Day 8 Saturday 7 July 2018 Board MS MaasdamMorning: Free time. One last chance to catch some music at the Jazz Festival. Afternoon: Board MS Maasdam, for our 8-day cruise down the St Lawrence River, to Boston. A huge body of water, the St Lawrence River encompasses several lakes and three archipelagos. Evening: Enjoy fine dining in the ship’s elegant two-tier Rotterdam Dining Room. (B,D [on the ship])

Day 9 Sunday 8 July 2018 Quebec City, CanadaMorning: Enjoy a sightseeing tour of Quebec City, which sits on the Saint Lawrence River in Canada’s mostly French-speaking Quebec province. Founded in 1608, Quebec City is one of the oldest cities in North America, featuring narrow streets, walled fortifications, and centuries-old buildings. In Old Quebec City, visit Place Royale, a cobble-stoned square surrounded by historic buildings, including the petite church Notre-Dame des Victoires (1688). Also see La Citadelle (a military fort) and Chateau Frontenac (an iconic hotel – the city’s most impressive landmark – built in 1894).

Day 10 Monday 9 July 2018 Saint Lawrence River Cruising, CanadaA day of cruising. As we sail from Quebec, and into the Atlantic Ocean, watch for whales, porpoises, dolphins, & countless bird species. Morning: enjoy an exclusive concert performance by Jules Boult. Afternoon: Enjoy a fun-filled Music Trivia competition. Excellent prizes for the winning teams. Evening: Enjoy the ship’s fabulous Broadway-style entertainment.

Day 11 Tuesday 10 July 2018 Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, CanadaArrive in Charlottetown, the capital of Canada’s Prince Edward Island. Prince Edward Island is the setting for the 1908 novel Anne of Green Gables, and the home of the author. We visit Anne of Green Gables Museum, at Silver Bush. Silver Bush is the spacious house where the author, Lucy Maud Montgomery, visited relatives and where she was married in 1911. The rest of the day is free for you to explore charming Charlottetown. Evening: Back on the ship, enjoy dinner & more ship-board entertainment.

Day 12 Wednesday 11 July 2018 Sydney Cape Breton Island, CanadaThis morning we cruise past the Highlands of Nova Scotia, as we sail to the port of Sydney, Cape Breton Island. On arrival see a unique landmark - The Big Fiddle – a fiddle and bow, 60 feet high, paying tribute to the distinctive Cape Breton Celtic style of fiddle playing. Enjoy a walking tour of the Colonial Town of Old Sydney, founded by Loyalists fleeing the American Revolution.

Day 13 Thursday 12 July 2018 Halifax, Nova Scotia, CanadaMorning: Arrive in Halifax, the capital of the Canadian province of Nova Scotia. Enjoy a guided tour of the town. See many historic sites & landmarks. Visit the 19th-century Halifax Citadel, a star-shaped fort overlooking the town. Afternoon: Enjoy the Halifax Jazz Festival, which will be in full swing (optional). Past acts, at the festival, include the Preservation Hall Jazz Band and Jr. John & The Nite Trippers.

Day 14 Friday 13 July 2018 Bar Harbor, Maine, USAToday we visit the American town of Bar Harbor, Maine. Morning: Sightseeing tour of Bar Harbor and the mountains & cliffs of neighbouring Acadia National Park. Visit the summit of Cadillac Mountain, which has stunning ocean & mountain views. Afternoon: Free time.

Drive through 405 hectare Stanley Park. See exceptional collection of totem poles at Lions Gate Bridge. Visit historic Gastown (site of Vancouver’s original settlement), Chinatown, and the Vancouver Lookout. Evening: Attend the Vancouver International Jazz Festival, with Jules, for some outstanding Canadian blues and jazz music. Overnight: Holiday Inn Vancouver – Centre.

Day 2 Sunday 1 July 2018 VancouverIt’s Canada Day (a celebration of the uniting of 3 colonies into a single country called Canada). There will be events throughout the city to celebrate Canada Day, including parades and fireworks. Today we will attend the Vancouver International Jazz Festival in Yaletown and Granville Island arts precinct. Enjoy a line-up of the world’s best blues, jazz, funk, Latin, fusion, and world music artists. Evening: Enjoy Commencement of Tour dinner in the downtown district, where Jules will play a few songs from his latest album. (B, D).

Day 3 Monday 2 July 2018 Toronto, CanadaFly to Toronto, Canada’s largest city, located on the shores of Lake Ontario. Evening: Free time, to explore this cosmopolitan city. Overnight: Holiday Inn Toronto Downtown Centre. (B)

Day 4 Tuesday 3 July 2018 TorontoEnjoy a guided tour of Toronto, with a visit to Niagara Falls, where we go on a cruise to the base of the falls, to view the mighty cascades that are one of the world’s great natural wonders. Also see Toronto’s main landmarks, including the sky-high CN Tower, and the Ontario Parliament buildings. Visit beautiful Queen’s Park and the Eaton Centre (huge array of shops in a soaring, historic mall with a glass ceiling). Evening: Enjoy dinner & performance by Jules at downtown jazz venue, N’Awlins, famous for its Cajun-Creole food & live music. (B, D)

Day 5 Wednesday 4 July 2018 Montreal, CanadaMorning: Travel to Montreal, which is a fascinating blend of old and new. The French-English mix also adds character. On arrival settle into our hotel before heading out to the famous Montreal Jazz Festival. Hear some of the world’s most prominent musicians perform a variety of genres. Bob Dylan, Charlie Musselwhite, Buddy Guy and King Crimson have all played at the festival, in the past. Overnight: Hotel Travelodge Montreal Centre. (B)

Day 6 Thursday 5 July 2018 MontrealMorning: Enjoy a guided walking tour of Old Montreal. Discover the history, architecture and culture of the oldest part of Montreal, dating back to New France. See famous sites such as Notre-Dame Basilica, Place Jacques-Cartier, & Bonsecours Market. Afternoon: Grab your festival program, camera and dancing shoes as we head out for our second day at the Montreal Jazz Festival. Evening: Enjoy a group dinner and another special performance by Jules, in a venue in downtown Montreal. (B, D)

Day 7 Friday 6 July 2018 MontrealToday is our third day of the Montreal Jazz Festival. A wonderful opportunity to immerse yourself in the smooth rhythms & upbeat musical offerings of the festival. You may wish to spend some of your time wandering through the downtown area, admiring the museums, art galleries, universities & restaurants of this glamorous old French city. (B)

The Canadian Blues and Jazz Experience on the MS Maasdam will be an incredible opportunity to see the best of Canada including a luxury cruise from Montreal to Boston, with the tour finishing in New York.

Travel with fellow blues & jazz enthusiasts and enjoy a feast of fantastic music including three days at the Montreal Jazz/Blues Festival. The cruise is hosted by blues musician Jules Boult and includes sightseeing tours in all of the ports of call.

Banff and RockiesExtension Tour

Day 15 Saturday 14 July 2018 Boston & Danbury, USAMorning: Arrive in Boston, Massachusetts. Boston, founded in 1630, was the site of several key events in the American Revolution (1765-1783), including the Boston Tea Party. After disembarking we will tour the city with a local guide. See Paul Revere’s House and Kings Chapel. Also visit Faneuil Hall (marketplace & meeting hall since 1743) and the Old State House (seat of colonial government from 1713). Afternoon: Travel to Danbury, Connecticut, for overnight stay only a short distance from New York. Overnight: Courtyard By Danbury Hotel.

Day 16 Sunday 15 July 2018 New York, USAMorning: Travel to New York. On arrival, enjoy sightseeing tour of New York, with local guide. Visit the Midtown area, Central Park, Harlem, Wall Street financial district, & 9/11 Memorial. Afternoon: Free time. You may wish to visit the Empire State Building, for spectacular views of New York (optional), or you may like to go shopping. The ‘Big Apple’ has every kind of shopping experience you could imagine. Evening: Attend a Broadway musical, theatre production, or blues club of your choice (optional). Overnight: Ameritania Hotel, New York. (B)

Day 1 Tuesday 17 July 2018 Fly to CalgaryMorning: Free time in New York. Afternoon: Transfer to airport. Fly to Calgary, Canada (pop: approx. 1¼ million). These days Calgary is an important centre for Canada’s oil & gas industry. The city is also steeped in the western culture that earned it the nickname “Cowtown”, and is famous for its annual Calgary Stampede festival. Evening: Free time. Overnight: Aloft Calgary University Hotel (B)

Day 2 Wednesday 18 July 2018 CalgaryMorning: Sightseeing coach tour of Calgary, with local guide. Afternoon: Free time. Evening: Enjoy jazz or blues music, and Cajun/Creole food, at top Calgary music venue, The Blues Can. (B, D)

Day 3 Thursday 19 July 2018 BanffMorning: Travel by coach to the town of Banff, and Banff National Park, one of the most beautiful & spectacular spots in Canada. On arrival ride the Banff Gondola over the shoulder of Sulphur Mountain and enjoy incredible views of the Canadian Rockies. Afternoon: check into our hotel. Free time for you to explore the town. Evening: Head to Wild Bill’s, or Rose and Crown, for some live blues music. Overnight: Banff Park Lodge. (B)

Day 4 Friday 20 July 2018 BanffMorning: Travel to the world famous Lake Louise, in Banff National Park. Enjoy the views over this breathtaking lake. We then travel on the Icefields Parkway, through the Eastern Main Ranges, the highest, most rugged, and most scenic part of the Rockies. Also, ride by snowcoach on the million-year-old Athabasca Glacier (weather permitting). Late afternoon: Gather for afternoon drinks, including informal performance by Jules Boult. (B)

Day 17 Monday 16 July 2018 New YorkMorning: Enjoy a cruise on New York Harbor, aboard the famous Staten Island Ferry. See the Statue of Liberty. Then join Jules Boult for a walk on the Brooklyn Bridge (great views of the N.Y. skyline from the bridge). Afternoon: Free time. Evening: Visit Manhattan’s Greenwich Village area. In the 50s, 60s and 70s musicians such as Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, Peter, Paul & Mary, Joan Baez, and Simon & Garfunkel used to perform in ‘the Village’. Today Greenwich Village still has lots of excellent live music venues. We will have our End-of-Tour Dinner in the ‘Village’ before taking in some live music in the village’s legendary venues, e.g., Terra Blues, the Village Vanguard, and Smalls Jazz Club. (B, D)

Day 18 Tuesday 17 July 2018 New YorkMorning: Free time for shopping and packing. Mid-afternoon: Transfer to airport. Commence return trip to Australia. (B)

Day 5 Saturday 21 July 2018 BanffMorning: There is time for optional sightseeing by helicopter, for a bird’s-eye view of the Canadian Rockies. Then, immerse yourself in the natural wonders of Banff during a sightseeing excursion around Banff, including the classic viewpoint of Surprise Corner, spectacular Bow Falls, and the Hoodoo Rock formations. Afternoon: Free time. Evening: Enjoy an end of tour dinner, including informal entertainment by Jules Boult. (B, D)

Day 6 Sunday 22 July 2018 Rocky Mountaineer, Banff to KamloopsMorning: Board the luxury Rocky Mountaineer train, for our journey through the Rockies to Vancouver. Enjoy stunning scenery on our two day journey. Retrace the steps of 19th century explorers as we travel through the Continental Divide, the legendary Spiral Tunnels, and pass by the spot where the last spike on the Canadian Pacific Railway was driven. In Kamloops we will transfer to our hotel. (B,L)

Day 7 Monday 23 July 2018 Rocky Mountaineer, Kamloops to VancouverToday we continue our train journey through the Rocky Mountains. Enjoy dramatic changes in scenery, from the desert-like environment of some parts of the interior, through winding river canyons and pristine forests, to the Coast and Cascade Mountains and the lush green fields of the Fraser River Valley. Highlights include the steep slopes and rock sheds along the Thompson River and the rushing waters of Hell’s Gate in the Fraser Canyon. Your rail journey ends on arrival in Vancouver this evening, where you will be transferred to the airport for your flight back to Australia. (B, L)

MS Maasdam is operated by Holland America Cruises and the fly/cruise arrangements are subject to the terms and conditions and general information detailed in the 2018 brochure. All passengers must complete the online check-in on the Holland America Cruises website and Travelrite International booking form.DEPOSIT AND PAYMENT: A deposit of $900 per passenger should be sent with a completed Travelrite International booking form that lists your requested cabin category. As soon as the booking is confirmed, (usually within 24 hours), a cruise confirmation advice will be posted to the client. The confirmation advice will contain all details.
