Congratulations to our Bangla students and Mrs Shamsia who presented at assembly last week and described the celebration of Bangla New Year. Many of the students wore red and showed the cards and special items that are shared during the New Year celebrations. It was terrific to see a number of students who are interested in the Bangla culture share their acquired knowledge of the celebration as well. Stage One learn about their “friends of ten” in English and Bangla Our Stage One students have been learning the addition combinations that make ten and have had the opportunity to practise recording these in Bangla as well. The students were proud and enthusiastic to demonstrate their understanding and recordings to Ms Orlovich. Congratulations on learning “friends of ten” in Bangla and English, Stage One! A proud day for Donlo! Donlo in 1 Blue was very proud to present his argument for “why houses should be built of bricks” to his classmates and Ms Orlovich. Donlo and his class had read The Three Little Pigs and then Donlo created an argument to present his view to the class. Donlo made palm cards to assist him and presented some convincing arguments. Congratulations on your great effort, Donlo! Our first band performance will impress the crowds! Our band will make its first public performance for the year on Thursday 19 May at 10.30am. The band will perform in the school hall and parents and carers are welcome to attend the performance. Come along and hear how well the students are progressing! The students are currently practising for performances later in the term and year, including Bandfest and The Daceyville Big Band Bash. Delicious homemade hamburgers were enjoyed on “Hamburger Day” Our P and C provided almost 150 delicious hamburgers for students last Wednesday. Our food days are always popular and students enjoyed the opportunity to taste fresh, healthy meal options. Thank you to the P and C for their commitment and organisation and to the parents and carers who assisted on the day. The smiles on our students’ faces tell the story! WE’RE TAKING IT IN OUR STRIDE ON FRIDAY 20 MAY 2016Well it’s that time of year again when our school seriously starts talking about walking!Walk Safely to School Day asks that we all consider our transport habits and try

to incorporate more walking as part of a healthy, active way to get around. And although walking all the way to school isn’t realistic for many of us, we can incorporate a walk in to your morning routine by:* walking with them the whole way to school* walking past your usual bus/train stop and get on at the next stop* parking the car a few blocks away from school and walking the rest of the wayRemember, Active Kids are Smarter Kids so get planning your own Walk Safely to School Day journey for Friday 20 May 2016!For more information, visit www.walk.com.au
