Jesus said we must love our neighbor as ourselves, not right afterourselves. When Jesus spoke of the Kingdom of God, he was not speaking of Heavenor some eternal reward. He said the Kingdom of God is amongst us. (Luke 17:21)

Jesus said the Kingdom of God is like a mustard seed that grows bigger than anyone could everexpect. (Luke 13:19) Jesus said the Kingdom of God is like yeast, which leavens all the bread dough, not only a portion. (Luke 13:20) He was speaking of his vision of a reality in which all of us live in fullaccord with God’s will.

And what is the will of God which, when followed, yields the experience of this illusiveKingdom of God? Immediately after describing the Kingdom of God, Jesus talks about strangers fromeast and west, from north and south, eating in the Kingdom of God as part of a great reversal, where“some are last who will be first, and some are first who will be last.” (Luke 13:29-30) Shortly afteruttering those words, Jesus admonishes the host of a banquet to “invite the poor, the crippled, thelame, and the blind. And you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you,” (Luke 14:13-14) Jesus, who manifested the Kingdom of God in the way he conducted his life, was criticized by the religiousleaders of his day for “welcoming sinners and eating with them.” (Luke 15:2) In response to theircriticism, Jesus tells parables of a shepherd searching for a single lost sheep, a woman searching for asingle lost coin, and a father welcoming a wayward son. (Luke 15:3-32) He goes on to talk pointedlyabout wealth, always praising those who share it freely and condemning those who would hold onto

it. (Luke 16:1-15) Taken together, God’s will is spelled out by Jesus as the welcoming of the strangerand sharing of all we have with others, especially the less fortunate.

We who call ourselves First Christian Church of Fullerton practice what we preach! We aregood stewards of the resources God has given us including time, talent, and finances. Consider this:every dollar you share with your church benefits someone in need!

When you pay pastors’ salaries, you bring comfort to your fellow church members who arehurting, whether they are hospitalized, stricken with grief, or otherwise in need of support. Youprovide a pastor with the opportunity to study and pray so he can offer the Gospel message everySunday morning. You also make sure someone will be dedicated to training people to be disciplesand disciples to be disciple-makers. You feed the spiritually hungry, give drink to those who thirstfor understanding, visit those who are alone, and bring people together in fellowship.

When you pay a secretary’s salary, you make sure that everyone who enters our church orcalls on the phone is welcomed with the love of Christ. You share news of the ministry of our churchthrough an outstanding weekly newsletter. You provide bulletins and other resources to enablepeople to participate in any or all of our three weekly services. Perhaps most importantly, youprovide a switchboard for communication between our members.

When you maintain our facility, you put a roof over the heads of alcoholics and drug addictsas they find recovery from the ravages of addiction. You provide a home to the Florence CrittentonHigh School. You give people a place to gather to worship God, to study the Gospel, and to formlasting relationships with other Christians.

Every dime you give to your church, every hour you volunteer, and every talent you share

goes to benefit someone in need, directly or indirectly. Where else could you make such a profounddifference as you practice the stewardship of your resources? We know the gifts God has given youare precious, and we go to great pains to share them where they are most needed. Our church canonly practice good stewardship because you practice good stewardship.

Thank you for being so generous.

P.M. in Chapman Lounge.Oct. 29: The Roman Catholic Church and theProtestant Reformation

Justification was at the center of theCatholic-Protestant divide that took place inthe sixteenth century. But it is no mere boringhistory lesson! Justification is as relevant todayas it was back then. There have been and will

continue to be intense ecumenical discussionsover justification. Your own understanding ofwhat Christianity is all about is likely to bedetermined by how you understand thiscentral doctrine of the Christian faith.

SaintsAlive!LivingGenerouslyGrowing Our Faith ThroughGenerosity

Our stewardship focus forthis month is 1 Corinthians 16:1-

4, “Now concerning the collection for the

saints: you should follow the directions I gaveto the churches of Galatia. On the first day ofevery week, each of you is to put aside andsave whatever extra you earn, so thatcollections need not be taken when I come. And when I arrive, I will send any whom youapprove with letters to take your gift to Jerusalem. If it seems advisable that I shouldgo also, they will accompany me. ”

Corinth was a Roman colony in Greece,an economic center with two harbors, and wasa prosperous, cosmopolitan environment. Paulinstructed the Corinthian congregation withthe affection of a parent and admonished themwhen needed. He addressed the subjects ofdivisions in the church, authority, morality, spiritual gifts, and collections for the saints.Using the church in Galatia as an example forthe Corinthians, Paul helped unify diversecongregations in a common mission of reliefand witness. Later, Paul used the church of

Corinth as an example for the church in Rome, further widening the common mission.

“Christ has no body now on earth but yours,no hands but yours. Yours are the eyes throughwhich He is to go about doing good. Yours are thehands with which He is to bless people now.”

St. Teresa of Avila

Please put your Saints Alive! LivingGenerously card in the collection box under

our generosity tree and hang your leaf on ourtree.

AnotheroneofFCCF’sYoungAdultsworkinginMinistry Kenny Harisis one of our former youth who recently graduated from CreanLutheran High School has chosen to serve as a missionary through Youth With aMission (YWAM) Orlando. Below is a letter he has sent to let us know what he isdoing. As many of you know, these missionaries have to raise their own money to goto these foreign countries to work. Kenny would never ask for help. If you would

like to donate to help Kenny, please contact Donna in the office and she can direct you.

Dear friends and family,Ernso was assumed dead when a rescue team found him in the rubble of the

2010 earthquake in Port-Au-Prince, Haiti. Like so many other bodies, he was taken to amakeshift morgue. Hours later, a relief worker walked by and heard a faint knockingsound at the door of the morgue. The young boy, left among the dead, was alive, but just barely. Ernso was given a safe place to recover at YWAM's property in Haiti.Earthquakes and hurricanes have caused many, like Ernso, to be in desperate need ofbasic food, housing and sanitation. Most Haitians live on one dollar and one meal a day. WhileHaiti’s physical needs are obvious their deeper spiritual needs can only be seen in those that practiceSatan worship & voodoo. Today YWAM continues to respond to the physical and spiritual needs of

individuals like Ernso in Haiti and to the many refugees who have crossed the Dominican border. I am excited to travel to Haiti and Dominican Republic because I have been there before, but I

spent my vacation there on the nicer, more privileged side of the island. To not only be able to seewhat really ails the people but to actually help them with that would be a great opportunity. I lookforward to tackling things in the areas of basic needs, hunger and equal rights. Dominicans have ahistory with the Haitians as something a lot less than allies. To be able to, along with my team, comeas a spiritual mediator between the two and give them something to have in common, which is theFather, Son, and Holy Spirit, would be a grand accomplishment. In the areas of hunger and basicneeds, me and the people on the team are fully prepared to satisfy their hunger with the help ofsystems like rain catchment tanks that would provide clean water, and the growing of food throughaquaponics. Spiritual hunger is also an inherent issue that would be confronted on our outreach.

I’m currently in a 12-week process where I am being schooled in how to reach out to theunreached, and help those who need help. What I’ve learned so far from this process has helped megreatly in my walk with God. In only the first two weeks my faith has taken a huge step forward. Itall started with the very first week of teaching, which was on hearing the voice of God. This courseisn't purely spiritual, however. It's very academic as well, with very legitimate Bible study andequipping us to answer some of the toughest faith based questions.

I know that God is not calling me to do this alone. Together, with your prayers, we will bringthe hope of Christ to this desperate people - Even children who have been found to have a secondchance in life. So this is what I am asking; would you, my friends and family, take time out to prayfor my team and I as we go to Haiti and the Dominican Republic?
