CYC Board Highlights
At the February 21 Board of Directors meeting, the following actions were taken:l Approved summer youth sailing schedulel Noted Wi-Fi installation is on schedulel Learned that new members are leaning towards social rather than full membershipsThe next board meeting will be held March 21.
WOW–FebruarY was a bus-tling month at our club!
Many of our Seasonal Members are here, and it’s great to see them partici-pating in the wonderful events we had in February. We also have a number of reciprocal members from clubs across the country visiting us—both by land and sea.
Thank you to all our members for their fantastic participation in February. The club was busy! Many of our highlights included a Super Bowl that brought some Super Scores for a few members who had the right numbers in the football pool, a lovely Valentine’s Dinner Dance, a sold-out Valentine’s Day—complete with Trivia, the return of jazz music at our grand breakfast buffet, a well-attended, record-breaking Chowdah Challenge, and so much support from our members for the Laser Midwinter Regatta.
This prestigious sailing event, a world class qualify-ing regatta, brought us over 150 sailors from half a dozen countries this year. We couldn’t stage such a major event without the assistance from the Clearwater Community Sailing Center, our CYC support team and Race Committee, and members from other yacht clubs who have trained with us for this event—both on land and water. A huge round of applause to all who participated for a job well executed.
In January we purchased a new Boston Whaler to replace an aging boat in our fleet, as well as a new engine for an-other boat. We are having a contest to name our new ves-sel, and I encourage each of you to send in your suggestion. Give us your best one-word name for the newest member of our fleet that will join our other two boats, Gizmo and Pegasus. We will announce the winner this month.
March traditionally brings wonderful weather, the kickoff of dock parties and our most formal event, the Commo-dore’s Ball March 9. Your invitations have arrived in your mailboxes. Carol and I would like to personally invite you to attend this tradition of celebrating past and pres-ent commodores with us. We have a new band, Tinsley’s Project, performing this year. Please consider making a reservation and joining us for this time-honored tradition.
See you at the club!

LOOks LIke sprINg is com-ing a little early this year. Well, after all, Phil (not the Commodore) didn’t see his shadow, so his prediction is correct. It’s totally OK with me. Just means more boating and CYC time for everyone.
Don’t forget to call Linda, our fabulous dockmaster, to get you into a slip for an afternoon or evening cruise to the pool or Tiki bar. She always does a great job accommo-dating everyone she can.
Also, don’t forget to turn in your “one-word” entry for our “Name that Whaler” contest. Just email Virginia in the office with your suggestion. You may be the lucky winner who gets to christen the new boat at the party to be an-
nounced at a later date! That’s it for now. See you March 27 at the Waterside
meeting or around the club.

The CruIsers are off to a fun start with our first trip of the year to Bradenton and the Twin Dolphin Marina. Thanks to planning by our hosts Cliff and Donna Wyatt, thirteen boats arrived on Thursday to a beauti-ful refurbished marina at Twin Dolphin.
Our itinerary for the weekend included a “docktail” party Thursday night, followed by lunch at the Motor Works Brewery and a corn-hole tournament. Then we had a delicious dinner at the Pier 22 restaurant to finish off Friday night. On Saturday we took a leisurely stroll through the Farmers Market on Main Street by the marina, followed by lunch at Council’s Burgers. This establishment, founded in 1923, serves hamburgers and offers billiard tables
for entertainment. Then we were off to dinner at the Bradenton Yacht Club Saturday night before heading home Sunday under beautiful skies. Thanks again to Cliff and Donna Wyatt for planning such a fun weekend.
March 14-17 we’ll be traveling to Tampa for the St.
Patrick’s Day celebration and April 25-28 we’ll be going to the St. Petersburg Yacht Club in downtown St. Pete.
I want to invite all yacht club members to come to our meetings on the second Wednesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. Please join us if you would like to get involved with our fun club.

MarCh WINDs may bring April showers, but this month I am looking forward to yet another rain-free celebra-tion for our upcoming CYC Blessing of the Fleet which is scheduled Saturday morning, April 13.
In many places throughout the northern hemisphere, a Bless-ing of the Fleet marks the beginning of a new boating season. Yacht clubs and sailing organizations are finalizing plans for sum-mer cruises, social activities and youth sailing programs that will leave families and individuals with memories that last a lifetime. What a blessing it is to be able to look forward to the days that lie ahead—and to do so with gratitude for all the special memo-ries of days past which we continue to cherish.
Therefore, with winter behind us, March upon us and
Chaplain’s Log
“April, Come She Will” (Simon and Garfunkel), I want to share some of my favorite CYC memories with you via these photos.
Springtime has come, and at Clearwater Yacht Club new mem-ories are just waiting to be made. May yours become a blessing for you and those you love in the days and years to come.

The prOspeCTIve Member-ship Party February 1 was a chance for members to bring in a guest to see all that our club has to offer—great food, live music, fantastic staff and awesome comradery among members. We didn’t get the turn-out that I was hoping for, but we did get one new member during the party. I would like to thank the six members who brought guests that evening and enjoyed half price drinks, passed appetizers and also received a $20 gift certifi-cate. The member sponsor whose guest signed up that evening received an additional $100 gift certificate.
Recruiting and signing new members is crucial to CYC’s sustainability and longevity. A couple of talking points that members can share with prospective mem-bers include the following:
l CYC has been instrumental in creating many new great and long-term friendships among our members. l Have a spouse that travels? What could be better than coming to the club for dinner where you know you will feel safe and enjoy a meal with plenty of friendly faces?
If you have any ideas, please feel free to contact me in person when you see me at the club, email me at [email protected] or come to the next Member-ship meeting Wednesday, March 6, at 6:30 p.m.

HoUSE and GRoUNDSThe DILIgeNT little elves of House and Grounds continue to work away, mostly behind the scenes. Last month saw the completion of the pavers harvesting and the introduction of our outdoor dance floor. Also completed were many of the touch-up items on our walk-about list. The contractor who did the upstairs remodeling has also agreed to come by and touch up areas in need.
While there is no obvious progress visible on the new phone/internet system, there are many parts in motion. The various installation crew chiefs have been doing their on-site reviews, and we are now waiting for parts to arrive. All are hoping the March 15 start date will happen.
We continue to discuss replacement options for the walk-ins. The project will include not only the units themselves, but also the construction necessary around them and the storage of food items while construction is in progress. Sanitary codes, of course, must be met while the work is underway. It is our in-tent to keep the kitchen in full mode while this is going on, but there may be short periods which require a modified menu.
The dumbwaiter continues to be a problem and is down again. We are awaiting brake parts. It should be up and running as you read this article.
Some of our future discussions will revolve around the sprinkler system and doing updated, eco-friendly landscap-ing for the front of the club. Also, on the upcoming agenda is a review of the parking lot condition and any necessary maintenance.
Each of you, as members, have a stake in the club and its condition. Please help by attending the House and Grounds meeting and adding your input, or by dropping me a line to let us know about anything you’ve noticed that needs our attention. My email is [email protected].
The next House and Grounds meeting is March 5 at 6 p.m. All members are not only welcome but encouraged to attend. Please join us!

general Manager’s Letterby Tom brusini, general ManagerIT’s DIFFICuLT to believe that the month of March is already upon us. Wasn’t it just New Year’s Eve? Since time flies so fast, we must all be having fun! Please make sure to open every “Constant Contact” you get--it holds updates on all the good parties coming up!
Our first party couldn’t be better--Mardi Gras on the
Tiki Deck! Find those beads, hats and masks. Come pre-pared to dine and dance under the stars! Seafood Gumbo, Jambalaya, Crawfish Etouffee and more!
Get out that tuxedo, nice suit, or cocktail dress and plan
on dressing “to the nines” for our annual Commodores Ball Saturday, March 9! If you’ve not joined us before--and yes, that means some of our new members!--THIS IS THE SEASON OPENER FOR US! This is the evening we recognize all Commodores, past and present, with a formal, sit-down dinner. We’ll begin on the Tiki deck downstairs, enjoying butler-passed appetizers. Then we’ll move upstairs to con-tinue the party! Once the Commodores have been intro-duced, we’ll enjoy a fabulous multi-course dinner followed by dancing the night away!
Now’s the time to reserve your table for our annual St.
Patrick’s Day Party Saturday, March 16! Past Commodore Sandie “O’Ramsden” is hosting this fun evening once again, and she knows how to throw a party! Irish buffet, including corned beef & cabbage and bangers (sausage) & mash! So, check your costume closet (doesn’t everyone have one?) for something green, call your friends and make a table.
Let’s Karaoke! Saturday, March 23 is our Birthday &
Anniversary Night for January, February and March…and Karaoke as well! If your birthday falls in the first quarter,
your dinner buffet is on the house! If your wedding anniver-sary falls during that same time, enjoy a refreshing compli-mentary adult beverage!
Thanks to all members and guests who attended our an-
nual Chowdah Challenge—how fun was that? From New England Clam Chowder to Smoked Salmon Chowder to Corn Crab Chowder to Lobster Chowder to Chick Pea Chowder…it was awesome! Huge thanks go out to our hosts, Joe and Helen Correia. We had the highest attendance ever for this party. My team even had to bring out extra tables for the patio since the weather was perfect!
Keep those comments coming! It is important that we
know how your experience is here--from the taste of the meals to the quality of your service. We want to make your club the first place you choose to dine, and the place you want to bring friends and guests to impress them!
At your service, I remain,Tom Brusini
