POLICY ON ACADEMIC HONESTY
1. All students / faculty members / staff members /stakeholders of the Periyar Maniammai University areexpected to do their work themselves in order to earn theacademic credits. The University upholds academic honestyand integrity in all the spheres of its activity.
2. Students who resort to unfair activities such as copying fromthe original work of others or seeking the help of others forcompleting their assignments or indulging in malpracticesin examinations or tests or other evaluations are considereddishonest.
3. Also, allowing others to copy from one's work, or permittingsomeone else to use one's work for earning academic creditsare academic dishonesty.
4. Causing hindrances or obstacles to a faculty member /student or preventing her / him from realizing theiracademic goals / aspirations in their pursuit of researchand scholarly activities are academic dishonesty.
5. Any evidence of academic dishonesty among its studentswill entail them to lose all marks in the assignment orexamination, or subject them to more stringent penalties,besides their names being notified to the Office of theDean(Academics) for inclusion in their confidential records.
6. This policy is to uphold the reputation of the University forthe benefit of its students, faculty members and otherstakeholders.

WHAT CONSTITUTES RAGGING
Ragging constitutes one or more of any of the following acts
a. Any conduct by any student or students whether by wordsspoken or written or by an act which has the effect of teasing,treating or handling with rudeness a fresher or any otherstudent;
b. Indulging in rowdy or in disciplined activities by any studentor students which causes or is likely to cause annoyance,hardship, physical or psychological harm or to raise fear orapprehension thereof in any fresher or any other student;
c. Asking any student to do any act which such student will notin the ordinary course do and which has the effect of causingor generating a sense of shame, or torment or embarrassmentso as to adversely affect the physique or psyche of such fresheror any other student;
d. Any act by a senior student that prevents, disrupts or disturbsthe regular academic activity of any other student or a fresher;
e. Exploiting the service of a fresher or any other student forcompleting the academic tasks assigned to an individual or agroup of students;
f. Any act of financial extortion or forceful expenditure burdenput on a fresher or any other student by student;
g. Any act of physical abuse including all variants of it:sexualabuse, homosexual assaults, stripping, forcing obscene and lewdacts, gestures, causing bodily harm or any other danger to healthor person;
h. Any act or abuse by spoken words, e-mails , post , public insultswhich would also include deriving perverted pleasure, vicariousthrill from actively or passively participating in the discomfitureto fresher or any other student;
i. Any act that affects the mental health and self confidence of afresher or any other student with or without an intent to derivea sadistic pleasure or showing off power, authority orsuperiority by a student over any fresher or any other student.

BRIEF HISTORY OF THE UNIVERSITY
Periyar Maniammai University has had its origin from PeriyarManiammai College of Technology for Women established in 1988, by PeriyarManiammai Educational and Charitable Society, Chennai-7. Named afterthe great social reformer of the twentieth century, E.V. Ramasamy, fondlyknown as Thanthai Periyar and his philanthropic wife Annai Maniammaiyar,the Periyar Maniammai College of Technology for Women has its credit ofbeing the first Women’s Engineering College in the world. The primary objectof the college was on institutionalizing the lofty ideals of Periyar by pavingthe way for women’s emancipation by providing increased access to highereducation in Science and Technology and encouraging their participation insocial, national and global development.
The College was started with the approval of All India Council forTechnical Education, New Delhi and affiliation to Bharathidasan University,Tiruchirapalli, Tamil Nadu. Later, it started functioning under affiliation toAnna University, Chennai from 2001.
The College has made several landmark achievements continuously inthe field of Technical Education, and in the areas of Women Empowermentand Social Development since inception. In addition to the under graduate,postgraduate and doctoral programmes in Humanities, Science, Engineering,Architecture and Technology, it has rendered a yeoman service in the area ofhealth and hygiene for rural people and provided viable technology-inputsfor their social and economic well being.
Gone are days when women were discriminated against on gender bias.Thanthai Periyar wanted women to take up their right role in all walks of life.Women and Men are equal in all respects. Hence, Co-education is the need ofthe hour. In tune with this principle, the University has been offeringCo-education in all branches of learning.
Considering its academic excellence in teaching, research and extensionprogrammes and many socially relevant projects, the Government of India /MHRD had conferred the Status of University on the College under section 3of the UGC Act, 1956 on the recommendation of the UGC, New Delhi onAugust 17, 2007.

UNIVERSITY BUS - RULES AND REGULATIONS
1. Students should follow the dress code2. Boys have to wear full pants and shirts tucked in and formal
shoes. They are not allowed to wear safari, pyjamas, dhoti,stonewash pants and jeans.
3. Girls have to wear churidar with properly pinned thupattas orPant and Shirt. They are not allowed to wear miniskirt, midi,short churidar, sleeveless garments and tight pants
4. Students should keep their bus eco-friendly, neat and tidy.5. Students should always wear their own identity cards.6. Students are not permitted to use mobile phones in the bus or
play songs with laptop.7. Students shall not indulge in any undesirable activity and shall
maintain highest standard of discipline8. Possession or consumption of narcotic drugs, tobacco, alcohol
and other intoxicating substances are strictly prohibited in thebus.
9. Students are prohibited from indulging in anti-institutional, anti-national, anti-social, communal, immoral or political expressionsand activities in the bus.
10. Students shall not deface, disfigure, damage or destroy or causeany loss in any manner to or regarding public, private orUniversity properties.
11. Unauthorized entry of outsiders into the bus is strictlyprohibited.
12. No one shall exhibit any type of banners, flags, boards etc., insideor outside the bus.
13. Any conduct, which leads to lowering of the reputation of theUniversity is prohibited.
14. Students found travelling without paying fees will be punished15. Students are not permitted to enter or stay inside the bus during
class hours.16. Students shall not interfere with driver and other Staff. They
shall not seek any favours from the driver. They should informstaff i/c of the bus incase of any difference of opinion or anyinconvenience to the students.
17. Students are strictly not permitted to get down inbetween Stopsother than the University Stop and the Boarding point.
18. Any Complaints should be reported to the Student’s grievanceredressal committee.
The Periyar Maniammai University is located on a land area of 216 acres,which once were barren and dry and unfit for human habitation andagricultural cultivation in a typically rural area. This land has beentransformed into a land of thick foliages, green vegetation and a technology-hub. It is an energy efficient pollution-free, zero waste and well-laid campuswith an ambience for learning. By its location, the campus offers an idealenvironment for teaching, research and living. Though situated in a ruralsetting it has all the advantages of any urban location.
The University is situated at 10 km towards west from Thanjavur and 45km on the east from Tiruchirapalli and is easily accessible by road, rail andair. The institution has got accreditation from NBA since 1998 for selectedcourses. Further the University has got NAAC accreditation. The Universityhas also implemented the innovative examination pattern inline withEuropean Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS).
The Periyar Maniammai University is providing high quality educationat Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Doctoral levels in an environment thatpromotes innovation and creativity, scholarly pursuits by creating state-of-the-art infrastructure, employing competent faculty and committed supportstaff, world-class instructional and learning facilities, all driven by its values.It will reach out to the un-reached, explore new avenues of education tofulfill the knowledge and skill needs of the Nation, particularly of industries,business and social sectors.
The University shall be alive to the changing socio, techno-economicneeds of the nation, and with its futuristic outlook will deliver educationthat works and emerge as an institution of national importance. Inappreciation of the fact that the Universities are one of society’s key institutionsavailable today to respond to changing societal imperatives, the PeriyarManiammai University has worked on new road maps and made appropriatechanges in the role of University, based on intelligent redesign of its offeringsand enhancement of quality of its service, including the quality of the totalexperience of its scholars and teachers and stake-holders. It shall investigateand solve the most challenging, fundamental problems in many fields ofscience and technologies in a singularly congenial, interdisciplinaryatmosphere, while producing outstanding graduates to become creative

TheUniversity had signed MoU’s with several International, National andregional Institutions and Industries. This enables for Training and Placementof Students Globally.
Periyar Maniammai University (PMU) has established the PMU - BoschRexroth Centre of Excellence for Training and Research in AutomationTechnologies in collaboration with Bosch Rexroth. The uniqueness of thisinstitute lies in its state of the art technology, which has world classequipments, training kits, hardware, software and teaching aids withadequate faculties trained from Rexroth Germany. The Centre aims at trainingthe industry personnel and students of various institutions from EngineeringDegree, Diploma and Certified courses in the Automation field to enable ourIndustry personnel, faculty and students to have hands on experience andupgradation of technical skills which are essential for industry progress.
Periyar Maniammai University e-governance team comprised of facultymembers and students of our University. This team is responsible formaintaining hardware and software, developing and maintaining the websiteand developing software which supports governance of the University.BRAIN (Brilliant Resources for Academic Institutions) is an ERP (EnterpriseResource Planning) package developed with a prime motive of automatingall the University activities. This software enables user-friendly informationaccess by the University management staff and students. As the entire datais available in the database, any analysis can be done at any desired point oftime. Easy User interface design makes the system easer for staff and students.

4. All the PMU UG students should undergo Field / Industrial Trainingas part of their Curriculum, during the even semester (after completingend exams), as detailed below:-
At the end of First year - 15 days - 2 credits
At the end of Second year - 21 days - 2 credits
At the end of Third year - 45 days - 4 credits
This will be considered for credit in their academic performance
Each student undergoing Field / Industrial Training has to maintain andsubmit the field record book along with attendance duly signed by theauthorized person from industries/field work when they undertake training.For this, it is the responsibility of the students to identify the organization /industry to which she or he wants to undergo for the Field / IndustrialTraining.
5. Attendance Requirement for the UG & PG students to appear forUniversity Examination (Full Time & Part Time) (For First yearstudents alone Outcome Based Assessment will be followed). .
6. Participation in any one of the NSS/NCC/NSO/YRC or any two ofthe clubs & societies of our University during the course of theirstudy is mandatory.

LIBRARYThe University Library holds at present 81,233 Books, 519National,
International and Online Journals, 8 dailies, 2035 Audio and Video CDs. Thebook bank of this library has 3,625 books. Library has been automated and itis possible to locate any book instantly. The Library is kept open from 9.00a.m. to 7.30 p.m. on all days and on Sundays from 9.00 a.m to 3.00 p.m.
This University Library has secured the institutional membership of theBritish Council Library besides DELNET, UGC - INFONET and TamilUniversity. The library is a subscriber of J-Gate Engineering TechnologyDatabase, ASCE, IEEE, MathSciNet Database RIBA, and TERI. This libraryprovides opportunity for staff and students to borrow necessary titles fromthese sources and also to browse Journals. A Digital Library is also madeavailable.
Ø A Separate Section with Competitive Exam books is maintained.Ø Books are arranged according to DDC (Dewey Decimal Classification)
System for easy search.Ø The library information Management system is maintained through the
BRAIN Software of this University.Ø The availability of the books could be searched easily through OPAC
(Online Public Access Catalogue) system.Ø Photo copying facility is available in the Library.
PROCEDUREIn the Library following procedure is adopted for the issuing of books.

4. The book borrowed by the students should be returned within 15 daysfrom the date of issue. Otherwise a fine of Rs.1.00 per day will be collected,for not returning the book before the due date.
5. The text books borrowed by the staff members should be returned by theend of the semester.
6. The borrowers who fail to pay the fine for belated return of books will notbe allowed to borrow from the library until the fine is paid.
7. The outgoing students shall return all the books at the end of the respectiveacademic year and get necessary clearance certificate from the Librarian.
LOSS OF BOOKS /ID CARD
1. The loss of Library books or ID Cards should be reported immediately2. If any book is lost, the borrower should replace it by a new book or she/ he
will be required to pay triple the cost of the published price of the book andwith a fine of Rs.100/-.
GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS TO BE FOLLOWED IN THE LIBRARY
1. The users of the library are strictly instructed to leave all their books, notebooks and bags outside the Library.
2. Cell phones are not allowed.3. Strict silence should be observed in the Library.4. Students and Staff members are not permitted to replace the books,
periodicals and Journals in the shelves after use.5. Current periodicals and Journals will not be issued.6. Reference books are meant for reference in the Library itself by the students
and staff. Reference books will not be issued.
BOOKS DONATION TO THE LIBRARY
The Library accept donation of books, journals etc., from the Individuals,Societies, Institutions etc., subject to approval by the Management.
LIBRARY LITERARY FORUM
Library Literary forum is functioning to promote the reading habit among thestudents and to exchange views of experts.

HOSTEL1. ADMISSION
1.1 Application form for admission to the hostel shall by duly filled andsubmitted to the Warden Office.
1.2 Admission to the hostel is subjected to the rules and regulations of theUniversity.

3. DISCIPLINARY ACTIVITIES
3.1 Students must be present in their allotted rooms at the time of roll call.3.2 During the class hours, the students must not be in their rooms without
getting permission. If any student remains locking him / her self in theroom during the class hours disciplinary action will be taken.
3.3 No student shall be absent from the hostel without getting priorpermission of the Warden/ Assistant Warden.
3.4 In case of illness during class hours, students shall get written permissionfrom the concerned Class incharge / HOD before entering the hostel.
3.5 Students should be in their rooms from 6.00 P.M. to 6.00 A.M. Studentsshould not go out of the campus without getting written permissionfrom the Warden.
3.6 Study hours should strictly be adhered to from 6.00 P.M. to 8.00 P.M.Students must switch off the room lights from 10.00 P.M. to 5.00 A.M.
3.7 Students should get prior permission from the Warden before leavingthe hostel and an Outpass must be obtained from the Warden Office.

Students who return back from their native places after holidays andvacation should compulsorily check in before 10.00 PM inside the hostel.
3.8 Students should not invite any unauthorized person to the hostel.3.9 Students are expected to keep their rooms clean and tidy at all times.3.10 Students should not organize any kind of meetings and discussions in
the hostel without the permission of the Warden. Students spreadingvulgar literature/pictures/video clippings or any of the like objects willbe severely punished.
3.11 Students shall be informed common messages through common noticeboard.
3.12 No incoming phone calls shall be entertained during study hours.3.13 Students should not write or correct any displayed information belonging
to hostel. Writing and Sticking posters, fixing mirrors and photos on thewalls of the hostel building and rooms are strictly prohibited.
3.14 Playing of loud music and other forms of disturbance to other inmates isnot permitted.
3.15 Students should not organize any kind of meetings and discussion orcirculate any kind of notice in the hostel without the permission of theWarden.
3.16 Incase damage to any property belonging to the hostel is identified thenthe fine amount will be collected from that particular student. Otherwisea common fine will be collected from all the students.
3.17 Students shall not interfere with cooking and other services of the hostel.They shall not seek any favours from the hostel staff. They should informthe Warden/Asst.Warden incase of any difference of opinion with thehostel staff.
3.18 Using of cell phone is strictly prohibited. Cell phone seized from thestudents will not be returned.
3.19 Ragging is strictly prohibited and is a punishable offence. Any studentindulging in ragging will be recommended to vacate the hostel.

4. MEDICAL ASSISTANCE
4.1 Students shall inform the Warden whenever they suffer from any illnessor injury. They shall take treatment that would be arranged by theWarden.
4.2 First Aid medical assistance is provided in the University dispensary tothe students who are ill.
4.3 Sick students may be allowed to eat meals in their rooms with thepermission of the Warden and they may obtain a special diet on therecommendation of the Medical Officer or the Warden.
5. VISITOR RULES
5.1 Visitors are allowed to see their wards only on Sundays between 8.00a.m. to 6.00 p.m. They should bring proper identity card while enteringinto the University premises.
5.2 For the Visitors Identity Cards, the students have to submit sixphotographs (three stamp size and three passport size) compulsorilywithin five days of joining the hostel, for each visitor.
6. GENERAL RULES
6.1 Students are advised to lock their rooms whenever they go out to ensuresafety of their belongings. They should not change the locks providedby the University and must use those provided to them only.
6.2 Safe custody of money and valuables is the sole responsibility of thestudents and administration shall not be responsible for any theft orloss whatsoever in the hostel.
6.3 The University reserves the right to take disciplinary action includingcancellation of allotment of hostel accommodation for any indisciplineand violation of hostel rules and regulations.

D. STUDENTS’ CONDUCT AND DISCIPLINARY CODES
1 Boys have to wear full pants and shirts tucked in and formal shoes.2 They are not allowed to wear safari, pyjamas, dhoti, stonewash pants
and jeans.3 Girls have to wear churidar with properly pinned thupattas or Pant and
Shirt. They are not allowed to wear miniskirt, midi, short churidar,sleeveless garments and tight pants.
4 Students should be punctual in attending their classes. They are expectedto communicate in English.
5 Students should keep their environment eco – friendly, neat and tidy.6 Without prior notification students should not be absent for classes.7 Students should park their two wheelers at the entrance parking only.8 Students should always wear their own identity cards.9 Students are expected to spend their free time in the Library / Reading
Room. They shall not loiter along the verandahs or crowd in front of theoffices or the Campus roads. Students should refrain from sitting on placessuch as parapets, stairs, footpaths etc.
10 Periyar Maniammai University Campus is a Smoke free Campus.11 Silence shall be maintained in the premises of the University.12 Students are not permitted to use mobile phones in the campus.13 Students shall not indulge in any undesirable activity and shall maintain
highest standard of discipline.14 Students shall refrain from all activities considered as ragging which is a
criminal offence.15 Possession or consumption of narcotic drugs, tobacco, alcohol and other
intoxicating substances are strictly prohibited in the campus and hostels.16 Students are prohibited from indulging in anti–institutional, anti–
national, anti-social, communal, immoral or political expressions andactivities within the campus and hostels.
17 Students shall not deface, disfigure, damage or destroy or cause any lossin any manner to or regarding public, private or University properties.
18 Unauthorized entry of outsiders into the campus as well as hostels isstrictly prohibited. Without specific permission of the authorities, studentsshall not bring outsiders to the University or Hostels.
19 No one shall exhibit any type of banners, flags, boards etc. inside thecampus, gates, buildings or on the compound walls.
20 No student shall collect money either by request or by coercion from otherswithin the campus orhostels.
21 No student shall enter or leave the classroom when the session is onwithout the permission of the teacher.
22 Any conduct, which leads to lowering of the reputation of the Universityis prohibited.
