Earlier, it was a state University which was converted into a Central University by an Act of Parliament. It is expected to play an important role in the current phase of development of higher education in the region. Consequent upon resignation of Prof. David R. Syiemlieh from the office of Vice-Chancellor of this University on account of his appointment as a member of Union Public Service Commission, the office of Vice Chancellor has been lying vacant since 06.06.2012. The Ministry has, therefore, set in motion the process of appointment of the Vice- Chancellor of this University. 2. According to the University Statute, the Vice-Chancellor shall be appointed by the Visitor, i.e. the President of India, from a panel of not less than three persons recommended by a Committee consisting of three persons; out of whom two shall be nominated by the Executive Council of the University and one by the Visitor, and the nominee of the Visitor shall be the Convener of the Committee. The appointment to the post of Vice-Chancellor is made for a term of five years or till the incumbent attains the age of sixty-five years, whichever is earlier, and he shall not be eligible for re-appointment. 3. The Selection Committee held its first meeting on 23rd August, 2012 and decided to request distinguished persons in the field of academia, science, technology, arts and culture to suggest names of suitable persons for its consideration for drawing the requisite panel of names for submission to the Hon'ble Visitor. As you might be aware, Rajiv Gandhi University, Itanagar (Arunachal Pradesh) is a premier institution of higher education in the state of Arunachal Pradesh. Earlier, it was a state University which was converted into a Central University by an Act of Parliament. It is expected to play an important role in the current phase of development of higher education in the region. Consequent upon resignation of Prof. David R. Syiemlieh from the office of Vice-Chancellor of this University on account of his appointment as a member of Union Public Service Commission, the office of Vice Chancellor has been lying vacant since 06.06.2012. The Ministry has, therefore, set in motion the process of appointment of the Vice­Chancellor of this University.

2.
