WEEKLY NEWSLETTER JULY 15, 2020
One thing many of us know by now is that a long or tough journey is made easier by being able to traverse it with others. In the Christian life, we have a way of talking about this that goes beyond just ‘having someone else around.’ The Greek word is “koinonia,” which is often translated as “fellowship” but has a deep and rich meaning about a spiritual bond
through shared life. In some instances it is translated as “sharing” or “partnership.”
I thank all of you for bearing with me as I do what I can to help encourage and provide for our koinonia to continue in any way it can. Of course, gatherings are only the vehicle for this Christian fellowship and not the connection itself, but even so, I hope you will continue to take advantage of the opportunities we have, both virtual and (finally!) in-person and outdoors.
For example, please take note of the announcement in this newsletter regarding our next outdoor gathering. It will take place on our church lawn on Sunday night, July 19th, 7:30 p.m. If you were present for the first one, everything will essentially look the same. If this outdoor gathering will be your first, be sure to review the requirements and restrictions that we have in place for everyone’s safety and comfort.
Please also take note of the Drive-Thru Adventure that we are planning on Friday, July 31. This is the next fun and fellowship event done in the same spirit as the game show night some of us highly enjoyed a month or so ago. Although I know it won’t be practical for some members of the church, please consider taking part.
All women should take note of the next movie night this Friday, July 17th, following a fun and successful time the first go-around.
These are, of course, new and one-time opportunities, but important weekly ones continue. I encourage everyone to at least occasionally join us for Tuesday coffee & conversation at 8:30 a.m. and prayer meetings on Thursdays at 12:00 noon or 8:00 p.m. Bible study will likely resume in August.

CBC Family Event - Drive Thru Adventure
Friday, July 31 - 6:30-9:00pm
The Calvary Baptist Church Board of Christian Education presents...
A fun and social distance compliant event for all ages
Load up your family vehicle, grab an internet-enabled phone, and meet in the parking lot of CBC for our next family event. Compete against the rest of the church in an amazing race scavenger hunt competition around Newark, Delaware, from the comfort of your car! Note that you will need to get out of your vehicle at various places to complete tasks and take photos, and each person should bring a mask/face covering in case you need to answer a clue where others are present. Competition rules, activities and clues will be handed out when families arrive. Once we say GO your family will have 2 hours to compete and complete as many tasks as you can. There will be a few winners... a lot of non-winners... but, everyone will have a blast! Plus, and maybe most importantly, there will be Calvary bragging rights for the 1st ever Drive Thru Adventure!

Lee McDonley
64 Welsh Tract Rd. #108, Newark, DE 19713 Phone unlisted – please call office for number
Lee McDonley has been a member of Calvary for
several years. She was very active in the Women’s Group. She was also a member of the V-Team when it
was active and visited our many shut-ins in those days. Some of you may not know it, but Lee had
costumes and routines dressed as a clown and visited Newark Manor Nursing Home to entertain the
residents there every week for a long time. If you missed it, you certainly missed a treat with a good
laugh. Lee has been unable to attend service for some time and is unable to drive. She enjoys hearing
from the Calvary family through cards and phone calls.

Weekly meals for the homeless have
ended as Hope Dining Room reopens.
Thank you to all of those who donated
time, energy and food to help us in our
partnership with other churches to make sure the
homeless are fed. This efforts ends this week, and as
Hope Dining Room reopens for takeout, we are
hopeful that this will fill some of the ongoing need.
Remember to pray for our vulnerable friends.
