Originally from Syracuse, New York, Marco Schirripa holdsBachelor’s degrees in Percussion Performance and MusicTheory from Ithaca College, as well as a Master’s degree anddoctorate in Percussion from Indiana University, where hewas awarded the prestigious Performer's Certificate. Dr.Schirripa currently serves as Assistant Professor of Percussionat The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.
Marco has performed on international stages, including theU.S. Navy Band Saxophone Symposium, the InternationalTuba and Euphonium Conference, Zeltsman Marimba Festival,and several Percussive Arts Society InternationalConventions. He was named a finalist in the 2012 PercussiveArts Society International Marimba Competition, and tookfirst place in both the 2013 Great Plains and 2014 SouthernCalifornia International Marimba Competitions.
Marco has also been active inthe commissioning andpremiering of works bycomposers as diverse asMasahiro Ishijima, GordonStout, Matthew Recio, LeroyOsmon, and Joshua Oxford. Hisplaying appears on albumsfeaturing the music of GordonStout, Dominick DiOrio, LeroyOsmon, and Amaury Leon Sosa.Marco’s compositions havebeen performed around theworld and his work is availablethrough C. Alan Publicationsand Keyboard PercussionPublications.
