A publication of Calvary Baptist Church, Tupelo, Mississippi SEPTEMBER 2019 From Your Pastor School is back! Summer is drawing to a close, and your life is definitely in high gear. Where do you find peace in the midst of everything? With our lives being so busy, it would be really tempting to think that we do not have time to spend with God or in His word. That would be a mistake. The effect of the Word is that it grounds us in truth and is the best remedy for anxiety and worry. Psalm 119:105 tells us that His word is "a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path.” 1 Peter 5:7 tells us to “Cast our cares upon Him because He cares for us.” In the middle of all that we are doing, experiencing, or struggling through, He is the constant that will bring us life. Would you trust Him, and arrange your day to spend time with Him? We want you to be involved. Are you serving? Have you found a place? If not, let us help you find your best fit! Our desire is that everyone would be serving in the church somewhere! NO EVENING ACTIVITIES SEPTEMBER 1 OFFICES CLOSED SEPTEMBER 2 Ballard˚p ark 4:00˚pm CALVARY'S GOAL: $7,000 Caller Calvary

We will spend some of the time preparing for our Firewood ministry that will take place in October. If you know of someone who has a tree down that we can come cut up and store, let me know. Prayerfully, this fallen tree can allow us the opening to have gospel conversations with many!

Children’s Choirs - During Kidsquake Wednesdays at 6:00 p.m.

Complimentary specialty coffee on the

first, third, and fifth Sundays in the Media

Center/Library. Donations are acccepted.

Just imagine - ten thousand believers singing praises to God through hymns both old and new. That’s just one of the experiences some of our Calvary musicians had during the Getty Music Worship Conference in Nashville, TN. In addition to hearing preaching from John MacArthur, John Piper and many others, our group of 14 choir and orchestra members learned the importance of theologically rich hymns to future generations of Christians. Registration is now open for the 2020 Sing! Conference. Please contact me if you’re interested in being a part.

Now that the fall schedule is back underway, two additional groups will resume rehears-als. Our Singin’ Saints choir will meet on the first and third Wednesdays of the month beginning on Wednesday, September 4. The Calvary Sanctuary Handbells will meet each Monday afternoon from 5:15-6:15 beginning September 9 and continuing through April 13. Come sing Christmas with us!

Discipleship Ministry D-Groups are currently forming. If you are not familiar with this ministry, D-Groups consist of 3-5 individuals, meeting together for the sole purpose of establishing a grow-ing and vibrant walk with Christ. These groups create an atmosphere for fellow-ship, encouragement, and accountability. A healthy D-Group will help you grow in your relationship with Christ, will help you give a defense for your faith, and will help you guide others in their relationship with Christ. This is a 15-18 month commitment of meeting weekly where you will grow in your faith by communicating with God through prayer, learning to understand and apply God’s word to your life, storing God’s word in your heart, being more aware of opportunities to share Christ with others, and renewing yourself spiritually every day. If you are interested in being involved in a D-Group, contact Pastor Chris or Jim Yates. It’s exciting to see what God is doing!

Two mission trips are in the works to New Orleans and Immanuel Community Church!*November - Exact date TBA…I will keep you updated on all details soon!*June of 2020 - mark your calendars now!

Also Fort Worth, TX trip (July 7-12)

See You at the Pole (September 25) is an event held each September that encourages stu-dents to pray at their schools’ flagpoles. An event that started at the initiative of a small group of students on their school’s Texas campus in 1990, SYATP is now a worldwide event. This student-led gathering has morphed into a larger event than originally planned, as many gatherings have a devotion and music. However, the focus remains on praying together. Students will pray for their schools, teachers, administrative staff, peers, govern-ment, families, etc. In conjunction with SYATP, the week of September 22–28 is set aside as the Global Week of Student Prayer. Calvary will host an area-wide rally on Sunday, September 22 at 6 pm.

Would you commit to spending that week (or the entire month) praying for our students? Our focus this school year is on evangelism, so we are challenging our students to share their faith and giving them practical tips for doing so. Will you join me in praying for their courage to share the gospel? Will you pray for them to have the opportunity to impact their campuses on a daily basis for the sake of the name of Jesus?
