PRESIDENT’S CORNER
JANUARY 2013
Happy New Year!
It’s finally here-the long awaited transition to the new website. First, I would like
to thank Robert Elizondo for his work on maintaining the old website. While
cumbersome, he kept it functional until we could make the change, with the help of
Lori Oakley, to the new setup. We have recruited two volunteers from UT System
to maintain the new website going forward, so we look forward to new and
improved access to IIA Austin events and information.
As you know, the IIA sponsored professional recognition credit for its new
certification, the CRMA. This campaign was very successful, and currently, the
IIA is seeking assistance with CRMA test development. Charlie Johnson from
LCRA is heading up a work group and training. If you are interested in
participating in this project, please contact Charlie at [email protected].
The Board has several committees actively engaged in various IIA business and
activities. Currently, our Nominations committee, chaired by President Elect Lori
Oakley ([email protected] ), is actively seeking volunteers from
members interested in serving on the Board and various committees of our local
chapter. As you recall, last month we created procedures and guidance related to
providing travel assistance to International Committee Members. The Bylaws
committee, chaired by IIA Governor Kathy Baca ([email protected] ), is
updating the bylaws and determining whether any other updates need to be made.
IIA Governor Paula Bishir-Jensen ([email protected]) is the
newsletter editor, so contact her if you want to see something In the newsletter.
Our Award committee, chaired by IIA Governor Marcus Horton
([email protected] ), is reviewing our current process for nominating
recipients for various chapter awards to ensure a fair and transparent nominations
process. Our VP of CPE, Summer Daniel ([email protected]) is working
diligently with various Board members and other volunteers to evaluate our event
venue options to ensure we are optimizing our limited resources. Lastly, Andrew
Keegan, Golf Committee Chair, is in the planning stages of the IIA Austin
Chapter’s annual golf event.
If interested in participating in any of these short term commitments, please contact
the committee chairs directly.
In closing, on behalf of the Board of Governors, I would like to welcome Michael
Peppers, Chairman of the IIA’s North American Board to Austin. He will be a
great addition to the Austin audit community.
Best regards,
Rachel Snell, Austin IIA Chapter President

NEW WEBSITE/NEWSLETTER
In case you didn’t notice, this month’s newsletter has a new
look. We decided that even though the newsletter looked
good, the photos of the Capital may unintentionally be
emphasizing the government sector members of the
chapter rather then the Austin Chapter as a whole, so we
found some classic Austin photos. Hope you like the new
look. Also we finally have our new website up and it
looks/works great. You may need to replace the link on
your bookmark as the address changed. Just go to the old
location and there is a link to the new one. Check it out!!!

On November 8 – 10, 1942, The IIA held its first annual
conference in New York City. Since then, this world-class event
has been held in more than 50 locations worldwide and attracts
over 2,500 attendees annually. The IIA’s International
Conferences showcase the best the profession has to offer and
provide participants from around the world with an
understanding of the latest developments in internal auditing.
Today, the International Conference is the premier event for
internal auditors who want to hear powerful keynote speakers
and international presenters representing the global internal
audit profession. Attendees are presented with a number of
concurrent sessions on today’s current issues and trends,
industry best practices seeking to address common challenges,
and knowledge-sharing opportunities. The overall experience
enhances professional development, provides engaging peer-
to-peer networking, and affords access to key service firms and
vendors, and much more.
