Viennese brass and wind bands fascinat-ed an audience that filled the Mozart Hallin Vienna’s Konzerthaus on 23 October,2016. Presenter Theresia Haiger charmedand entertained throughout the evening, first announcing the Stammersdorf MusicAssociation band.

The Stammersdorf band greeted the audi-ence with the “UNO March“, followed by“Espana“ and the “Maxglaner GypsyMarch“, probably best known from their NewYear’s Concert.

They were followed by the BOKU BrassBand who played “Celebration“ and, veryconvincingly, the mysterious “Dance with theDevil“.

The Music Corps of the Lazarus Unionspanned a musical arch from the “CoriolanOverture“ by Beethoven to “Music Was MyFirst Love“, for which Michael Wagner ap-peared as vocalist.

After the break the Vienna Academy Phil-harmonic Wind Band (ABW) presented thethird movement of “Symphony No. 2“ by thecontemporary composer David Maslanka. The ABW has made it its task to perform allof his works.

The evening concluded with the ViennaState Wind Orchestra playing the waltz“Gold and Silver“ and Tchaikovsky’s “Coro-nation March“. For an encore State Directorof Music, Herbert Klinger, couldn’t deny theaudience “The Radetzky March“.

This brought the evening to a very satisfyingconclusion.

On August 27th, 2016, the air day forhandicapped people was held atStockerau airfield for the 12th time al-ready. It has to be said that the eventworked out extremely well, with gor-geous weather as well, also all ourguests, participants, and supportersconsidered this to have been “… thebest air day ever…“. “Spectator“ hasbeen trying to find out why.

Firstly it has to be stated that the EUregulating frenzy also did not stop atevents like this one! Alas! The full set ofrequirements for such an event cannotbe handled anymore by ONE SINGLEORGANISATION. So what to do?

Simply combine forces and bring togeth-er several organisations where each cancontribute with the part it can do best.

For a start there is the most importantpartner, the Flying Club Stockerau(FSV2000), honorary Lazarus Unionmember, which has the complete infra-structure with the necessary “event loca-tion“ and which provided for the eventnot only its infrastructure but also part ofits fleet, air traffic control, food anddrinks, all FOR FREE.

Next organisation is the LAZARUS UN-ION which has the necessary know how, having organised 11 air days alreadywithout any incident and such wasproviding organisation, air assistants, medical service, and security and soplayed a major role in making sure the12th air day could be held without anyproblems and especially without any ac-cidents. In this place a big Thank You toall comrades who made this possible.

Coordination of the registrations as wellas providing and serving lunch for allguests and all volunteers was under theresponsibility of the “Behindertenhilfe(handicapped aid) Korneuburg“. AndEVERYTHING worked out just fine!

Other contributors to the success of theevent were the “Harley Davidson Club“,the voluntary fire brigade Spillern, provid-ing tours in a real fire engine, and CSLILtCol Günter Eichinger (for organisingterrific vintage cars and managing thatthese jewels of car construction could notonly be admired but also short tourscould be made – thanks also for this).

Last but not least the most importantthings: the airplanes without which we

could not have any guest lifted up andaway. Four planes were provided by theFSV2000, one by the FliegergruppeWien, and one was privately provided byDr. Christoph Auner for the 7th time al-ready, also piloting it himself. The heli-copter was provided by AERIAL Helicop-ter and piloted by the “father of all airdays“ CSLI founding member, formerspecial forces soldier, commercial heli-copter pilot and flight instructor, CSLILtCol Klaus Weber. Tirelessly he flew 14round trips as many of our guests want-ed to fly with the helicopter. Unfortunate-ly we could not fulfil this wish for all ofthem but the flights in the planes wereenjoyed just as much.

In total 57 plane flights and 14 helicopterflights were completed and so for morethan 200 guests the dream of flying

came true. A truly remarkable success!Kudos to the crews!

When speaking about figures also morethan 350 lunches, uncounted cakes forALL (provided by Konditorei Balz inKorneuburg), 40 litres of coffee andabout 600 litres of soft drinks (it was ahot day indeed) cannot be left unmen-tioned.

To avoid the printed bill obligation issuedby financial authorities (which alreadykilled several events organised by clubsand unions throughout the country) we“discovered“ a very simple method: ab-solutely EVERYTHING was free for eve-ryone! So some random visitors to theairfield also got to enjoy (unexpected)flights and refreshments. Just accordingto the Lazarus motto: just provide joy toother humans.

On September 22, 2016, in Antalya, Tur-key 12, an Investiture of the Knighthoodof Honour of the Lazarus Union was heldin the amphitheater of the Magic Life Re-sort “Waterworld”. This was an excep-tional location and setting for our Investi-ture ceremony. We chose this place care-fully and for the following reasons.

First, we wanted to keep the Lazarus Unionapolitical and non-denominational, and whatis said there can rise and set standardswhich the Lazarus Union embraces. Holdingthis Investiture in Turkey was an importantsign, among other things, that peace, recon-ciliation and charity are important to the Laz-arus Union. This was reflected in the individ-uals who received Honorary Knighthoods, again helping to raise awareness of the Laz-arus Union.

Originally it was planned that our MusicCorps would support the Investiture ceremo-ny, but unfortunately, for organizational rea-sons, this wasn’t possible this year. As thealternative, we had individual pieces of mu-sic, for the most part played by our MusicCorps, taken from a CD and used to high-

light “PowerPoint Presentations” of picturesfrom our work, our Investitures and our activ-ities around the world. The technical execu-tion of these presentations and music wascarried out by the professional techniciansfrom “Waterworld” who handled it all ex-tremely well, with virtually no rehearsal thetimings worked beautifully. Here again a bigcompliment and thank you!

The stage of the 1500 seat amphitheaterwas well prepared and the arrival of theKnights Aspirant and Postulants, with mem-bers of the Chapter was impressive.

As guest of honor we welcomed the Mayorof Belek and another three municipalities,Prof. Dr. Ramazan Calik to whom the “GoldStar of the Presidium of the Lazarus Union”was awarded.

After the playing of the Turkish National An-them in honor of our host country, the GrandMaster presented the new National CorpsStandard of “CSLI Turkey” to Chief Prefectfor Turkey, Chev. Ludwig Brunner.

This was followed by the Officer’s Pledgerecited by the Lord Chancellor Chev.Christoph Ptak and all CSLI Turkey Officerspresent. It should be mentioned that CSLITurkey already has well over a hundredmembers and is constantly growing. Caringfor the disabled (see past reports) is themain orientation of CSLI Turkey, of whichMayor Prof. Dr. Ramazan Calik is also verysupportive.

It must be said also that at Magic Life Resort“Waterworld” requirements for the disabledare particularly well provided for and it offersthose with physical disabilities a great holi-day experience in beautiful surroundings. The hospitality in Turkey is also more thanworth mentioning! Particularly poignant forus is the sadness of the current internationalcircumstances, which could come to damagemany years of good relationships and friend-ships. In our mission points we in the Laza-rus Union examined again and again ways toprevent this happening and seize opportuni-ties of which this Investiture in Turkey consti-tutes a visible sign.

The first high point of the ceremony was therecording of the addition of five Knights As-pirant in the Knighthood of Honour by thepresentation of “basic mantles” and the in-signia of “Knight / Dame Expectant”. Theywere: Bahar Ünlütaskiran, FerdaEgermen, Safak Akan, Seyit Urhan,Yilmaz Kurt.

This was followed by a second high point, the inclusion of: Aylin Karslioglu, IsmailKarslioglu, Meltem Sak, Volkan Sak, UsarMurat who were honoured as Knights in theKnighthood of Honour of the Lazarus Unionby the taking of the Knight’s promise andpresentation of the insignia (sword, mantleand Knight’s insignia) and the (symbolic)accolade by the Grand Master. Our Knight’sFanfare was played to honour each and eve-ry Knight and Dame.

Since Turkey is a Muslim country, theKnighthood of Honour of the Lazarus Unionrespects this philosophy and the crosses andcrossed swords (the sign of the Knighthoodof Honour) are instead represented by acrescent and crossed swords. This gestureunites, not divides, as we all were able toexperience for ourselves.

Members of the Lazarus Union present fromAustria included: Grandmaster Senator H. C.Wolfgang Steinharst with his wife, Chief Pre-fect Chev. Ludwig Brunner and his wife,Grand Chancellor Chev. Christoph Ptak,Treasurer Dame Monika Gries and CIC CSLINavy Corps Captain I.R. Chev. Hans-RudolfGries.

The following Guiding Officers of the “TurkeyPrefecture of Knighthood of Honour of theLazarus Union” were appointed by the awardof Certificates: General Manager Chev.Ismail Karslioglu appointed Prefect, Gen-eral Manager Chev. Volkan Sak appointedChancellor, General Manager Chev. UsarMurat appointed Marshal.

The Investiture was terminated with hando-ver of a friendship banner to General Man-ager Chev. Ismail Karslioglu and the depar-ture of the flags that were on stage and thena small firework display.

It should be strongly emphasized that theTurkish members inducted into the Knight-hood of Honour this time were in ratio of50:50 “men to women”. This is a very rarerelationship in and of itself in often “male-dominated knightly associations”. It is a fea-ture of the Lazarus Union (through our laws)but nevertheless a matter of some pride!

We spent an exceptionally nice time withmany new friends in Turkey and we were allsad when it came to say farewell. Happily,we are already preparing for the next Investi-ture in Turkey.

On 19th and 26th October the civil protec-tion group of CSLI Italy has organized, incollaboration with the Humaniter Founda-tion, two meetings of information andprevention, open to the public.

The first meeting, on 19th, was devoted toan analysis of the hazards and of criticalenvironmental issues present in the geo-graphical area (seismic, volcanic, hydro-geological, etc.), their trends, assessmentsand the knowledge of the fragile characteris-tics both of ecosystems and of social struc-tures. Starting from a systemic and geo-graphical analysis of an area it is possible toforecast possible events and to understandhow to reduce risks.

The second meeting, on 26th, was devoted tothe knowledge of how the Civil ProtectionSystem works, on the NBC (Nuclear, Biolog-ical, Chemical) and terrorist attack hazards, and to diffuse information on the best behav-iors every citizen may have in dangerousand crisis events. The aim of the meetingshas been to improve the individual preven-tive actions and the personal resilience.

The citizens attending the meeting were veryinterested in knowing not only general as-sessments but also some practical solutionsprovided for the seismic events that are af-fecting Italy in these weeks. Further meet-ings were required by people to be orga-nized in the coming months.

It is a long tradition that a delegation of theLazarus Union takes part in the events or-ganised by the Radetzky Order. On Decem-ber 8th the annual patronal feast of the Or-der was celebrated.

The Holy Mass was celebrated by the Dean ofthe Order Rector Prof. DDr. Reinhart Knitteland took place in the Prandtauer Church in St.Pölten.

Many amicable orders and organizations tookpart in the Holy Mass.

A brass ensemble of the Hoch- undDeutschmeister and also the church organistput everyone in a celebratory mood with theirsolemn musical performances.

In his sermon the Dean of the Order focussedon the values of a chivalric union und empha-sised that the Radetzky Order is a synonym forlived comradeship and keeper of Austrian mili-tary traditions.

After the Holy Mass the secular ceremony tookplace. A new knight of the Radetzky Order wassolemnly inaugurated.

At the end of the solemn ceremony the Orderinvited to a common lunch into the SummerRefectory of the Bishop`s Palace.

Before lunch some merited persons were hon-ored by awards. Our auditor Chev. Josef-MariaGebel received the Knights Cross of theRadetzky Order. Congratulations!

A partnership between the St. Michael`s Orderand the Radetzky Order was established bysigning certificates by Grand Prior GerhardFicker and GR ret. KR Dkfm. Harry Tomek.

The „Radetzky Order (RO)“ cares for the tradi-tions of the personality of the Field Marshal, forthe Austrian Military tradition, for sharing themto the youth, for the consolidation of theawareness of the spiritual defence of the coun-try, for the honor and appreciation of FieldMarshal`s final resting place at the Heldenbergin Kleinwetzdorf and for the remembrance ofall fallen and missed soldiers and of those whowere injured in service.

The Knighthood of Honor of the Lazarus Unionthanks for the invitation, for the good coopera-tion and the comradely and amicable relation-ships.
