80 Computer CALL AND CALENDAR CALLS FOR ARTICLES FOR IEEE CS PUBLICATIONS IEEE Pervasive Computing seeks articles for a December 2008 issue on environmental sustainabil- ity. The creation, use, and disposal of large quantities of pervasive technologies such as sensors and mobile devices have strong implications for resource consump- tion and waste production. Submissions should address design for technology reuse, repurposing, or lifetime extension; sensor network applications that support the efficient use or protection of natural resources; novel systems, devices, or interfaces that support stewardship of the natural environment; and resource-efficient sys- tem design, among other topics. Articles are due by 23 June. Visit www.computer.org/ pervasive to view detailed author instructions and the complete call for papers. IEEE Intelligent Systems seeks articles for a March 2009 special issue on artificial intelligence and cultural heritage. While people have long collected objects such as books, sculptures, statues, and paintings, they now also face the preservation and archival of digital artifacts. This special issue seeks to explore problems and solutions to cultural heritage challenges in the digital age. Suitable topics for papers include knowledge repre- sentations and reasoning, feature-detection techniques for analyzing digital artifacts, and intelligent interface support for professional and lay users. Submissions are due by 15 August. Visit www.com- puter. org/portal/pages/intelligent/content/CulHerCFP. html to view the complete call for papers. IEEE Software seeks articles for a May/June 2009 issue on software development for embedded systems. Guest editors invite papers that address concept and development activities, as well as the evolution and maintenance of systems from such different industry domains as medicine, transportation, or automation. Suitable paper topics include communication proto- cols and middleware for embedded systems, modeling of quality attributes, and concepts for maintenance, robustness, and remotely diagnosable embedded system architecture. Articles are due by 1 November . Visit www.computer. org/software to view detailed author instructions and the complete call for papers.
