2020 ABPM World Class Center Call for Entries Statement of Purpose To recognize and honor World Class achievement in the design of briefing centers, whose ultimate goal is to support, and to represent in the physical environment, their program’s mission, vision and values. Eligibility All entries must be briefing centers of ABPM member programs and must have been completed during the past two years: that is on or after December 31, 2017. Projects deemed to be World Class will inform the design of future centers, going beyond currently conventional methods and exploring new theories, ideas and approaches to architecture, interior design and branding. Call for Entries

Statement of PurposeTo recognize and honor World Class achievement in the design of briefing centers, whose ultimate goal is to support, and to represent in the physical environment, their program’s mission, vision and values.

EligibilityAll entries must be briefing centers of ABPM member programs and must have been completed during the past two years: that is on or after December 31, 2017.

Award Criteria / Project DescriptionEntries will be judged on the merits of design and innovation, with an emphasis on raising the standard and expanding the definition of design excellence in support of executive briefing programs. Projects deemed to be World Class will inform the design of future centers, going beyond currently conventional methods and exploring new theories, ideas and approaches to architecture, interior design and branding.

Please provide a maximum one-page typed full description of the project and a maximum of one-page typed narrative for each of the bullets below. Include the following headers, as jurors will judge on these criteria:

Project objective. Provide the backstory and specific criteria defined by management and/or the project team. Were there specific goals, requirements, or challenges? How did you meet them? What are the brand, key messaging, or corporate culture elements that were essential in the center’s design?

Successful representation of the briefing program’s mission, vision and values. Describe how the new center supports your program’s mission, vision and values. Describe the customer’s experience of the center, and how that experience aligns with the briefing program’s purpose. What do you want your customers to feel, or to take away, when they leave your center or space, and how does the design achieve this goal?

Innovation. How does this new center inform the design of future briefing centers? Examples might include the use of advanced building or communication technologies, new applications for existing technologies, or an investigation of new materials. How do architecture and/or interior design incorporate technology to support the project goals? Describe the technologies used to convey messaging or to enhance the customer experience. What creative use was made of materials and building systems? Describe other examples of creativity, for example in design, messaging, and use of materials.

Sustainability. How does the center incorporate energy conservation and environmental consciousness in design, demonstrate a practical sensitivity to the environment, and show a forward-thinking regard for “green design”? Describe strategies for passive and active energy efficiencies. Describe other sustainable design materials, methods or practices implemented in the project. Is the center a candidate for, or recipient of, LEED certification?

Submission Materials and FormatMaterials should be sent either electronically (for example via Dropbox or a similar application) or, if creating a web site as your submission, via url link to [email protected].

Required materials are:o Project Description (guidelines provided above)o A minimum of five professional photographs (300 dpi or greater in jpg, tif or .eps

format) Please include a description of the space and photographer credit for each photo.

o Other (optional) supporting media - Do not add additional narrative in the supplemental materials; only show supplements that demonstrate points made in your main narrative. The attachments should be accessible via hypertext link from the narrative page for the given characteristic, and each attachment should clearly and concisely support a corresponding statement or statements. Hypertext links on the attachments should return the reader to the narrative, so that jurors are able to easily move back and forth in the submission. Please verify that your document will function across various operating systems, platforms or browsers.

Entry FeeSubmission fee may be paid by a check or credit card payment (Mastercard, Visa or American Express). Submissions cannot be accepted if payment is not received by December 2, 2019. The non-refundable entry fee is $245 USD. Credit card information may be included on the entry form on page 5.

JurySubmissions will be judged by a panel of distinguished architects, interior designers, technology designers, and/or creative directors who have extensive experience in the design of briefing centers and customer centers. Prospective jurors who have bid on, or worked on, one or more candidate projects are not eligible to serve.

AwardsProjects will not be judged in competition with other entries, but on the basis of their worthiness for an award for World Class achievement. At the jurors’ discretion, additional special recognition and awards may be given, for example, in innovation or technical achievement. Awards will be presented to the briefing program managers of the winning centers at the ABPM’s annual awards ceremony on April 1, 2020, in Santa Clara, CA.1 Winners will not be notified prior to the announcement at the awards ceremony. Following the ceremony, winners may request additional awards for members of their project teams, at a cost of $199 USD each, plus the cost of shipping.

Recognition and ExhibitionThe program teams of those centers recognized as World Class in 2020 will be presented with engraved awards at the ABPM Spring Conference Awards Ceremony. They will also be recognized in Briefly, the ABPM Blog on www.abpm.com. Photographs of award-winning centers will be displayed on the ABPM’s home page and in a “centers” section of the ABPM web site. In addition, one photo may be included on the ABPM.com home page featured photo rotation.

Deadline for Entries and TimelineCompleted entries must be received no later than December 2, 2019 (see Submission Materials & Format for email instructions). The jury will meet in February, 2020, to review all entries and to select the award winners in each category. The jurors’ decisions will be based on the materials submitted. Winners will not be notified prior to the announcement at the ABPM Spring Conference awards ceremony in Santa Clara, CA.

1 If a winning program’s team is unable to be present to accept the award at the ceremony and requires that the award be shipped, that program team will be invoiced for shipping cost.
