Hymn of Praise to the Triune GodAs A Fire is Meant for Burning
TFWS 2237Lori Montgomery, song leader
As a fire is meant for burning with a bright and warming flame,
so the church is meant for mission, giving
glory to God’s name. Not to preach our creeds or
customs, but to build a bridge of care,
we join hands across the nations, finding neighbors everywhere.
We are learners; we are teachers; we are pilgrims on the way.
We are seekers; we are givers; we are vessels made of clay.
By our gentle, loving actions we would show that Christ is light. In a humble, listening Spirit we
would live to God’s delight.
As a green bud is the springtime is a sign of life renewed,
so may we be signs of oneness ‘mid earth’s peoples, many hued. As a rainbow lights the heavens when a storm is past and gone,
may our lives reflect the radiance of God’s new and glorious dawn.

Being Young Old
Opening PrayerGracious God,
Bring your Spirit,as fresh wind
to stir the spark of faith within our hearts.
As a fire is meant to burn, find us willing to be stirred.Give us energy and passion!
Consume our hearts with your call.
Find us followingthrough all our years.
Amen.
Scripture Lessons Philippians 3:12-14
It’s not that I have already reached this goal or have already been per-
fected, but I pursue it, so that I may grab hold of it because Christ
grabbed hold of me for just this purpose. Brothers and sisters,
I myself don’t think I’ve reached it, but I do this one thing: I forget about the things behind me and reach out for the things ahead of
me. The goal I pursue is the prize of God’s upward call in Christ Jesus.
Ephesians 3:16
I ask that he will strengthen you in your inner selves from the riches
of his glory through the Spirit.
HymnLord, You Have Come
to the LakeshoreUMH 344
Lord, you have come to the lakeshore looking neither for
wealthy nor wise ones; you only asked me to follow humbly.
O Lord, with your eyes you have searched me, and while smiling have spoken my name; now my
boat’s left on the shoreline behind me; by your side
I will seek other seas.
You know so well my possessions; my boat carries no gold and no weapons; you will find there my
nets and labor. O Lord, with your eyes you have searched me,
and while smiling have spoken my name; now my boat’s left on the
shoreline behind me; by your side I will seek other seas.
You need my hands, full of caring through my labors to give others rest, and constant love that keeps
on loving. O Lord, with your eyes you have searched me, and while smiling have spoken my
name; now my boat’s left on the shoreline behind me; by your side
I will seek other seas. You, who have fished other
oceans, ever longed for by souls who are waiting, my loving friend, as thus you call me. O Lord, with your eyes you have searched me,
and while smiling have spoken my name; now my boat’s left on the
shoreline behind me; by your side I will seek other seas.

Music for ReflectionWhere Your Treasure Is
(sung twice) Words and music by Marty Haugen
Where your treasure is, there your heart shall be.
All that you possess will never set you free.
Seek the things that last; come and learn from me.Where your treasure is,
your heart shall be.

Peace of Christ
Lord’s PrayerOur Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.Thy kingdom come,
thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power,
and the glory, forever. Amen.

Sending HymnBlest Be the Tie That Binds
UMH 557
Blest be the tie that binds our hearts in Christian love; the fellowship of kindred minds
is like to that above.
Before our Father’s throne we pour our ardent prayers; our
fears, our hopes, our aims are one, our comforts and our cares.
We share each other’s woes, our mutual burdens bear; and often for each other flows the
sympathizing tear.
When we asunder part, it gives us inward pain; but we shall still be
joined in heart, and hope to meet again.
