Preparing Your Computer for Wall-Mounting

This document provides instructions for preparing the computer for wall-mounting. The VESA adapter assemblyincluded in the box is not a wall-mounting device; it interfaces with a wall-mounting device (sold separately).

Included in the Box Verify that, in addition to these instructions, the following are included in the box:

VESA bracket base with four 8-mm (0.3-inch) screws

VESA top bracket with four 8-mm (0.3-inch) screws

Two leg inserts with two 8-mm (0.3-inch) screws, which can fill in the spaces that are left when the computer legsare removed (optional)

What You NeedTorx screwdriver or flathead screwdriver (magnetic-tipped recommended)

Soft, clean surface (such as a clean, large towel) to cushion the computer when you place it facedown

Another person (it might require two people to lift and move the computer)

Antistatic wrist strap and a conductive foam pad to stand on while working on the computer (recommended)

Wall-mounting device (sold separately) with the following specifications:VESA standard 200mm (7.9 inches) x 100mm (3.9 inches) hole pattern (holes marked “ A”)

Designed for flat-panel displays ranging in size from 584mm (23 inches) to 786mm (30.9 inches) diagonal,and weighing up to 22.7 kg (50 lb)

Safety InformationThis product has not been evaluated for connection to an “IT” power system (an AC distribution system with no directconnection to the earth, according to IEC 60950).

WARNING: Please read “Additional Safety Information” in the Limited Warranty and Support Guidebefore installing and connecting your system to the electrical power system.

WARNING: Avoid touching sharp edges inside the computer.

WARNING: Take care when lifting or moving your computer. The computer is heavy. When lifting, takeproper precautions.

WARNING: Always disconnect the HP TouchSmart PC from the power source before removing thememory cover or the back cover. Failure to do so before you open the HP TouchSmart PC or perform anyprocedures can result in personal injury or equipment damage.

Before Opening the ComputerTo avoid injury and equipment damage when opening the HP TouchSmart PC, always complete the following steps inorder:

1 Remove any media and external devices (such as any CD, DVD, memory cards, USB devices, or external harddisk drives) from the HP TouchSmart PC.

2 Tap the Windows Start button® , and then tap Shut Down .

3 After the system has completely shut down, disconnect the power adapter ( A ) from the back of theHP TouchSmart PC.

4 Remove the connector cover by inserting your finger under the gap on the bottom-left side of the cover (B) toopen it slightly, and then lift the cover off.

CAUTION: Static electricity can damage the electronic components of the HP TouchSmart PC or optionalequipment. Ensure that you are discharged of static electricity by briefly touching a grounded metalobject.

WARNING: To reduce the risk of personal injury from electrical shock or hot surfaces, disconnect thepower cord from the wall outlet, and allow the internal system components to cool beforetouching them.

5 Disconnect all other attached cables from the back of the HP TouchSmart PC.

Removing the StandAfter completing the preceding steps, and before mounting the VESA adapter assembly to the back of the computer,

remove the computer stand.1 Place the computer facedown on a soft, flat surface. Hewlett-Packard recommends that you set down a blanket,

towel, or other soft cloth to protect the touch screen surface from scratches or other damage.2 Lift the cover of the computer stand to an upright position.

3 Remove the screw that secures the access cover to the back of the computer.

4 Slide the access cover away from the computer, releasing the tabs.

5 Slide the access cover out toward you to remove it, and then set it aside.

6 Using a Torx screwdriver (magnetic-tipped recommended), remove the four screws from the computer stand.

7 Lift off the computer stand and set it aside.

Installing the VESA Adapter Assembly 1 Attach the VESA bracket base to the computer rear shield, aligning the tabs ( A , B) to the holes in the shield so

there is no gap between the parts. Insert the four 8-mm (0.3-inch) screws provided in the same four holes thathad attached the computer stand.

2 Reattach the access cover by sliding the cover slots into the VESA base and replacing the access cover screw.

3 Align the two tabs ( A , B) in the VESA top bracket with the holes (C, D) in the VESA bracket base. Secure theVESA top bracket to the VESA bracket base using the four 8-mm (0.3-inch) screws provided.

The computer now has the VESA adapter configuration required for attaching to wall-mounting hardware (soldseparately). If you wish to remove the computer legs prior to wall-mounting the computer, see“Removing the Legs(Optional)” on page 8.

Follow the wall-mounting hardware manufacturer’s instructions on how to wall-mount the computer. For wall-mountinhardware specifications, see “What You Need” on page 2 .

Computer OrientationYour HP TouchSmart PC is designed to be operated in a landscape orientation ( A ). When wall-mounted, the PCshould remain with the display in landscape orientation, not portrait (B), or laid horizontal (C).

Removing the Legs (Optional)After completing the preceding procedures, you can remove the computer legs and install the cosmetic leg inserts.This procedure is not required for preparing the computer for wall-mounting.

1 Remove the screws from the computer legs.

CAUTION: Placing your PC in portrait orientation (B) or horizontal orientation (C) may result in damageto the hardware components.

2 Remove the legs from the computer.

3 Install the leg inserts, covering the holes that were left when the legs were removed. Insert the two8-mm (0.3-inch) screws provided.

The computer is now ready to be wall-mounted. Follow the wall-mounting hardware manufacturer’s instructions onhow to wall-mount the computer.
