"My Site" and "User Profile" are two corner stone's of Personalization in MOSS 2007

The whole theme is to let users have their own space/site such that they can, publish and maintain information, which can be share with other users.

Main idea behind personalization is to, let users have a personal page or some similar space, on the portal, where they can share information that they want to, and other colleagues and even outsiders can access it.

Share Point Server 2007 provides personalization in the form of My Site, and user details are store in what is called User Profiles.

My Site : Site for Every User Share.This is dedicated to every individual user in

moss. Where they can share their information with their colleagues in the form of blogs etc.

My Site concept is used in intranet portals rather than internet portals, because on internet portals we allow the anonymous access to user, so there is need over here to access users to create their my site.

User Profile.The user profile acts like a store, it contains

Name, Email, Mobile Number etc.The information can be retrieved from Active

Directory , in fact LDAP is supported , or , you can chose from any arbitrary source as long as , it can be accessible via Business Data Catalog (DBC).

You can create alerts for other users! Just navigate to a list or document library, and from the “Actions” menu choose the “Alert Me” item.

You can specify multiple user names, or email addresses in alerts.

Following Step need to perform… Create the SSO service account.

This is the account that the service will run under.

Create the SSO groups.These groups are used to control who has

the ability to administer SSO (export the master key) and who has the ability to manage it (add/remove application definitions.)

Configure the SSO Service.Set SSO to start and get it to use the service

account.

Configure SQL Server.Authorize the SSO service account to SQL

server.

Manage SSO.Setup SSO in MOSS including the groups

and the database.

Manage the encryption key.Create the encryption key that will be used

for protecting the username and password information on the system.

Manage settings for enterprise application definitions.Define what initial applications SSO will be

setup to manage passwords for.

Make sure that user should be logged in with the account on which we are configuring SSO service account.

The respective user should be added in the form administrator group of SharePoint.

Managed PropertiesIt is mapped by administrator from crawled

to managed property to make a part of user search experience.

Managed properties needs a full crawl for corrects search results to appear.
