CKRR . US CLUB KOKOMO ROADRUNNERS Email address: [email protected] Wow, the year ended and I'm still trying to catch up; on my writing that is! I guess I missed the finish line! I will start out by thanking everyone that par- ticipated and/or supported our 26th Annual Charity Run on November 13. I am especially thankful that we were able to raise a much needed and appre- ciated $2000.50 which was dis- tributed to Gilead House and the Magic and Care Closets. In addition to fantastic food and fellowship there were also some fast times. Course records were set in the run as BJ Needler blistered the course with a time of 15:51 and Vince Lorenz con- tinued to rewrite the walk rec- ord books with a time of 27:20. I also enjoy witnessing and hearing about our youth runners and others new to our sport who are setting personal bests as they work to discover the limits of their potential. For those of you who stay in- formed here is a NEWS FLASH. The Jackie Sanders Miracle Mile was going to take a vacation to New Zealand for the months of January and Feb. but there has been a change of plans. Jerry Leech wanted to run a marathon to celebrate his seventh decade. He began on Nov. 3 with the intent to run the Miracle Mile for 26 consecutive weeks and complete his 6 month marathon. I told Jerry, if he kept showing up, so would I. He did and so will I! If Jerry continues his streak we will have a special celebration in April but he will have to run an extra .2 to get his med- al! Remember the winter start- ing time is 5:30 PM each Wednesday in Highland Park. We concluded 2010 with our Annual New Year's Eve 5K and this is a race I will never forget as well over 300 runners, walkers and volunteers packed the UAW Local 292 Assembly Hall. I've been doing this for over 20 years now and I've never heard of or seen a race where that many folks unexpectedly show up but we are glad you all did as we raised $3,000 for our Coyote Kids Summer Running Pro- gram! BJ Needler was in Tennes- see so was unable to defend his course record as IU recruit, Kyle Overway from Logansport low- ered that standard to 15:43. In the women's race Bethany and Brittany Neeley took a break from their undefeated Green- town Comets basketball schedule to finish first and third with times of 20:05 and 20:18 with all -time great KHS track star, Byron Bundrent, sandwiched in- between. It was great to see By- ron easing back into racing as he is now a Grandmaster at age 50. Among the walkers Vince Lorenz lowered his course record by one tick with a time of 27:19. We had an incredibly strong finish to 2010 and I'm excited to see what the new year will bring. As we end the year the Club Kokomo's family of run- ners and walkers has grown to almost 500 strong. I'm sure each of you have some special goals for yourselves, family members and loved ones. It is my hope that Club Kokomo can help each of you reach goals in every aspect of your life through our events, programs and the friendships that are formed. I encourage you to get involved, be an en- couragement to others and volunteer when the spirit moves you. I have been blessed beyond measure and you can be too. Hope to see you soon in one of our great local gyms, at the Miracle Mile or out on the roads and trails! The 39th Annual Ground Hog 7 Mile Run which now in- cludes the scenic Zionsville Rail Trail is back on the sched- ule as the first points race of 2011. The race takes place at Zionsville High School on Sun- day, February 6, 1:00 p.m. There is no registration fee for this race. The cost is one or more canned or non- perishable food items for Gleamers Food Bank. If you are unsure what to bring visit www.gleaners.org. You are encouraged to pre-register online at www.indyrunners.org so organizers can plan refresh- ments. Parent's - Check out the Groundhoglet Children's Race. our position and our vision as a running

group for the New Year than to say that “we

are still here” and we will not be “outlasted”!

Not that we are considered meek and mild,

fast and furious or some counter balance in

between. But that we are still HERE - run-

ning, training, racing, motivating and creating

“moments” and opportunities time for our

fellow runners and not just a bib and t-shirt at

a weekend race. This year and moving for-

ward, we, as a running club have the amazing

potential of bringing one of the most empow-

ering hobbies to the communities around us

and to use it as a tool to touch the lives of

those around us.

Running is so much more than a

physical release; it is an escape, a rare oppor-

tunity of solitude we seldom get with our-

selves. It begins the moment we lace up and

shut our house door behind us. Only as a

runner can you appreciate how the numerous

layers our crazy lives begin to peal away as we

lose ourselves in the hypnotic tap of our feet

caressing the pavement. This is our time…

our rejuvenation! … I anxiously wait what this

year has in store for us.

But before we start our journey into

2011 we still have some business to finish up

for 2010. Our annual awards banquet will be

held at the Nazarine Church on Sunday,

February 27th at 2pm. The awards selection

meeting to determine 2010 recipients will be

held Sunday January 16th at Kokomo Sports

Center, from 5-7pm. Any club member is wel-

come to attend and be apart of the awards selec-

tion process. Please note that we will not be

having a January club meeting due to the

awards selection meeting instead. Regular club

meetings will resume on February 7 at Pastar-

iffic. Social Hour starts at 5:30 and meeting

starts at 6:30. I do hope that in 2011 that we

will get a greater number and a more diverse

members in attendance to the monthly meet-

ings.

I’ll end with one of my favorite verses,

"Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a

great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off every-

thing that hinders and the sin that so easily

entangles. And let us run with perseverance the

race marked out for us,"Hebrews 12:1 NIV,

Health and blessings,

Rebekah

From the President by Rebekah Monroe

From your CKRR chaplain

First things first

Financial success at the sacrifice of integrity, peer acceptance, blind tolerance, sexual impurity; wrong role models (celebrity worship), material

goods. Any item, person or activity that one would place as having more importance in their life than God, is an idol.

Titus 2:11-14

For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. It teaches us to say "No" to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live

self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed hope—the glorious appearing of our great God and

Savior, Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager

to do what is good.

"You also need to look back,

not just at the people who are running

behind you but especially at those who

don't run and never will... those who run

but don't race...those who started train-

ing for a race but didn't carry

through...those who got to the starting

line but didn't make the finish

line...those who once raced better than

you but no longer run at all. You're still

here. Take pride in wherever you finish.

Look at all the people you've outlasted." -
