Archbishop Michael Jackels announced that the

parishes in the Archdiocese of Dubuque are reopening on the

May 30/31 weekend:

“This decision was based on receiving confirmation of our

interpretation of the relevant data, namely, that there has been

a 14-day downward trend in positive tests, hospitalizations, and

deaths related to COVID-19 in the 30 northeastern counties in

Iowa.

We’re not yet out of the woods; the coronavirus is still with

us. If we’re not careful, it could come back with a vengeance.

We will continue to monitor the data.

With regard to gathering for a liturgy or a devotional in

church, on account of social distancing, there will only be room

for a smaller number of people to attend. But not to worry,

because everyone will still remain dispensed from the law to

participate in Mass on Sundays and holy days, until further notice,

probably when a vaccine is available. Those who want to

receive Holy Communion can satisfy that desire at a weekday

Mass.

When we open, remember to pray for those who died

during the pandemic, and for those who haven’t been able to

grieve their passing properly. And pray too, for people who

are sick, for caregivers, and for those who live in fear for their

lives and their livelihood.

We eventually want the pews filled, and programs well-

attended, it just might take some time. Prayers for the end of

the pandemic’s threat, as well as patience and cooperation are

what’s needed most right now. May God bless us all.”

Sunday

In Honor of Don & Connie

McCoy’s Anniversary St. Columbkille

received $250.00 to provide hosts and

wine for the month of June, 2020. What

a wonderful gift!

During This Stressful Time we have

had to adopt new guidelines for the Sacra-

ment of Reconciliation. For the time being

we can only do confessions by appoint-

ment. If you want to make an appoint-

ment, please call the Parish Office and the

secretary will ask you a few questions and

get your first name and your telephone

number. The secretary will then contact Fr.

Paul and he will call you direct either to set

up an appointment or just talk to you on

the phone. We don’t like this situation any

better than you do—but we have to be safe

AND we want YOU to be safe as well.

“...shelter us under the mantle of your protection,

keep us in the embrace of your arms, help us al-

ways to know the love of your Son, Jesus.

Amen.” —- Intercession of Our Lady of Guadalupe

Come Holy Spirit Come!

This is the first line of the sequence for the celebration of

Pentecost and it has become a common prayer for me. The needed

third step in the resurrected life.

Jesus rose from the dead, he ascended into heaven and he sent

the Holy Spirit. We elevate these three events with liturgical

celebrations but we are called to enact them in our lives.

Oftentimes, people want the experience of these to be found

within the liturgy in itself and they find it lacking. I don’t think

liturgy works that way. Liturgy elevates what God has revealed to

us as a way of living.

In the Resurrection, we are reminded that death is not the end.

New life, a resurrected life is meant for each of us. We have small

deaths in our life everyday, we are called to embrace the new life

God makes available to us.

In the Ascension, we see Jesus returning home with wounds and

all. Heaven has the capacity for our brokenness. Some wounds,

like the marks of his nails, make us more human rather than less.

Heaven has room for the fullness of who are called to be.

What about Pentecost? Why is this a needed third step?

The revelation of this event indicates the long term nature of this

third step. “And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began

to speak in different tongues, as the Spirit enabled them to

proclaim” (Act 2:4).

In the Resurrection and the Ascension, these two events could be

interpreted as a personal and short-term phenomenon. As a good

Christian, I will sit in my room praying and waiting for the day of

my final resurrection and ascension. However, Pentecost does not

allow this interpretation. God gives the Apostles the ability to

share this good news in every language present. The communal

nature of resurrection, ascension, and Pentecost becomes front and

center.

We are given the Holy Spirit as well. In our Baptism and in

Confirmation, we are united with the disciples in the room at

Pentecost. In the gifts we are given, we are called to share.

May you experience the joy of the Holy Spirit flooding your heart

and help you to share the joy of the resurrection, ascension, and

Pentecost as a way of living.

In Christ,

Fr. David

An Act of Spiritual Communion

My Jesus,

I believe that You are present in the Most

Holy Sacrament.

I love You above all things,

and I desire to receive YOU into my soul.

Since I cannot at this moment receive You

sacramentally,

Come at lease spiritually into my heart.

I embrace You as if You were already there

and unite myself wholly to You.

Never permit me to be separated from YOU.

Amen.

Due to the Corona Virus there is no

obligation to attend Mass — we have

changed the St. Columbkille daily

Mass time to 5:30 pm on Monday thru

Thursday so you have options to

receive The Eucharist other than at

Sunday Mass. But we must still

practice social distancing, masks etc.
