June 25, 2017
Dear Parishioners, It is a very human thing to “fear.” We tend to things that we wouldn’t
ordinarily do because of fear. There are people who want us to do
something for them, and they use fear to motivate us. Satan also uses
fear to trick us to sin. Some fears that they may run into is fear of loss,
(of status, job, friends, popularity, even death) just to name a few.
We can also be fearful of following our faith. The world tends to
frown upon Christianity (and Catholicism), so we become fearful of
practicing our faith. However, Jesus is telling us that we do not have to
be fearful. He has conquered sin and death by His resurrection. He
tells us to go and proclaim the Gospel to all.
Jesus gave us a promise, that He will remain with us always. This
promise was fulfilled at Pentecost. It is through faith in Jesus, and
through our participation in the Sacraments that we are strengthened
and transformed. Through the Eucharist, we are instilled with divine
life. We do not have to fear. Our fear becomes our joy.
The question for us this weekend is: “What are you afraid of?” Take
those fears to God, to Jesus, and pray to the Holy Spirit for courage,
strength, and be open to what God wants to say to us. He gives us
everything we need for the journey, we just have to remain open to His
grace.
Many thanks and God bless,
Fr. Davis
