When James and Gini Schultz first came to us with this idea, we weren’t sure what kind of support we would get from the community. After all, who would want to just give us one of their antiques for the sale? But it turns out that many of you had items to donate and this was a great way to help the museum and gain a tax-deduction at the same time. Thanks to everyone who donated items the antique sale made over $2,500! All of that money has gone into the museum budget to be used to purchase Clarkston artifacts when we see them for sale. In the past, our budget was much more limited so this will have a huge impact on what we can buy for the collection. What was really amazing is that the antique tent was never empty of customers - people really loved it. So of course, we will include this sale in next year’s show and are already making plans. collecting items for next year’s show throughout this year. The historical society has a storage unit, so we hope that if you find you can donate an item for our sale next year you will call us at the CCHS office, (248) 922- 0270. We know that sometimes when you are cleaning out a space you want to move the item now and not wait until next fall. We also hope that if you have a garage sale and there are antiques or collectibles left, you will consider donating them to this great cause. It would be wonderful if we could replenish our artifact budget each year in this manner. Thank you again to all the great people who donated or bought items, and especially to James, Gini and Sarah Schultz for all their hard work in running this sale. e want to tell you about the terrific support we received for our newest idea, the Antique Tent Sale held during ART IN THE VILLAGE. annual event. he bad news is that the last few months have been pretty slow formuseum donations. The good news is that thanks to the overwhelmingsuccess of the Antique Tent Sale added to Art In The Village this year,we now have a much bigger budget for purchasing Clarkston artifacts

when we see them for sale. However, I am happy to report on the few greatdonations we did receive…

Let’s start with a riddle… what is black, ten feet long and has eight legs?(Hint: it is not something that crawled out of the Mill Pond.) Give up? It’s a parson’sbench that originally came from the First Methodist Church built at 29 Buffalo in1873. Donated by Mr. & Mrs. McArthur, this great bench has been placed in themuseum where it can be enjoyed and used for many years to come.

We recently had the chance to shift through the remains of aClarkston estate and found some local items for the museum. Of specialinterest was a box of Clarkston Village Players programs dating back thelast 30 years. What a great record of all the productions staged by thistalented local theater group.

James & Gini Schultz donated the original wood sign from theirantique store when Jean McGee owned it. “Ye Olde Time Shoppe” located at 21N. Main existed from the 1930s until 1971 when purchased by James and Gini.

We have also acquired several photo postcards: the Ford Hydro plant,1930 Main Street, the First Methodist Church on Buffalo, the original ClarkstonState Bank with the post office next to it, and a view of South Main whichincludes the Dairy Bar, Chrysler Dealership and Garter Hardware.

Byexploring local aspects of church, school, business and home, we hope to offervisitors a peek into the lives of Clarkston’searliest families. This exhibit will beinstalled and finished by the end ofNovember, so plan to attend on December 9th
