflection on the rest of her habits, she doesn’t like to half-ass things. She views the weekend as her time to let her hair down, and although sometimes that will result in one of her homegirls holding her hair up, at least she didn’t spend her night sulking at the bar looking for an excuse to go home.

7. She’s provocative. There are certain drinks that are just… not hot. Aside from going to the bar and ordering a selt-zer, nothing is less sexy than watching a girl stress her drink or-der only to succumb to ordering something boring, like white wine, at a dive bar. There’s just something hot about watching a chick throw back shots of whiskey with a purpose.

It’s a joke, boy! Pat & Bill had been Lodge Brothers for many years. They had promised each other that the first to go to the Grand Lodge above would return to tell the other whether there really were Lodges in Heaven and what they were like. By and by, it came to pass that Bill went first. One day shortly after, Pat was working in his garden when he heard a whispered voice, " Pssst Pat!" He looked around but saw noth-ing. A few moments later he heard, now quite clearly " Pat! Its me, Bill!" "Bill" Pat exclaimed, " are you in Heaven?" “Indeed I am" said Bill. Pat paused for a while to get over the shock and then said "Well, Bill, are there Lodges up there in Heaven?" "There certainly are, Pat. There are Lodges all over and they are quite magnificent, equal or better to Great Queen Street. The meetings are well attended, the ritual is word perfect, the festive board fan-tastic and the spirit of Masonic Fellowship is all pervasive." "My goodness, Bill," said Pat, "It certainly sounds very impressive but for all that you seem rather sad. Tell me old friend, what is the mat-ter." "Well, Pat, you are right. I have some good news and some bad." "OK, so what's the good news?" "The good news is that we are doing a 3rd this coming Wednesday" "Great" said Pat. "What′s the bad news then?" "You′re the Senior Deacon!”

new editor

This will be Pro. Anthony’s last issue as Edi-tor of The Pillar. Starting with the May issue, Pro. Chad McComsey will be taking over as editor. It’s been a great couple of years, but

it’s time to share the wealth and let some oth-er folks do the work. I hope you’ll treat Chad with the same disdain that you’ve come to

treat me. Welcome, Chad!

Ubar Grotto Long Rifle Unit The Prophets were only worried about the size of the rifle, not the kickback. Two Prophets joined.

One Prophet remained to tell the tale.
