power equipment and a site office within a

compound of approximately 10,000m2

• Temporary construction area located

adjacent to the onshore hydroelectric facility

• Permanent access route from the A857

• Access track to the shoreline.

• Onshore pipelines will be laid out in

trenches or on the surface

Offshore Site

• A 40MW wave energy array consisting of

between 40 and 50 Oysters attached to the

seabed.

• A spread of boats including a jack up barge,

a dive boat, a tug and a multicat will be

needed for offshore installation of pipelines

and piles.

• The Oysters will be winched into place by

mooring anchors and secured using rock

anchors.

• Pipelines to pump water from the Oysters to

the onshore hydroelectric power station

(these will be directionally drilled or surface

laid)

Employment Statistics

Aquamarine Power's study showed that their 40MW wave energy project in the

Western Isles could generate:

• 98 to 200 jobs in the Outer Hebrides and wider Highlands and Islands during

the construction phase - generating an estimated £4.49 million to £9 million

gross value added per year;

• 23 to 37 jobs during the 20 year operations and maintenance phase -

generating £1.3 million to £2.1 million per year.

• The calculation includes all direct employees and contractors used by

Aquamarine Power, indirect jobs such as shops, hotels and local services, and

induced jobs created by the increased overall activity in the area.
