    3. COMPRESSOR PISTON RODS 0.002 Per Inch of Rod O.D. is Maximum Undersize or wear.

    4. COMPRESSOR PISTONS

    A) RING GROOVES - Pistons for cylinder bores of 8'' and under, 0.003 and for Pistons above 8'' use 0.005 is max.

    wear where the use of standard rings is still acceptable. Over this amount of wear, piston grooves should be

    metalized back to standard or machined out to next 0.032 and rings made for new width.

    B) PISTON O.D. - Standard clearance for Cast Iron piston is 0.0015 per inch of cylinder bore plus 0.005

    Example: 8'' bore X 0.0015 = 0.012 + 0.005 = 0.017 clearance

    For Aluminum Piston it is 0.003 per inch of cylinder bore Example: 8'' bore X 0.003 = 0.024 clearance

    IF Piston wear is greater than the 0.020, over max clearance one of the following alternatives should be used:

    1) Fabricate new piston to standard clearance. 2) Install rider bands on piston to compensate for wear.

    5. COMPRESSOR CYLINDER

    IF wear is greater than 0.015,on cyl. standard rings should not be used one of the following alternatives should be used:

    1) Reline cylinder to standard

    2) Bore cylinder to next 1/16" and fabricate new oversize piston.

    3) Install rider bands on existing piston.

  • STARTING AND LOADING INSTRUCTIONS

    #1 CHECK CONTROL PANEL FOR CAUSE OF SHUTDOWN AND CORRECT ANY PROBLEMS OR FAULTS FOUND.

    #2 CAUTION: A GAS/AIR MIXTURE UNDER PRESSURE CAN EXPLODE VIOLENTLY!

    THE UNIT MUST BE PURGED OF ANY AIR BEFORE STARTING. THIS IS ESPECIALLY TRUE IF ANY WORK

    INSIDE THE COMPRESSOR HAS BEEN PERFORMED. THE PURGING OF THE UNIT IS ACCOMPLISHED AS

    FOLLOWS: OPEN THE BLOW DOWN VALVE THEN OPEN THE INLET (SUCTION) VALVE. NOT FULL OPEN

    JUST GET A GOOD BLOW OUT OF THE BLOW DOWN VALVE (LEAVE VALVES OPEN FOR NOW)

    #3 SET THE SPEED CONTROL TO THE MINIMUM SETTING. THIS REDUCES UNNECESSARY WEAR AND

    ELIMINATES FALSE SHUTDOWNS ATTRIBUTED TO OVER SPEED.

    #4 MANUALLY PRELUBE THE COMPRESSOR ABOUT 25 STROKES SHOULD BE ADEQUATE

    #5 SET THE TIMER FOR 5 MINUTES PUSH THE RESET BUTTON ON THE ANNUNCIATOR. THIS WILL BYPASS

    ALL CLASS (B) SHUTDOWNS FOR STARTING. THE ANNUNCIATOR SHOULD HAVE "00" IN WINDOW. IF THE

    WINDOW SHOWS ANY NUMBER OTHER THAN "00" YOU MUST TRACE SHUTDOWN AND CORRECT PROBLEM

    BEFORE UNIT WILL START. CLASS (A) SHUTDOWNS DO NOT RUN THROUGH THE TIMER.

    #6 AFTER DETERMINING THAT THERE ARE NO PROBLEMS WITH THE UNIT, RESET THE FUEL VALVE AND PUSH

    THE START BUTTON. IF THE ENGINE HAS NOT STARTED IN ABOUT 15 TO 20 SECONDS, RELEASE THE START

    BUTTON. RECHECK ALL SHUTDOWNS (ESPECIALLY VIBRATION & LEVELS) AND TRY AGAIN.

    #7 IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE UNIT STARTS UP CHECK THE ENGINE & COMPRESSOR OIL PRESSURES. IF THE

    OIL PRESSURE DOES NOT COME UP IN 10 TO 15 SECONDS, SHUTDOWN THE UNIT AND FIND OUT THE

    PROBLEM. !!REMEMBER THAT AS LONG AS THE TIMER IA ACTIVE THE CLASS (B) SHUTDOWNS WILL BE

    BYPASSED. THIS INCLUDES ALL LOW PRESSURE SHUTDOWNS!! ALLOW THE UNIT TO WARM UP UNTIL THE.

    ENGINE JACKET WATER TEMP IS APPROXIMATELY 135 DEGREES. IT MAY BE NECESSARY TO RESET TIMER

    UNTIL UNIT IS READY TO LOAD. IT IS BEST TO MONITOR THE OIL PRESSURES WHILE THE UNIT IS WARMING.

    #8 ENGINE HAS REACHED 135 DEGREES AND UNIT HAS BEEN "LOOKED OVER", IT IS READY TO BE LOADED

    THE LOADING SEQUENCE IS: A. BE SURE THAT THE BYPASS, BLOW DOWN, & DISCHARGE BLOCK

    VALVE ARE OPEN

    B. INCREASE THE RPM TO DESIRED SPEED

    C. SLIGHTLY OPEN THE SUCTION BLOCK VALVE AND ALLOW THE UNIT

    TO PURGE

    D. CLOSE UNIT BYPASS (IF AVAILABLE) CONTINUE TO ALLOW UNIT TO PURGE

    E. SLOWLY OPEN SUCTION BLOCK VALVE FULLY

    F. CLOSE THE UNIT BLOW DOWN AFTER UNIT HAS PURGED COMPLETELY

    THIS UNIT SHOULD NOW BE AT THE DESIRED RPM & LOAD. REMEMBER TO RECHECK KILL SETTING AND

    LIQUID LEVELS, AND GAS FLOW BEFORE LEAVING UNIT. FINAL CHECK YOU SHOULD ENSURE THAT THE

    TIMER IS SET TO "0" AND THE ANNUNCIATOR HAS "01" IN THE WINDOW. NOW GO TO NEXT UNIT!!!!

    UNIT SHUTDOWN INSTRUCTIONS

    #1 ALLOW THE UNIT TO COOL DOWN AT REDUCED SPEED & LOAD FOR 2 TO 5 MINUTES ( IF POSSIBLE ).

    #2 KILL THE UNIT BY TRIPPING ONE OF THE SHUTDOWN END DEVICES. THIS PROVIDES A FUNCTIONAL

    CHECK OF THE SHUTDOWN SYSTEM.

    #3 ISOLATE THE UNIT BY CLOSING THE SUCTION AND DISCHARGE BLOCK VALVES. WITH THE UNIT ISOLATED,

    IT SHOULD BE COMPLETELY DEPRESSURIZED BEFORE ATTEMPTING MAINTENANCE ARE REPAIRS BY

    OPENING THE VENT ( BLOW DOWN ) VALVE..

    so you know it on #1 compression stroke. Watching flywheel markings and ajust in firing order, if

    unit has a fuel valve it to can be ajusted with intake and exhaust valve.

    NOTES

    Ignition and valve timing in cranckshaft degrees. Intake opens at 14 deg. After top center. Exhaust closes at 2 deg.

    after center. (Check above angles, for camshaft timing purposes only, with .125" valve lash. Check valve events at

    point where lash is just taken up. Note pushrodwill not run)

    Ignition timing: at 1000 - 1100 BTU gas, at 700 RPM 30 deg. At 900 RPM 35 deg
