Nias Island
Thank you for your generous support last week. We collected 3 large boxes of stationery items and just over $450 to buy more items and post your generous donations overseas. There are several parents who are following up donations from Officeworks and Scholastic, so our final package promises to be a big help. Many thanks – we have an incredibly generous community.
Changes to afternoon routines for children In a newsletter before the last vacation I advised that we were concerned about last minute changes to pick up routines that created a few mix-ups. We will be sending home a preprinted notepad advice letter this week, similar to the absence notes, to help you to notify changes to your child‘s teacher. Please assist us to keep your child safe by observing the following:
If your child has a mobile phone and a school phone pass to use it, please send your child a text message to communicate any change/s.
If you know in the morning that there will be a change, please write the class teacher a note instead of phoning the message through and advise your child about the change before they come to school.
If you have a change of mind about a pick-up please phone by 1pm so that we can deliver the message before classes resume after the recess break.
Office staff have been directed to advise callers that messages received after classes resume at 1.25pm may not be delivered due to other priorities.
Many thanks for your help in this matter.
NAPLAN on the website
The assistant principal team developed a great presentation about NAPLAN (National Assessment Program Literacy and Numeracy) and preliminary analysis of our 2012 results. Sue Groom and Lisa Wicks presented this at the last P & C meeting. So that those of you unable to attend the last meeting can also be informed, we are posting the presentation on our website under ―News‖.
Class placements for 2013 Teachers are writing reports over the next few weeks and will be planning classes for 2013. All class placements at Kincumber Public School are made taking into account such factors as:
· Number of students · Gender balance · Requests by parents or teachers for placement in a certain class · The placement of students with special needs · Friendship groups
While this list is not intended to be exhaustive, other factors may be considered by school executive when placing students into classes. By the end of the year we should have tentatively placed all children in classes, allocated staff and identified classrooms. I hope to be able to provide you with that information by Friday 30 November.
Whenever possible and practicable, and where a student may benefit from a move, a child may change classes at the request of a parent or school executive. The move should not compromise school organisation nor disadvantage other students. Most class moves will take place at the beginning of the school year when numbers are likely to change. After class numbers are finalised we would anticipate few moves. All class placement requests from parents should be directed to the Principal in writing by 16 November.
In addition, if you will not be returning in 2013, or know of students who intend to enrol, please advise the office as soon as possible so that we can factor this information into our class structures.
Rule of the Week
This week‘s rules are about toilets. Teachers and students practised and talked about the following expectations that relate to our school‘s
four values of Care, Courtesy, Cooperation and Commonsense.
The reason for these rules is that we need good hygiene practices to keep us healthy, for safety (wet floors are slip hazards) and to ensure student safety. I am pleased to be able to advise that Miss Rita Jefferies will take 2A so that Mrs Armstrong can relieve as principal. Rita completed her internship on 3K in term 3 and we are very pleased to have her take 2A.
Hope you had a great week at our great school! Judi Armstrong will be writing your newsletter for the next four weeks while she relieves as principal while I am on long service leave. Thank you Judi.

Chess Team Stage 2 Students
Last term Sarah, Caitlin and Tyler competed in the Macquarie University Sunday Chess Challenge in the Primary School
division. All three enjoyed the experience of competing against students from other schools, and gained from the experience. I encourage any student interested in playing in the school
chess team next year to ‘brush up’ on their chess skills over the coming months. Early next year trials will be held to select
our school chess team/s. Mrs Judd
THIRD IN STATE
Our incredible girls’ football team finished a very impressive third in the NSWPSSA Girls’ Football Knockout Competition this year. They performed well on the day and impressed us all with their skill, fair play and team work. Over one thousand teams enter the knockout camp each year and we are so proud of their achievement. Congratulations girls and Michelle Ennis, super coach!

Class Item - 1K
Term 4 first weekly recount from the amazing children in 1K. We did this recount by ourselves without the help of Mr Thode. We hope that you
enjoy it!
On Monday the class of 1K did a holiday recount. These elaborate recounts told anybody who wanted to read them, what we did for our holidays.
After our class finished the holiday recounts, we played a couple of mathematical activities. These involved rolling dice, adding them up then moving that many spaces on a snakes and ladders board. Then to make it harder for our class Mr Thode decided that we were to roll a dice and subtract that number from different numbers and that was how many spaces that we
moved. It was really fun and challenging at the end.
On Tuesday we did a book review of some of our favourite books from the classroom. When we were reviewing the books we didn't tell the reader what happened but rather why we liked or didn't like them.
On Wednesday we learnt about how to use fractions in the classroom and how they affect everyday situations such as when baking a cake. After that we began to create questions for our Maths board game that we are creating. Finally on Wednesday to make our parents assembly the best that it could be we practised our dance and our reading to make sure it was the best it could be.
On Thursday we also learnt about places that we feel safe and discussed why we feel safe in these locations.
We also created artwork that showed these places. Finally on Thursday we did a beep test, dance and some games for sport.
On Friday it was the day that we presented the assembly. We began the day with an amazing session in the best computer lab increasing our typing abilities. Next we increased out maths abilities by using the marvellous program ―Targeting Maths‖.
Next it was big assembly that we were to run and perform. In the assembly we all read beautifully. In this assembly we performed a dance to a modified version of Katy Perry‘s song Hot ‗n Cold. Mr Thode said, ―Everyone did a really good job‖!
Overall we had a very fun week and we are looking
forward to seeing what next week holds in place for us.
