CALL TO WORSHIP AND LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

We gather today with the one who created us.God calls us to worship.

There are many places to be.We choose to be here and in community.

We are commanded to pray continually.Giving thanks in every situation, because this is God’s will for us.

We rely on our spiritual leaders, because they watch over our whole being.

We are commanded to love one another. This is how everyone will know that we are Christ's disciples.

It is more blessed to give than to receive. For where our treasure is, there our heart will be also.

God’s goal is for us to become mature adults. To be fully grown, measured by the standard of the fullness of Christ.

Thank you for the indigenous Hawaiians who stewarded this land.We acknowledge the land on which we stand and are grateful for the faithful stewardship ofindigenous Hawaiians.

We stand in solidarity with Native Hawaiians and seek to build bridges of unity. We confess to our complicity and pray for reconciliation with our neighbors and land.

Amen.

GREETINGThe grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God,and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.And also with you.

GATHERING HYMN

ELW 715 - CHRIST, BE OUR LIGHT

Longing for light, we wait in darkness. Longing for truth, we turn to you.Make us your own, your holy people; light for the world to see.

Christ, be our light! Shine in our hearts. Shine through the darkness.Christ, be our light! Shine in Your church gathered today.

Longing for peace, our world is troubled; Longing for hope, many despair.Your word alone has power to save us. Make us your living voice.

Many the gift, many the people. Many the hearts that yearn to belong.Let us be servants to one another, making your kingdom come.

GATHERING SONG

BETTER IS ONE DAY

How lovely is your dwelling place, O Lord almightyFor my soul longs and even faints for you

For here my heart is satisfied within your presenceI sing beneath the shadow of your wings

Better is one day in your courts, better is one day in your houseBetter is one day in your courts than thousands elsewhere

One thing I ask and I would seek: To see your beautyTo find you in the place your glory dwells

My heart and flesh cry out for you, the living GodYour Spirit's water to my soul; I've tasted and I've seen

Come once again to me; I will draw near to you

CONFESSION & FORGIVENESS

Blessed be the holy Trinity,☩ one God,the God of manna, the God of miracles, the God of mercy.Amen.

Drawn to Christ and seeking God’s abundance, let us confess our sin.

Silence is kept for reflection.

God, our provider, help us.It is hard to believe there is enough to share. We question your ways when they differ from the waysof the world in which we live.We turn to our own understandingrather than trusting in you.We don't accept what is good for the soul.Let us become what you created us to be.Amen.

Beloved people of God:in Jesus, the manna from heaven, you are fed and nourished.By Jesus, the worker of miracles, there is always more than enough.Through Jesus,☩ the bread of life, you are shown God’s mercy:you are forgiven and loved into abundant life.Amen.

PRAYER OF THE DAY

Let us pray together.

O God, from you come all holy desires, all good counsels, and all just works. Give to us, yourservants, that peace which the world cannot give, that our hearts may be set to obey yourcommandments; and also that we, being defended from the fear of our enemies, may live inpeace and quietness, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord.

Amen.

THE PEACE

The peace and the aloha of Christ be with you always. And also with you.

(Share the peace from afar with one another.)

WE HEAR THE WORD

FIRST READING: HEBREWS 13:1-3; 7-8; 17

1 Keep loving each other like family. 2 Don’t neglect to open up your homes to guests, becauseby doing this some have been hosts to angels without knowing it. 3 Remember prisoners as ifyou were in prison with them, and people who are mistreated as if you were in their place.

7 Remember your leaders who spoke God’s word to you. Imitate their faith as you consider theway their lives turned out. 8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever!

17 Rely on your leaders and defer to them, because they watch over your whole being aspeople who are going to be held responsible for you. They need to be able to do this withpleasure and not with complaints about you, because that wouldn’t help you.

6

Page 7: Calvary by the Sea

PSALM READING: PSALM 133

1 Look at how good and pleasing it iswhen families live together as one!

2 It is like expensive oil poured over the head, running down onto the beard—

Aaron’s beard!—which extended over the collar of his robes.

3 It is like the dew on Mount Hermonstreaming down onto the mountains of Zion, because it is there that the Lord has commanded the blessing:

everlasting life.

Word of God. Word of life. Thanks be to God.

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION

ELW 884 - HOʻONANI I KA MAKUA MAU (Doxology)

Ho‘onani i ka Makua mau; Ke Keiki me ka ‘Uhane nōKe Akua mau ho‘omaika‘i pū, Ko kēia ao ko kēlā ao. ‘Āmene.

BEFORE THE GOSPEL READING

Today’s Gospel reading is from the book of John beginning in the 13th Chapter.

Glory to you, O Lord.

GOSPEL READING: JOHN 13:33-35

33 Little children, I’m with you for a little while longer. You will look for me—but, just as I toldthe Jewish leaders, I also tell you now—‘Where I’m going, you can’t come.’ 34 “I give you a newcommandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, so you also must love each other. 35This is how everyone will know that you are my disciples, when you love each other.”

The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, O Christ.

HYMN OF THE DAY

BEATITUDES SONG

Blessed are the poor in spirit; Theirs is the kingdom of heavenBlessed are all those who mourn; They will be comforted

Blessed are the meek; For they will inherit the earthBlessed are all of those who thirst for righteousness

They are the ones who will be filled evermore, filled forevermore

And great is their reward; And great can be His reward for you and me

Blessed are the merciful; They'll be shown mercyBlessed are the pure in heart; They will see God

Blessed are the ones who bring peace; They will be called children of God

Blessed are the ones who’ve endured persecutionLiving for all that is right theirs is the kingdom

And when they are falsely accused they can rejoice; evermore rejoice

Blessed are the poor in spirit; Theirs is the kingdom of heavenBlessed are all those who mourn; They will be comforted; Amen

Protect those who speak difficult truths when it is risky to do so.Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer. Aloha ke Akua.God of strength, you are near to those who endure difficulty. Aloha ke Akua.

God of love, we pray for this holy house and all those who worship here. We pray especially forthose whose efforts behind the scenes often go unnoticed; for the custodians andmaintenance workers, for our office staff, and for all of our volunteers.Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer. CBTS SAFE PRACTICESIt is essential that we remain covid-safe. All attending church must follow these precautions:

● We ask that families register prior to attending service each week. It’s easy—just click

on the link in Calvary Caller or visit our website. Attendance is limited and will ensure

social distancing.

● Masks must be worn and a six-foot distance maintained at all times, inside and outside

the sanctuary.

● The service will include communion using pre-packaged wafer and juice.

● Nikki Dee, our Director of Music and Worship Arts will sing the hymns and songs, rather

than the congregation, but we can all participate in prayers and responses.

● Attendees will check-in at the welcome table, pick up a bulletin and communion kit, and

provide information for contact tracing purposes. Please arrive a few minutes early!

● There will be a calabash near the main doors of the sanctuary for donations. We would

appreciate your using a check rather than cash.

● Sunday School for kids is coming soon – July 25th is the next Sunday School.

● If you have a prayer request, we ask you to write it out at the front desk before service

for Pastor Moses to read. Prayer requests from the Zoom service will also be read.

● After service, we would ask everyone to leave the sanctuary, but feel free to have

fellowship outside — under the Hau Tree Arbor or by the ocean.
