31st aNNual Chamber golf ClassIC
It was the perfect day for golf as the Independence Chamber of Commerce hosted its 31st annual Chamber Golf Classic. The tournament was held Tuesday, June 21 at WinterStone Golf Course and presented by Stewardship Capital.
More than 120 golfers comprised 30 teams and competed in the tournament. Lafarge No. 1 claimed the top spot in the “A” flight with a total score of 52, beating Galen Boyer Motors by two strokes. In the “B” flight, Meyer Complete won and Centerpoint Medical Center finished second. ATK won the “C” flight and Pepsi America finished second. All of the golfers enjoyed the beautiful weather on their day off from work.
“Even though our team was only about 30 strokes from taking the lead, it was a beautiful day and the chamber staff was so accommodating,” M&I Bank Vice President Sonci Bleckinger said.
The day began with a breakfast provided by The Big Biscuit before the players hit the course. After completing their rounds, the teams came in for lunch sponsored by Missouri Gas Energy and catered by Carrabba’s Italian Grill.
“(The chamber) did a tremendous job of showcasing all of the sponsors,” Stewardship Capital Vice President Greg Finke said. “I look forward to the networking during the lunch-awards portion every year and am always reminded how connected the local business community really is.
During lunch, several prizes were given out for achievements such as longest drive and putt and a silent auction was held with gifts ranging from Kansas City Royals tickets to golf gift bags.
The Independence Chamber of Commerce would like to thank the tournament’s sponsors, players and volunteers for contributing to another successful golf tournament.

TRUMAN MEDICAL CENTERS Truman Medical Centers President and CEO and current Chair of the American Hospital Association Board of Trustees John W. Bluford, FACHE, recently became a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, the nation’s leading professional society for healthcare leaders. “Because healthcare management ultimately affects the people in our communities, it is critically important to have a standard of excellence promoted by a professional organization,” says Thomas C. Dolan, PhD, FACHE, CAE, president and chief executive officer of ACHE. “By becoming an ACHE Fellow and simultaneously earning board certification from ACHE, healthcare leaders can show that they are committed to providing high-quality service to their patients and community.” Fellow status represents achievement of the highest standard of professional development. In fact, only 8,500 healthcare executives hold this distinction. To obtain Fellow status, candidates must fulfill multiple requirements, including passing a comprehensive examination, meeting academic and experiential criteria, earning continuing education credits and demonstrating professional/community involvement. Fellows are also committed to ongoing professional development and undergo recertification every three years. [email protected], or visit ache.org/FACHE.
