Llama Halters £14.40 each

#022 S #023 M #024 L

H a lt e r C o lo r sblack, red, purple, blue, green, white, brown or rainbow (combination of purple, blue, green, and red)

Alpaca halters also available in fawn.

Why choose the Zephyr Halter over others?

The Zephyr Halter is hand-stitched in the U.S. by Mennonite harness makers whose commitment to quality and craftsmanship is reflected in every halter. This timeless standard of construction and materials combined with the adjustable design makes the Zephyr Halter the most versatile and lasting halter available.

For more than 20 years, the Zephyr Halter has always fulfilled the three essential criteria of a quality halter: safety, comfort and effectiveness. If your camelids could talk, they’d ask you to choose the Zephyr Halter, too!

Halters Buying a halter that fits properly is one of the most important things you can do for the safety and comfort of your camelid. Halter fit profoundly affects your camelid’s attitude and performance. For safe halter fit, the nose band must rest on bone and stay there even under adverse conditions, i.e. when your llama/alpaca bucks on the lead, resists being tied, bolts or becomes tangled in a stake line.

A halter should be comfortable and should not interfere with your camelid’s ability to yawn, eat or ruminate. A halter should also serve as an effective tool of communication particularly if your animal is just learning to lead, trailer or show.

The Zephyr Halter has the maximum amount of adjustability in both the nose band and the crown piece. It is proportioned so that it will stay well up on the nose bone for your animal’s safety when properly fitted. The Zephyr Halter is designed with side rings to use for leading. Signals given in this location often prevent or fix negative leading behaviors. Get one of each size and you can properly fit every animal on your property.

NEW SIZING!Based on customer requests for a wider range of fit, we have changed from a two-size system to a three-size system. This new sizing improves the utility and versatility of the Zephyr Halter. With the three-size system the Zephyr Halter will fit all llamas or alpacas. The following is a size guide for the new system:

s M a l l Fits from 3- 6 months or smaller, delicate heads

M e D I U M Fits large weanlings, yearlings, small adults

l a r G e Fits adult of all sizes expanded to fit larger animals.

A huge amount of variability exists between animals of the same species and age, so sizing guidelines are approximate, and there is a deliberate overlap between the sizes.

If you own one of each size halter of the appropriate species, you can fit any alpaca or llama safely and comfortably.

This-End-Up HalterIf you are just learning to halter llamas or alpacas, try this black halter with a blue upper noseband to show you where to grasp the halter. This-End-Up Halter helps you orient the halter right every time. It also looks snappy! Specifiy This-End-Up when ordering.

Second Chance HalterTypically llamas and alpacas are haltered from the left. If you have an animal that is difficult to halter, he or she may have developed responses to being caught and haltered from

the left side. This halter buckles on the llama/alpaca’s right side and allows you to have a second chance to correct previously learned escape and evasion behaviors. It often helps to retrain these animals from the right using Camelidynamics. Specify Second Chance when ordering.

H o w t o F I t t H e 2 - way a D j U s ta b l e Z e p H y r H a lt e rFollowing these three steps each time will ensure your Zephyr Halter is safe, comfortable and effective. Haltering is discussed on the Guild Forum and detailed in the Library. Click here to view the Guild Forum. You can also learn more about haltering and halter fit in the The Camelid Companion book and in most Camelidynamics videos.

1. Open the noseband completely. Always open the noseband. It is NOT a good idea to pre-fit halters or assign a halter to a particular animal. Pre-fitting the halter makes it more likely to get stuck on the nose before sliding far enough up on the nose bone.

2. Put the halter on and snug up the crown piece. Make sure that the crown piece is tight enough that if you pull forward on the nose band, it will not slip off the boney part of the nose. This is going to be very snug (almost tight) for animals wearing the small halter and can be slightly looser for animals wearing the medium or large halter.

3. Snug up the noseband until the noseband just contacts the animal. The noseband should not inhibit the animal’s ability to chew. You should be able to slide a finger inside the noseband for small and medium halters and two fingers for animals wearing large halters.

Zephyr Training Lead #028 £15.20This is our original, signature lead. The 9-foot Zephyr Training Lead features 21 inches of high quality nylon rope spliced to 88 inches of flat, soft, nylon lead. The rope end allows you to use the lead for a variety of tasks as well as making the lead lighter and less visually obvious when attached to the side nose band ring on the halter. A lightweight but strong brass snap is hand-spliced into the rope, making a smooth, very lightweight lead.

Zephyr Ultimate Lead #029 £20

Whether you are training weanlings, staking your camelid out or simply going for a stroll and want to offer your buddy a bit more freedom to wander, you will want a Zephyr Ultimate Lead. This is actually two leads in one. You can use the regular lead (9 feet) or attach the extender with the fastex buckle and have a 16-foot lead. This longer lead allows you to be further away from your llama/alpaca reducing the chances

of a blow-up and—if it does happen—you will have more time to react. This Ultimate Lead is particularly useful for rehabilitating alpacas or llamas who have learned to cush instead of follow on the lead. No more wrenched shoulders. The Ultimate Lead all but eliminates bucking and rearing.

Leads All Zephyr Leads are hand-stitched and available in the following colors: black, red, purple, blue, green, white., brown. (Alternate lengths and colors available by special order.)

Zephyr Lead #026 £12.80This is the same long-lasting quality of our original lead (see the Zephyr Training Lead) made of the strong one-inch nylon but without the rope end. It has a brass snap and is just shy of 8 feet long. Perfect working or llama show lead.

Zephyr Show Lead #027 £12.80Refine your look in the show ring. This black lightweight lead is made with a soft tubular nylon and the same quality snap found on our other leads. The narrow 5/8” nylon is the same width as the Zephyr Halter. Standard length for black Show Lead: 7.5 feet. (Show Lead available in all other colors made with 1” nylon and 8-feet long.)

Gear U p

Training Rope #025 £12.80This is a wonderful tool for catching your camelids and—once caught—a key to keeping contact with your animal while preparing for haltering and other handling.

The rope is made of nylon marine rope with a solid brass hook hand spliced on one end, a brass ring attached to the rope and slider ring to keep the brass ring where you put it. In combination with the Clip Wand, the Training Rope is a safe, non-threatening way to catch up your animal. The Wand Catch Method is explained in detail in The Camelid Companion. Color: white.

TTEAM Wands #040 £21.60 #041 £23.20 Clip Wand (see more below)

These are invaluable tools for herding and sorting your animals. The wand allows you to touch and guide your camelid from outside his flight zone. By using the wand you won’t crowd your animals and make them nervous. Ideal for leading, teaching your llama to wear a pack and much more

They are especially useful for fearful animals. The fiberglass wand is 4’ long and white in color for greater visibility. The wand’s balance and stiffness set it apart from other options and make it much more effective for training. The wand features a flat button on the end rather than a handle, excellent for scooping up dropped lead ropes.

Two wands are used together for herding and sorting. We suggest one regular wand and one with the clip attachment (see Clip Wand below).

TTEAM Clip Wand#041 £23.20This attachment allows you to clip the catch rope to the wand for effortless catching. Small people with big llamas can level the playing field as no llama is too tall for this catching arrangement. Simply clip the catch rope to the wand and bring the catch rope up over the animal’s head, easily catching your animal in the loop as you bring the rope around the neck. You may find that catching with the combination of the rope and the wand eliminates many behavioral problems associated with other methods of catching.

Body Wrap #044 £8.00Use the body wrap for calming excitable youngsters or adults. The Body Wrap is very useful for camelids that kick or for teaching the idea of restraint free toenail trimming. The Body Wrap is made from high quality elastic wrap with four Velcro closures for size adjustments.

Halter Helper #032 £10.40A very nervous and jumpy group of suri alpacas at an Advanced Clinic helped us create a brand new tool! The Halter Helper is a modified short length of nylon webbing with the double-ring system. A great tool to halter animals when you no longer need the length of the Catch/Training Rope. Also extremely useful when working with volatile animals. Use in a half-Catch Pen with group of weanlings. Colors: same as Lead colors on page 10. (A bright color makes it easy to find in your gear bag or tote.)

Herding Tape#042 £18.40 (40p each additional foot)This clever item—a lightweight, highly visible, 1” tubular nylon—will reduce the cost of building lane ways and gates. Simply attach Herding Tape to the corner of your paddock with the snap-lock buckle, walk out with the tape, corral your animals and bring them in. Herding Tape works best with a herding pole or TTEAM wand. The standard 45-foot length works best for most applications, but special lengths available by special order. Get two or three to equip each paddock. Colors: white, orange, yellow

Taming the Tiger Rope #043 £11.20

Taming the Tiger is a technique that allows one person to guide and balance a camelid from both sides without cross-tying. Used in conjunction with the Zephyr Training Lead and Halter, Taming the Tiger creates a pulley arrangement that is useful for shearing, toenail trimming, injections and grooming. Demonstrated in the Alpaca Training & Handling video and detailed in The Camelid Companion.

Hand Shears #051 £21.60 Shears Only#052 £7.20 Holster Only#053 £27.20 Shears & Holster COMBO

These hand shears with 6.25” blades make short work of shearing without the noise, expense and hassle of the cord that comes with the electric shears. The shears have a spring action to ease stress on the hands and are comfortable to use for people with large or small hands. The hand-shearing method is demonstrated in the Wonderful World of Lama Wool video.

Buy Shears & Holster COMBO and save! Wear your shears on your belt. You will not only feel like a gunslinger from the Wild West, but your shears will always be handy when you need them. A holster gives you a safe place to put the shears away quickly if your animal moves. Holster is handmade of high quality leather.

Toenail Nippers #054 £13.60 Nippers Only#055 £9.60 Holster Only#056 £21.60 Nippers-Holster COMBO Many toenail nippers are too big and awkward to accommodate a small hand. These nippers are sturdy enough to do the job but work with smaller hands too. These are the ideal nippers for trimming toenails on the ground. Toenail trimming techniques are demonstrated in both the Teaching Your Llama to Pack and the Camelid Handling Secrets videos and explained in detail in The Camelid Companion.

Buy Nippers & Holster COMBO and save! Nothing is more frustrating than to have your animal’s foot right where you want it only to have your nippers just out of reach. Buy a holster with your nippers, get a discount and always have them right where you need. The holster is designed to be worn on either the belt or the leg.

Boar Bristle Brush #057 £10.40Sturdy and useful, this brush is the perfect tool to groom your llama or alpaca. The boar bristle brush will remove debris without pulling on the fleece, so it will not irritate your animal. He will therefore be easier to groom and will not develop undesirable behaviors associated with unpleasant grooming. This is a very high-quality genuine boar bristle brush with nylon stiffeners and a wooden handle. Brushes that look like this but have plastic handles and plastic bristles do not work as well. A good tool to use with or without a blower.
