Lead Wellness-focusedInnovate Evidence-basedVision Lifelong learners, andExecute Lights for the world, and to be making a local-to-global impact

Our Impact – Across the State, Nationand Globe

Among our core goals are effective promotion of health and wellness as well as transformation of health care across culturally diverse individuals, groups and communities.

StatewideOhio State’s Interprofessional Education & Practice Collaborative (iPEP) educates students across multiple disciplines to function as a cohesive health care team in order to deliver the highest quality patient care. Pre-clinical education begins in the College of Nursing’s Technology Learning Complex, while clinical education occurs at Ohio State Total Health and Wellness, a nurse practitioner-led interprofessional collaborative practice at nearby University Hospital East. A second similar practice is located at Community Health and Wellness Partners of Logan County.

Additionally, the college has spearheaded multiple local and regional outreach initiatives in an effort to improve health and wellness outcomes in the community. Projects such as Wellness on Wheels, Family Wellness Expos and Making a Difference: Health and Wellness One Street at a Time, have provided community members with health screenings, education and referrals.

NationwideThe National Consortium for Building Healthy Academic Communities (NCBHAC) was founded in order to improve health and wellness outcomes in academic communities. Over 300 participants from more than 90 institutions attended the inaugural BHAC National Summit in 2013. Since then, more than 30 academic institutions from across the country have joined this effort to build a healthier nation, and a second summit is set for April 2015. Dr. Bernadette Melnyk founded the consortium and has been elected as its first president.

The National Interprofessional Education and Practice Consortium to Advance Million Hearts was founded by the College of Nursing to support Million Hearts®, a national initiative of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) to prevent one million heart attacks and strokes by 2017. The consortium, which consists of more than 100 universities and organizations, serves to educate nursing and other health sciences students, health care providers and community members on how to improve population health. More than 30,000 people have been educated and screened as a result of the consortium’s work. Ohio State was the first university-wide partner with Million Hearts in this historic effort.

Students travel to various urban and rural locations to meet with and learn from local health care providers. Students also perform basic health screenings and present posters on prevalent health issues in the country.China: The college’s Center for Transdisciplinary Evidence-based Practice (CTEP) is working to establish an evidence-based practice center in Shanghai.
