Blended Learning• A number of generic competencies and
theory based sessions can be delivered and assessed using online methods.
• The practical skills would still be delivered and assessed “face to face”.
Virtual ClassroomThe following tools could be used to enhance the learning of students:
• Video – the key points from all course sessions can be housed online. The benefit being that students who miss face to face classes can view.
Virtual Classroom• Audio – podcasts of sessions can be made
available to download so students can listen in their own time.
• Worksheets – this can reduce printing costs and reduce the size of the course manual.
• Websites – links to reputable websites that can enhance learning can be made readily available.
Virtual Classroom• Discussion Forums – offer a chance to
enhance community with students being able to interact with each other. Tutors could make themselves available at specific times to respond to questions.
Learning StylesI have chosen 2 learning styles to discuss.• Active Learners – learn by doing and love
group work.• Reflective Learners – learn by thinking
things through first and prefer to work alone.“We are all a combination of both styles, however one of these styles will be predominant”.
Learning StylesPractical Application – Active Learner:
• A discussion forum would be an example of an online tool that can be added to enhance the learning experience of
an active learner. The role of the tutor may be to moderate the forum and answer questions.
Learning StylesPractical Application – Reflective Learner:
• Watching a video or listening to a podcast again would enhance the learning experience for a reflective learner. The role of the presenter is to upload quality materials that incentivise using these tools.
Role of the Presenter• Ensure all students have access to a
computer and the internet.• Clearly explain how to use technology in
multiple formats, i.e. verbal, written, video.
• Explain the reasons for using technology is to enhance the learning experience.
• Give students preferred contact details and time availability to give assistance.
