Labor min assures disabled people of unbridled support KUWAIT CITY, Dec 3, (KUNA): Kuwait is eager to cater to the needs of people with disabilities, Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Hind Al-Sabeeh said on Monday. While the Kuwaiti government has al- ways supported special needs populations, there is still a lot of work that needs to be done, Al-Sabeeh, who also serves as min- ister of state for economic affairs, said in a statement. She revealed that the Kuwait government has enlisted the aid of the United Nations Development Program as part of efforts to ensure that people with disabilities get a fair shake, with many of them getting access to jobs as of late. Meanwhile, on Kuwait’s sustainable de- velopment plan, the secretary general of the General Secretariat of the Supreme Council for Planning and Development Dr Khaled Mehdi said it entails goals related to the en- vironment and the economy. He emphasized that the Kuwaiti government would spare no effort to make sure that the aforementioned goals come to fruition, which he said is an endeavor that requires collective effort. Echoing Al-Sabeeh’s remarks, he went on to say Kuwait is a proponent of all major global conventions that aim to protect the rights of people with special needs. Cabinet assigns bodies to speed up Sheikh Jaber Hospital management KD 1.5m donation by Hind Abdullah Al-Shalfan welcomed KUWAIT CITY, Dec 3, (KUNA): The Cabinet Monday assigned Public Investment Authority and Ministries of Health and Finance to speed up pro- cess for appointing a man- agement of Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah’s Hopsital by next Septem- ber. The Cabinet, in its weekly meeting chaired by His High- ness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Mubarak Al-Hamad Al- Sabah, said the bodies should complete financial and techni- cal measures to select “a stra- tegic partner and international operator” to manage the hospi- tal, a statement by the Cabinet said. His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sa- bah attended and patronized last Wednesday the opening of Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Hospital. The main building of the hos- pital consists of five towering 10-stories structures built on a 220,000 square meters area. The hospital bed capacity reached around 1,168 with 36 op- eration rooms, a medical center, a helipad and a parking lot accom- modating some 5,000 vehicles. The Cabinet, meanwhile, wel- comed a 1.5 million Kuwaiti di- nars donation by Hind Abdullah Al-Shalfan to establish a hospital to be named after Amnah Abdul- lah Al-Shalfan. Minister of Commerce and Industry Khaled Al-Roudhan briefed the Cabinet about the level of e-services in government sec- tor, and the government sought to address shortcomings either through solving hurdles or pun- ishing officials failing to meet ex- pectations. The government ministers however welcomed a visit by Fayez Al-Sarraj, president of the Libyan government of national accord, to Kuwait tomorrow. KUWAIT CITY, Dec 3, (KUNA): United Nations Resident Coordina- tor and UNDP Resident Represent- ative Kuwait Tarek Elsheikh an- nounced Monday the conclusion of implementing a project for Kuwait 2035 Vision towards persons with disabilities, jointly with UNDP and Public Authority of the Disabled. Elsheikh made the announce- ment during a ceremony held by the authority at the UN headquarters, marking the International Day of Disabled, which focuses this year on “Empowering persons with dis- abilities and ensuring inclusiveness and equality”. The completion of this project aims to enhance opportunities for the integration of persons with disabili- ties in life and community activities and to ensure their participation in Kuwait’s efforts to achieve sustain- able development, Elsheikh said. For her part, Director General of the Authority, Dr Shafeeqa Al- Awadhi said highest quality stand- ards have been achieved in the programs of early intervention, education, and giving persons with disabilities easy access to buildings and modern technologies. The partnership with UNDP and the Supreme Council for Planning and Development has achieved re- markable results in the development of capacities at the level of institu- tions and individuals, which leads to the development of more efficient procedures to accelerate the full in- tegration of persons with disabilities in the workplace, study, health care and other community facilities, she added. A range of standards has been issued to regulate and identify areas of support in education for people with disabilities to enable persons with disabilities to take ad- vantage of modern technology and digital devices as part of initiatives to achieve their full integration, she added. Al-Awadhi appreciated the role of partnership with UNDP as an important factor in improving the situation of people with disabilities in all aspects of life. More than 42,000 people with disabilities have been registered in Kuwait, as the Authority is keen to continue its efforts to develop the quality of services provided. The Authority allocated its 2018-2019 budget worth KD 171 million to provide people with disabilities nec- essary care.
