children and men folk is their responsibility.And when they fall ill, other women in thefamily or village are likely to look after them.One of the major problems in the area ofprimary health is ensuring that medical

As an example a brief on the Drinkingwater initiative is presented. In mostof the adopted villages, due to highlevels of pollution in the water
source, the Rural water supplyscheme is unable to provide safedrinking water. To mitigate theproblem, the Foundation has set upa Drinking Water Project SWEET(Safe Water for Every one usingEffective Technology). The processconsists of

coagulation, chlorinedosing, pressure sandfilter, activated carbonfilter, micron filters, UVradiation and Ozonation.The water is supplied in 12liter food grade
polyethylene cans atRs1.50 per can at theplant (Rs.12.50 paisa perliter). The capital cost ofbuilding and plant isshared between theCommunity (2/3rds) and
Foundation (1/3rd). ThePanchayat provides landfor the building and theraw water. As on datethere are 61 plantsproviding access to safedrinking water for 1
million people. The modelhas been replicated in 20other villa es.
