TEMPERATURE

Note the correct spelling of TEMPERature NOT TEMPRETURE!!

We measure temperature in degrees Celsius (° C ) but

it can also be measured in degrees Fahrenheit (°F )

Water freezes at 0°C and boils at 100 °C

The highest temp for the day is max (maximum) temp

The lowest temp for the day is the min (minimum) temp

Temperatures below 0°C have a – sign in front of them

1 degree below 0°C is -1°C

To find an average temp you add the temps that you have been

given and ÷ by the number of temps you added together

Example: 18°C + 20°C + 10°C = 48°C ÷ 3 (because there were 3 temps). The

average temp is 16°C.

ACTIVITIES

Watch the TEMP VIDEOS:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J2ux8dkaUD0&t=40s and

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N6yyUljYrjs

Complete the 2 worksheets Temperature 1 and 2 by studying

the thermometers and writing down the missing temperatures

If the minus sign (-) is left off a cold temp it will be marked

wrong and also if the label (°C) is left off

Lesson 27: Idioms and Proverbs

Idioms

- An idiom is a group of words that when put together, has a figurative (not literal) meaning. -

- Idioms are common expressions that are used every day.

Proverbs

- A proverb is a short, memorable saying.

- It expresses a truth or a belief and gives advice or a warning.

Proverb Meaning

Too much bed makes a dull

head.

If you sleep too much, you will not be able to think clearly

Absence makes the heart

grow fonder.

When you are away from someone, you miss them and love

them more.

Time and tide will wait for

no man.

Delaying something will not prevent it from happening.

All work and no play make

Jack a dull boy.

Everyone needs time to relax. It’s not good to work all the

time.

Variety is the spice of life. Doing a lot of different things makes life more interesting.

Take note:

- An idiom is different to a proverb in that it does not offer any advice or a warning.

- Often an idiom does not make sense on its own, without seeing the rest of the text.

Idiom Meaning

In the bag Something that is confirmed.

On the wrong foot To start a relationship off badly.

Keep your chin up Stay positive in a difficult situation.

Let sleeping dogs lie Avoid bringing up an argument or problem again.

Pass the buck Avoid responsibility or give it to someone else.
