School Information
Absences
Daily absences can be rung through to the School
Absence Line 5431 6160 on the morning of the
absence, or send a note to the class teacher
stating the reason for the absence. Please ensure
all absences are explained.
Children arriving late to school, after 8.50am, are
to collect a ‘Late Arrival’ slip from the office.
If your child will miss school for 10 or more
consecutive days, they may be eligible for an
exemption. Please contact the office to discuss
this further.
Absenteeism is noted on each child’s report card.
Accidents & sickness
Minor injuries to children (e.g. small cuts, grazes)
are treated by staff members. In more serious
cases, an ambulance will be called and parents
contacted. Students are covered for ambulance
travel during school hours and while attending
school activities.
If children report sick to the office or have
suffered injury, parents are contacted promptly.
We strive to take the best care of your children.
The National Health and Medical Research
Council (NHMRC) provide recommended periods
of exclusion from school for cases of and contact
with infectious diseases. (Refer Appendix 1).
It is absolutely essential that parent contact
details are kept up to date, especially in the case
of an emergency or illness of a child.
Allergies
If your child has any allergies, it is important you
notify the school. Together a plan will be made to
manage preventing the situation and deal with
any possible allergic reactions.
Appointments
Parents seeking interviews with members of the
Administrative Team or Teaching Staff, should
contact the Administrative Officer to make
arrangements for an appointment. This practice
allows us to plan a time suitable to both parties.
Teaching staff should not be approached by
parents during teaching sessions. Matters of an
urgent nature must go through the office.
Arrival / dismissal
Children should come directly to school and are
encouraged to arrive at school by 8:30am, but no
earlier than 8:00am. Children who arrive prior to
8:30am are required to sit in the Large or Junior
Undercover area. Children must not leave the
school grounds once they have entered the
grounds in the morning.
The school day finishes at 3:00 pm. All children
should be out of the school grounds by 3:15pm,
unless catching a bus. Children should travel
directly home via the shortest practical route.
Children travelling by bus must wait with the staff
member on bus duty.
Assemblies
Assemblies are held in the hall each week on
Thursday afternoon at 2.15pm alternating
between Prep-Yr2 and Yr 3-6 students. Prep
students join assembly from Term 2.
Parents are always welcome to attend as this is
where most achievement awards and weekly
messages are presented.
Attendance
Regular attendance is necessary for satisfactory
progress to be made, therefore parents must
ensure that their child/ren regularly attend
school. All parents/caregivers are expected to
ensure that their children arrive no later than
8:50am when learning begins.
To ensure that a student’s opportunity to learn is
not impaired, the school carefully monitors
absenteeism.
Banking
School Banking is each Friday and is coordinated
by the P&C at Caboolture East SS. Information is
available for new students to join the banking
program from the office.
Behaviour management & bullying
Caboolture East State School has developed a
School Responsible Behaviour Plan for Students
outlining the school rules, expectations and
consequences for positive and negative
behaviours. This plan is available on our website,
for perusal.
We ask all parents to support this plan, by
reinforcing the requirements through their
instruction to children about their behaviour.
School/home cooperation is important for the
success of this policy.
Our Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL)
framework is designed to help create a climate of
cooperation, academic excellence, respect and
safety at Caboolture East State School. Our three
school rules are:
Be Safe
Be Respectful
Be a Learner
We expect children to behave in a respectful
manner toward each other, staff and community
members. We believe all children have a right to
learn, teachers have a right to teach and
everyone has the right to be safe at Caboolture
East State School.
Any parents concerned about behaviour issues or
bullying are encouraged to speak directly with
staff or the Principal.

are not allowed on verandahs or in classrooms
unless supervised by their teacher. Before and
after school, children are NOT allowed on any
playground equipment.
Books & stationery
For your convenience, parents are encouraged to
use the Student Resource Scheme. This is a very
economical and convenient method of
purchasing all your child’s class requirements
while ensuring that your child has all the correct
equipment in readiness for the new school year.
Parents who choose to participate pay $100 per
child which includes all stationary, books,
consumables for art and science and a range of
electronic resources.
Brain break
Each day, students are encouraged to eat a small
healthy snack during the morning session to
assist with their thinking. Fruit or vegetables are
the best choice for this time.
Bus services
Official bus services operate at this school.
Parents who wish their children to travel to or
from school by bus, can obtain further
information by contacting the appropriate bus
company.
Caboolture Bus Lines – 5495 46744
Kangaroo Bus Lines – 5498 6466 5
Our school supports the Queensland Government
“Bus Code of Conduct” enforced by our local bus
services. If you would like to find out about bus
services please contact the local bus companies.
Contact details
Please advise the school of any changes in
contact details eg address, telephone numbers,
or other information as they occur. This
information is updated on our database.
It is essential that necessary changes be recorded
especially in the case of an emergency or illness
of a child.
Cash Collection
The collection of money is necessary for the
"extras" such as camps, excursions, sport and Arts
Council.
In cases of financial hardship, do not hesitate to
contact the Principal, as suitable and confidential
arrangements can be made.
Money should always be placed in a well-sealed
envelope, marked with name, year level, amount
and purpose. All families are encouraged to use
the following procedure when sending payments
to the school.
You may use ONE envelope to cover payment for
a range of activities, and for different children in
your family. The only exceptions to this are
canteen orders and fundraising, which need to be
kept separate to school payments. Payment may
be in cash, cheque or via EFTPOS.
Complaints and concerns
Effective partnerships between parents, students
and our school are important to educational
success.
One part of that partnership is trust and
openness. We need to be able to talk to each
other when we have concerns, so that these
issues can be worked out. From time to time you
may have concerns or complaints relating to our
school. It is important that you share these with
us. We are committed to dealing positively with
your concern. In the first instance, please discuss
concerns with the class teacher. If you need
further assistance, please make an appointment
with the Deputy Principal or Principal.
A copy of the guidelines for complaints
management is attached (Refer Appendix 1).
Curriculum
Caboolture East State School offers
developmental programs from Prep to 6 in the
following areas:
• Mathematics
• English
• Science
• History
• Geography
• Health & Physical Education
• The Arts
• LOTE - Chinese (Yr 5 – 6)
• Technology
• ICT (Information Communication Technology)
Custody/Parental Orders
On occasion it may be necessary to act on
custody information held in our school files. It is
extremely important that both the Principal and
class teacher/s are informed when concerns
surround custody issues so that the school, if
required, can record appropriate information. It is
also important that this information remains
current and is supported by current
documentation. If a change occurs regarding the
custodial information of your child/ren, please
report this to the office in person or in writing. If
necessary, the Principal will meet or contact you
to clarify these changes.
Dental service
The School Dental Service offers a quality, free
oral health program to all children and visits the
school on a rotational basis with other local
schools. General information and inquiries
regarding the School Dental Service or for dental
conditions that require emergency care, contact
1300 300 850.
Departure from school
Once at school, children are not permitted to
leave the school grounds without permission.
‘Every day counts’. Children are required by law
to attend school for the designated length of the
school day. Occasionally you may need to request
early departure for your child(ren) eg. specialist
appointment. If this is necessary, it would be
helpful if parents/carers could advise their child
that they will be collected from school early and
send a note to the teacher.
Parents/Carers are required to call at the office
and request the early departure of the child/ren,
sign the Early Departure Register, and be issued
with an ‘Early Departure’ slip to present to the
class teacher, who will then hand over the care of
the child to the parent/carer. (Children will not be
dismissed early from class without the
presentation of the slip). Please allow sufficient
time to follow the procedure and locate your
child(ren).
Once they are dismissed at 3:00pm, students are
to proceed home according to parental
instructions. In the event of this arrangement not
occurring, students are required to report to the
office so that contact with parents can be made.
Prep students are required to be collected
directly from the classroom by a parent, carer,
older sibling or Before/After school care staff.
Dogs in school grounds
Government policy bans dogs from school
grounds. If you walk a dog to/from school, please
secure it outside the fence and away from
entry/exit points.
Emergency Procedures
Each semester the school will practice an
Emergency Evacuation drill and a Lockdown drill
to familiarize staff and students of the
procedures required in the event of an
emergency.
An evacuation occurs when there is a need to exit
the school in a timely manner e.g. fire, bomb
threat, earthquake or chemical spill.
A lockdown occurs when it is clearly unsafe for
anyone to be walking on the school grounds e.g.
a suspicious-looking or dangerous person, a
dangerous animal or bad weather, etc.
Excursions
Children will be invited to participate in
excursions or in-school activities at various times
throughout the year. Excursions are an integral
part of school life and geared towards enhancing
the learning experience. Camp is offered to
students in Year 6. Parents will be given early
notification, by written communication, of
forthcoming excursions or in-school activities.
Every effort is made to keep expenses to a
minimum. A payment plan scheme is available to
assist families to pay for these activities. Please
see the Principal for assistance.
A permission form, covering students leaving the
school grounds, is required from all
parents/carers.
7
Head lice
It is recognised that outbreaks of head lice occur
from time to time at our school. Part of our
health program includes education about, and a
general awareness of, head lice. You will be
advised if outbreaks occur. Please check your
child/ren’s hair regularly. Should you find lice or
eggs, please advise the school. If lice are found,
please ensure all live lice and eggs are removed,
and careful follow-up checks are made.
Healthy lunch
Three special times are set aside each day for
children to sit and eat together – first break,
second break and healthy snack.
We encourage students and parents to pack a
healthy lunch each day for school. This should
include all five food groups. The best choices for
school lunches include sandwiches, fruit,
vegetables, yogurt and cheese.
Packaged food should be kept to a minimum.
As children eat with their teacher and at
Caboolture East, students will be monitored to
ensure they make the best food choices to assist
their brain and body growth. A fridge is available
in all classrooms that students are welcome to
use. Please label lunch to avoid confusion.
Homework
Homework gives students the opportunity to
build upon their class work and involve family
members in their learning. To help find a balance
between family life and helping students reach
their full potential, Caboolture East State School
sets a maximum 30 mins per night across four
weekdays for Yr 1-6.
The type of homework may vary, but you are
assured that teachers carefully consider the
amount and content of home tasks. We
understand that some children may experience
genuine difficulty with homework. By all means,
help if possible, but if frustration becomes
evident, the most appropriate action is to contact
the class teacher in an attempt to improve
matters.
Please show an interest in your child's home
studies and in other work done at school. Talk
about your child's school work and encourage
efforts made. Your participation is of great
importance and will certainly develop positive
and confident study habits and attitudes.
Illness
THE RULE IS: WELL ENOUGH TO BE AT SCHOOL
OR SICK ENOUGH TO BE AT HOME. In the
interests of all children, your child should not be
sent to school when sick. Should your child
become ill at school, our response will be to
contact you at home or work and request they be
collected. It is absolutely essential that we be
able to contact you. Please ensure at all times we
have up-to-date home and work numbers and the
numbers of one or two friends or relatives who
can be contacted if we are unable to contact you.
Library
Children are encouraged to regularly borrow
books from the Resource Centre, to care for them
and to return them promptly. The Resource
Centre will be open at lunchtimes, and most days
before school under the supervision of a staff
member. To borrow, all children must have a
library bag. Students will borrow as a class group
each week on an allocated borrowing day.
Lost property
Please ensure that ALL of your child's clothes,
lunchbox, etc. are clearly named. A lost property
box will be available for unnamed items. This is
located outside the office. Please note that lost
property is completely cleared once per term and
unclaimed, un-named items are recycled through
the school or donated to local charities.
Medication
On occasions it may be necessary for parents to
request medication be administered at school.
Parents MUST supply a note with the medication
and complete a medication administering
authority form available from the school office.
ALL medicines (including over the counter
medications such as Panadol) must show on the
container the child’s name, the doctor’s or
pharmacist’s name and quantities to be
administered. Medication is to be administered
by office staff. A medical register is kept in the
office.
Meet the Teacher
Parents will be invited to meet with teachers
early in Term 1 to give parents the opportunity
share information about their child/ren and for
teachers to share classroom programs,
organization and expectations. Appointment
times will be advertised early in Term 1.
Messages
Teachers are not to be interrupted during
teaching time, therefore urgent/important
messages to children via the office should be kept
to a minimum, especially in the afternoon when it
may be difficult to pass them on by school end.
Mobile Phones and other electronic
devices
Mobile phones may be brought to school but
must be switched off and signed into the office
on arrival at school. Mobile phones are not to be
used during school hours. No responsibility will
be taken for any mobile phone not handed in to
the office. No other electronic devices (including
ipods, MP3s, nintendos) are to be brought to
school.
Newsletters
Caboolture East State School newsletter is
published fortnightly and is accessible via email
and school website
www.cabooltureeastss.eq.edu.au.
Please take the time to read the newsletter, as
much vital information is provided to keep
parents up to date on the learning and events at
school.
P&C Association
The P&C will meet each month on the third
Tuesday of each month at 6.00pm in the
Resource Centre. The Annual General Meeting
will be held each March to elect positions.
Everyone is welcome to attend and we would be
delighted if new parents could join us at these
meetings. 9
Parent helpers
From time to time teachers may invite parents to
assist with activities in the classroom. Such
activities may include listening to children read,
preparing card activities, helping with arts and
crafts, accompanying a group on a trip and other
such valuable tasks.
The only qualifications necessary are a willingness
to help, and an interest in your child's education.
All voluntary aides are required to sign in at the
school office or the classroom, and to wear a
visitor’s badge while on the school premises.
Courses are occasionally offered to assist parents
volunteering in classrooms.
Parents in the school
All contact with
students during school
hours MUST be via the
school office. Visitors
and parents are not to
go directly to
classrooms. Please
keep such visits to
emergencies.
Occasionally, children
at school can
sometimes find
themselves in a dispute with their “friends”. If
your child is coming home upset or concerned
about a conflict with a classmate, please contact
the class teacher to have the matter seen to. If
this fails, please feel free to contact a Deputy
Principal or Principal, and we can endeavour to
“put things right”.
No matter how well intentioned, parents are
asked to refrain from attempting to solve
classroom or playground disputes by becoming
involved in dealing with other children – inside or
outside the school grounds. All children have the
right to feel safe in our school, and confrontation
by adults, either physical or verbal, does little to
solve any problems.
We understand parent’s concern for their
children, but please be aware that it is our duty to
look after all children, and parents who overstep
the defined boundaries can expect to have action
taken against them.
Personal Property
All personal items and clothing should be clearly
marked with your child’s name to ensure that if
lost, the owner can be readily identified. Such
marking may need to be done several times a
year to be effective.
Expensive items, including jewellery, games and
toys, are not allowed to be brought to school. No
responsibility can be taken if such items, brought
to school by a child, are lost, damaged or stolen.
Children should take responsible care for any
monies brought to school.
The following items must not be brought to
school:
• Chewing/bubble gum
• Matches, lighters
• Explosive caps
• Toy weapons (particularly those which fire
projectiles)
• Skateboards, roller skates, roller blades and
rip sticks.
• Dangerous items such as knives, guns etc
• Illicit substances, including alcohol, tobacco
and drugs are prohibited.
Reception
Our office will be attended between 8:00am and
3:30pm. Our staff will be happy to assist you with
any requests or inquiries or make appointments
for you to see the Principal. Phone calls can be
made between 8:15am and 3:30pm. Messages
outside these hours can be left on our answering
machine and we will return your call as soon as
possible.
School Chaplain
Our school community with the assistance of the
Australian Government provides a Chaplaincy
service to our community. The Chaplain is at our
school 4 days each week and is available to
provide support to all members of our school
community – children, parents and staff.
Security
Permission is required to be on the school’s
premises after hours. Parent/carers are actively
discouraged from being in the school grounds
after school and on week-ends. Unauthorised use
of the school grounds is trespassing. It is
important that all community members are
aware of the importance of “School Watch”. Any
Suspicious behaviour or noises at the school after
hours should be reported.
Remember to LOOK, LISTEN and REPORT any such
activity. School Watch phone number is 13 17 88
Sports Teams
House teams are organised for sports and general
competitions. Your child is placed in one of these
four houses on enrolment and will remain in that
house for his/her time at the school. The house
names, colour and their meaning are:
King (green) – is the name of one of the earliest
settler families in the Caboolture area
Archer (blue) - the first family to settle in this
district, at Durander, west of Woodford in the
1840’s
Turrabool (purple) – is believed to the Aboriginal
name for Toorbul
Yarun (red) – was the name of an Aboriginal tribe
on Bribie Island Students are encouraged to wear t-shirts of their
house colour at sports events.
Student Leadership Program
School Captains, Indigenous Leaders, House
Captains and Active Leaders are selected by a
process overseen by the Principal and Deputy
Principals in consultation with school staff.
All school leaders are inducted at a special
ceremony, pledging to fulfil the duties and
responsibilities of their position of honour.
The Active Leaders program is designed to
provide younger students with the opportunity to
learn and develop skills in physical activity while
encouraging and developing confidence, self-
esteem and organizational skills in students who
participate as leaders.
The objectives of the Active Leaders is to:
• Provide a positive environment for younger
students to participate in physical activity;
• Provide an opportunity for leaders to gain
valuable life skills through sport, fitness,
outdoor recreation and other areas of
activity;
• Encourage positive social interaction between
the upper school and students in the lower
classes
• Develop a healthy, physical activity culture at
Caboolture East.
Swimming Program
Swimming lessons are part of the Caboolture East
Health and Physical Education program for
students in Prep - Year 3 and all students are
required to participate. If a student is ill, a note
will need to be forwarded to the class teacher.
Swimming will take place in Term 4 at a local
swim school with qualified instructors.
Students will be transported by bus to the pool.
Smoking
Education Queensland has a total ban on all
smoking in all educational facilities. The ban aims
to provide employees and school families with a
healthier school environment.
Student Support
The services of a
Learning Support
Teacher, Guidance
Officer and Special
Education Teachers
are available for
children in need.
For students
diagnosed with a disability by a paediatric
medical specialist or senior guidance officer,
additional education adjustments are provided by
classroom teaching staff and teachers in the
Special Education Program. Caboolture East’s
policy ensures all students are included in
classroom programs.
11
Additional services may be provided to meet
students with disabilities needs by the Advisory
Visiting Teachers for Autistic Spectrum Disorder,

Treasures from home
Toys and trinkets from home very often become
lost or broken at school, so it saves a lot of time
and heartache if these are left at home.
Any toys that find their way to school will be
cared for by the teacher or at the office until the
end of the day. Staff cannot assume responsibility
for any loss or breakages.
Transport Considerations
Students riding bikes to school are requested to
walk their bikes or scooter once they enter the
school grounds and to the bike rack.
We ask parents to respect the SPEED ZONES
surrounding our school and be on the lookout for
students as they walk, ride and scooter to school.
Parents should ensure that children who are
supposed to walk or ride home should do so
promptly and not linger after school. Staff are
rostered to supervise students catching the
afternoon bus and the stop, drop and go area.
Students are expected to follow acceptable codes
of behaviour while waiting for parents and buses.
Uniform Code
Caboolture East State School has a Uniform Code
outlining expectations. If, for any reasons, your
child is not able to wear a school uniform,
parents/carers are expected to discuss with the
Principal.
Our school is a Sun Smart School and requires the
wearing of protective clothing including
appropriate hats when in the sun during the
school day. Students must wear a hat EVERY day
during outdoor activities eg PE and at lunch
breaks. Students who forget their hat must go to
an undercover area during the breaks.
Jewellery: For reasons relating to health, safety,
security and appearance, boys and girls are
permitted to wear the following jewellery items:
• One pair of studs or sleepers only (other
body piercing is inappropriate for a school
worksite)
• One watch.
• A medical identification tag in the form of
a necklace or a bracelet.
One item of neck jewellery may only be worn if it
is of cultural or religious significance and it must
be long enough to be tucked out of sight under
the school shirt.
These items are the responsibility of the student
and the school accepts no
responsibility for loss or damage.
Facial Jewellery:
• Facial jewellery is not allowed at any
time, including the healing time for new
piercings. (Students should not have
piercings completed which will require
them to wear facial jewellery to school
during the healing period.)

Making a complaint
Information for parents and carers
During the course of your child’s school years, you may
have cause to make a complaint about an issue or
concern you have with their education.
The Department of Education and Training is committed
to ensuring that all complaints are dealt with in a fair
and equitable manner.
There are processes and support networks in place to
enable you and your child to work through any issues or
concerns you may have. To achieve an effective
resolution for all parties, when making your complaint,
you should ensure you:
• Provide complete and factual information in a
timely manner
• Deliver your complaint in a calm and reasoned
manner
• Avoid making frivolous or vexatious complaints or
using deliberately false or misleading information.
You should be aware that if you are making a complaint
about a staff member that, in most instances, the staff
member will be told of the complaint and offered the
right of reply. You also have the right to have a support
person participate throughout the process.
The following four-step procedure is in place to assist
parents/carers and school staff to reach an outcome that
is in the best interest of the student.
1. Discuss your complaint with the class teacher
If your complaint is with your child’s teacher or relates to
an issue concerning your child’s experience at school,
make an appointment with that teacher as soon as
possible through the school administration. Discuss your
complaint with the teacher and give the teacher an
opportunity to suggest a solution. The teacher will make
a record of your complaint and report your meeting and
any outcomes to the school principal. Together, both
you and your child’s teacher should be able to resolve
the problem at this level.
2. Discuss your complaint with the Deputy Principal or
Principal
If after approaching your child’s teacher your complaint
remains unresolved, make an appointment to see the
relevant Deputy Principal or school Principal to discuss
the issue further.
Alternatively, you and the teacher may agree to ask the
principal to act as a go-between in informal conflict
resolution in an attempt to resolve the problem.
If your complaint relates to more general school matters,
including issues of school policy and issues of compliance
or non-compliance, you should raise your complaint
directly with the principal or their delegate. The principal
may refer your complaint to a delegate. The principal
may refer your complaint to a delegate such as the
deputy principal of Business Services Manager. The staff
member will make a record of your complaint and work
with you to come to a resolution.
Complaints to the principal may be lodges in person, by
telephone, writing or via email.
3. Contact your local education office
If you have discussed your complaint with the principal
and still feel that you have not reached a resolution, you
have the right to contact your local Department of
Education and Training office.
Complaints may be lodged by telephone or in writing.
Your complaint should be specific in detail and outline
the steps you have taken to resolve the issue. Ensure
your complaint includes your full name and address and
that you have signed and dated it. It is also a good idea
to keep a copy for your own records.
Anonymous complaints will only be acted on if enough
information has been provided to allow for follow-up
with the relevant school principal.
When you contact your local education office a record
will be made of your complaint. You will also be advised
that your name and the nature of your complaint will be
reported back to the principal of your school to seek a
resolution.
Addresses and telephone numbers for the Department
of Education and Training offices are listed in the White
Pages of your local telephone directory and are also
available through the Schools Directory at
www.education.qld.gov.au/directory.
4. Independent review
If you have not been able to resolve your complaint
through these formal processes, you can lodge your
complaint with the Queensland Ombudsman. The
Ombudsman may be contacted at:
Office of the Ombudsman
GPO Box 3314, Brisbane, Qld 4001
Email: [email protected]
Telephone (07) 3005 7000 or
Toll Free 1800 068 908
Fax (07) 3005 7067
The role of Parents and Citizens’ Associations (P&C’s)
It is understandable that parents or carers may
sometimes feel overwhelmed when approaching a
school or the department with a complaint. While the
Queensland Council of Parents and Citizens’ Associations
Inc (QCPCA) does not advocate on behalf of individual
parents or carers, individuals can request their own
P&C to provide support in these circumstances. The P&C
can in turn seek assistance from QCPCA to provide
guidance in resolving the complaint.
Complaints about services that are run or managed by
the P&C at your school, for example after school care or
the tuckshop, should be directed to the P&C in the first
instance.
