Pursuant to A.R.S. § 38-431.02, notice is hereby given to the members of theEconomic Development Advisory Commission (EDAC) and to the general publicthat the EDAC Commission will hold a meeting open to the public on the abovedate, time, and location.  Minutes of its proceedings shall be taken and filed withthe Town Clerk for Public Inspection.

ACTION MAY BE TAKEN BY THE COMMISSION ON ANY ITEM LISTED ON THISAGENDA. Revisions to the agenda can occur up to 24 hours prior to the meeting.

Meeting TimesWelcome to this Economic Development Advisory Commission (EDAC) meeting.Regular Commission meetings are usually held the second Thursday of eachmonth at 8:00 AM at the Public Services Center, although the date or time maychange and additional meetings may be called at other times and/or places.Contact the Town Clerk or watch for posted agendas for other meetings. All persons attending the Commission meeting, whether speaking to theCommission or not, are expected to observe the Commission rules, as well as therules of politeness, propriety, decorum and good conduct. Any person interferingwith the meeting in any way, or acting rudely or loudly will be removed from themeeting and will not be allowed to return.

2. Update from Candace Tierney, Workforce Development Coordinator at the WickenburgPublic Library and Learning Center

 

 

  Candace Tierney had to reschedule. 

3. Update on the Town Hall Event 2017   

  Josh Wright, Town Manager reported that he had reserved the Community Center forJanuary 27 & 28, 2017 and the Desert Caballeros Western Museum CrossroadsFacilities for January 28, 2017 for the Town Hall Event. It was the commission's ideato use as many down town facilities as possible.

Commissioner Henson stated that she also was a member of the Library Board andthat they could use the meeting room at the library as well.

Mr. Wright stated that the Commission needed to discuss who would be invited, andwhat would be the topics for discussion.

Commissioner Kester asked what was the construction going on at the library.

Mr. Wright reported that they were in the middle of enlarging the back patio of thelibrary. The library will be hosting a dedication of the new Maricopa County Recorder'skiosk and Maricopa County Recorder, Helen Purcell and Maricopa County Supervisorfor District 4, Clint Hickman would be attending on Thursday, July 28, 2016. RobertCarmona, Parks, Recreation and Facilities Director and his staff have made manyimprovements to the library.

Commissioner Henson stated that the Head Librarian, Jane Horsefield has been intouch with the Police and Fire Departments to have members drop by the TeenLounge from time to time to discuss being an officer and firefighter.

Chair Logan asked that all the Commissioners put a list together on topics fordiscussion at the Town Hall Event 2017.

 

E. REPORTS   

1. New Business Report, Building Report, Finance Department Update      

  Mr. Wright reported that the Town Clerk's Office has placed an advertisement in theWickenburg Sun for new Commissioner for the empty seat on the Commission. Wewould like to have a business person to fill the seat. Also, the advertisement andposting have gone out for the new Economic Development position.

 

2. Wickenburg Chamber of Commerce Update   

  Mrs. Brooks reported that the Chamber of Commerce is busy preparing seminars forthe summer. More of the notices for the ADA mess have been received by townbusinesses. We have reached out to the attorneys and hope to have this resolvedsoon. The Chamber's summer promotion of "Give Us Your Best Shot" is going well,and we have already had some winners. Fiesta de Septiembre is September 3rd. Thenew directory went out and it is also available on the Chamber of Commerce website.

 

3. Wickenburg Regional Economic Development Partnership Update   

  Mr. Wright reported that the council approved modifications to the contract for the

  Mr. Wright reported that the council approved modifications to the contract for theForepaugh property. Now we will be moving forward, and we have a two yearperformance clause dated July 2018.

Commissioner Henson asked if the town would be deeding the Forepaugh property tothe WREDP.

Mr. Wright stated that the Town would, but that the performance clause and otheritems were put into the agreement to safeguard the Town.

Mrs. Brooks asked if the WREDP could sell the property.

Mr. Wright stated that they could, but that all the items in the agreement go with theproperty. Any profits made off of the sale of the property would have to go back intothe property. Just like any other development we have a development agreement.The Town had the attorney draw up the agreement so in order to sell the property theTown has to give its approval. They will have to buy fire protection from the Town.

 

4. Wickenburg Downtown Revitalization Foundation Update   

  Mr. Wright reported that the WDRF had purchased the Chaparral building and were inthe process of paving the parking lot.

 

5. Greater Phoenix Economic Council Update   

  No Update
