The second home to the child is?

An essay is a written composition on a specif-ic topic. The writer of an essay explains a topicso that the reader can understand the topic ina better way and refresh his/her knowledge. Anessay can be one of many types: Narrative,Descriptive, Reflexive, Argumentative,Imaginative etc. Some essays are a mix of allor some of the above types. Whatever maybethe type of essay, writer’s view point (reflection)is included. There is large scope to includemany literary devices in essays. An essay canbe of any length but a student of class 10 has

to write an essay of 200 to 250 words. Youhave to give the title based on (the clues givenin) the question. Don’t use cursive script in‘Heading’. Don’t underline the headings.Let us study an essay:

Punishments in SchoolsSchool is the second home to the child. A

school going child expects a cordial treatmentfrom teachers and other staff of the school.Only a few schools are meeting the expecta-tions of the pupil.

Many teachers think like they cannot bringdiscipline among the students if they do notpunish them.

Punishment is the magic wand of theteacher. 'Master ‘X’ is an idiot. He never doeshis homework. Many times I informed to hisparents and to our principal. Neither of themtake any action. So I took a stern actionagainst him. I canned him ten times. Hesobbed as if he were dying. He begged me notto beat him. But I did not show any mercy. Hemight have understood my other shade'. Theteacher ‘Strict’ narrated the incident to his col-leagues in the staff room. The other teachersclapped and applauded the teacher ‘Strict’.

Taking this as an inspiration ‘Ms. Dedicated’slapped, pinched and whipped a handful of stu-dents for not bringing the books to class. ‘Mr.Excited’, the enthusiastic young dynamicteacher made class 10 girl students do 50 situps for not answering his ‘in-depth’ physicsquestions. ‘Mr Avadhani’ the satirical teachershowed his expertise in using hard-core wordson innocent and ignorant students. These‘Powerful’ teachers are very proud of their strict-ness and dedication. And they unanimouslydeclare the parents of those students are use-less persons.

One of the sensible teachers told the socalled sincere teachers to go through the childpsychology and ways teaching and learning. They tagged him ‘a student friendly teacher’and ‘Viswa Guru’.

One of the parents filed a complaint and thepolice come to the ‘Right Choice’ school andmade an investigation. They were shocked tohear that most of the teachers in the school areuntrained and no knowledge about child psy-chology and pedagogy. The honourable princi-pal herself was unqualified for the position. Notless than 50 students were badly injured andtwo students lost their precious life.

The school’s recognition was cancelled andthe teachers were punished and the principalwas imprisoned.

A speech script is a written document of adelivered or to be delivered speech. It isalways good to prepare a script beforedelivering a speech. Though there isn’t anyhard and fast rule for the length of a speechscript, it is better to maintain brevity.Although we need not follow grammar rulesstrictly in sentence construction, we shouldbe reasonably good in framing them. Do notuse too long or too complex sentences. Useoccasional, short or punchy sentences tovary the pace. Start the speech script with asuitable salutation and catchy introduction.Maintain rhythm in your sentences. Repeatsome words or phrases or sentences toreinforce your point of view. Choose your lan-guage cater to the needs of your audience.

Study the following speech scriptGood Morning Friends! This is Raju. Happy to see you all here. I

stand before you to speak my mind out on‘Goal Setting’. The only difference, I haveobserved, between achievers and failures is‘Having a Goal’ and ‘Not having a Goal’.Those who have goal are achieving whatthey want. Those who don’t have any goalare achieving ‘Nothing’.

What is a Goal? A Goal is the object of aperson’s ambition/effort. Setting it means fix-ing it. So, Goal Setting is Deciding What to doand How to do? to fulfil your ambition. Whathappens to a person if no goal is set? It is likesending a letter to some destination withoutwriting the receiver’s address. Can a letterreach without the address? No, it can’t! sameis the case of a person’s ambition without agoal.

How to set a Goal? You should identifyyour interests, hobbies, talents, and capabili-ties first. Then chalk out the possibilities toput in your efforts. When you have a goodopportunity to reach your target, then fix it asyour goal.

A goal should be as much as possible sta-tic. Once you set a goal, you must not changeit. Always dream about your goal. Never giveit up for any reason. Face the hurdles boldlywhichever come on the way of reaching yourgoal. The most striking trite of winners is abid-ing by their goal. So, friends, set a goal andget a stunning success. All the best. Bye.
