SCHOOL EVENTS
VANMAHOTSAVA 2018
Environment Club of Cambridge School, Noida observed Vanmahotsava on 6th July, 2018 by
organizing a tree plantation programme. The Principal, Ms. Dipannita Mondal, Vice Principal
(Administration) Mr. AK Bakshi, Vice Principal (Academics) Ms. Nandita Sinha Roy participated in
the plantation drive along with teachers and students of Environment Club. On the occasion
students recited a poem on the importance of plants and also delivered a talk on the relevance of
plantation.
Various ornamental and medicinal plants were planted. The Principal addressed the students and
urged them to explore, love and take care of nature. Students took part enthusiastically in the
plantation drive.

LECTURE BY AMBASSADOR ASHOK SAJJANHAR
A lecture on North Korean Nuclear Crisis was delivered by Ambassador Ashok Sajjanhar at
Cambridge School, Noida on 10th July 2018.The Guest lecture was organized by the Education
Resource Centre and Management Committee of the school. It was attended by Dr. Kalyani Roy,
Secretary SAE, Ms Purnima Mehta, members of the school management, Principal, Ms. Dipannita
Mondal and the students of Classes XI-XII from the host as well as the sister schools.
Mr. Sajjanhar began his talk by familiarising the audience with the geo – political alignment of the
East Asian Peninsula. He used the historical time line to explain the changing nature of
relationship between North and South Korea. Mr. Sajjanhar brought out an interesting historical
fact of an Indian princess, Suryaratna of Ayodhya who was married to the king of Korea in ancient
times. His talk focussed on the isolation and impoverishment of North Korea due to its association
with China. He spoke on the nuclear timeline of DPRK and how North Korea was labelled as “an
axis of evil” along with Iran and Iraq by President G.W. Bush of USA.
It was only in 2018 that the relations thawed between North Korea and U.S with the Trump- Kim
summit held in Singapore. Reflecting on the summit Mr. Sajjanhar felt that it was only bones and
no flesh as there was no clarity on how the process of denuclearisation would take place. Mr.
Sajjanhar concluded his talk by interacting with the audience and answering questions posed by
them.
INTERACT CLUB INSTALLATION CEREMONY
On 13th July, 2018 the Interact Club of Cambridge School, Noida organised an Installation
Ceremony to choose leaders to serve the community. The Chief Guest for the event was Rtr.
Sudhir Walia, President of Rotary Club, Noida. The ceremony began with the introduction of the
Rotary Club members followed by the national anthem and lighting of the the lamp.
Former ZIR, Anushree Mukherjee, introduced the guests and narrated her experience as an
Interactor. This was followed by a speech, poem and the annual report which was presented by
the former ZIR and President Sourabhi Agarwal. Lakshay Kumar the newly elected President of
Interact Club of Cambridge School, Noida gave a speech.

and more than fifty members took an oath to
uphold the motto of the club “SERVICE ABOVE
SELF”. Mr. Sudhir Walia motivated the students
and appreciated the work done by the Interact
Club in the previous year. Principal, Ms. Dipannita
Mondal thanked the guests for their presence and
congratulated all the post holders and motivated

INAUGURATION CEREMONY OF THE NEW BUILDING
The inauguration of the new building of Cambridge School, Noida was held on 9th July, 2018. Dr.
Kalyani Roy Secretary SAE along with Mr. B.M Sharma, the Chief Architect of the building and
other dignitaries jointly inaugurated the new building.

The programme commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the chief guest amidst
chanting of Shlokas, followed by a song by the students of the primary wing. The students also
delivered the keynote address where they read about the glorious journey of the school. Students
of junior wing presented a splendid dance performance leaving the spectators mesmerized. This
visual treat was then followed by a song by the school choir.
A cordial vote of thanks was presented by the students where they thanked Dr. Kalyani Roy for
her never ending contributions towards the progress and prosperity of the school.
AC DEB MEMORIAL ENGLISH DEBATE
Cambridge School, Noida organized the All India AC Deb Memorial English Debate in the Roma
Deb auditorium on 18th July, 2018. The topic for the debate was ‘Education in India has become
an end in itself rather than being a means to an end.’ Dr. Shatarupa Sinha from Gargi College,
University of Delhi, Dr. Shefali Shukla from Sri Venkateshwar College, New Delhi and Dr.
Sramana Majumdar from Ambedkar University were the judges for the event.
Seventeen schools took part in the competition. The debate commenced with the address of the
Principal, Ms. Dipannita Mondal, followed by the lighting of the lamp. All the participants debated
on the issue with zest and enthusiasm and shared their critical views on the education system of
India. The interjectors threw a volley of questions to the participants and each participant rose to
the occasion to defend their argument. The responses of the participants reflected how young
minds perceive the issues in the education system and how keen they are to make a difference. It
was a very thought provoking and insightful event as it re-established the importance and need of
a better education system in India.
Ishaan Jain of Cambridge School, Indirapuram won the prize for the best speaker while Ananya
Deswal of Army Public School and Saimm Khan of Cambridge School, Indirapuram secured
second and third position respectively. Mansi of Somerville School was declared the best
interjector and the prize for the best team was bagged by Cambridge School, Indirapuram.

LECTURE BY DR. RIMA SEHGAL
Cambridge School, Noida organised a workshop for the parents of senior students at the Roma
Deb Auditorium on 21st July, 2018. Dr. Rima Sehgal, a renowned Psychologist and Counsellor
began her session with a discussion on the adolescents of today through a case study of a 17
year old boy. She said that adolescence brings with it physical, hormonal, cognitive and
psychological changes which need to be understood by all adults. Dr. Sehgal discussed parental
challenges while dealing with discipline issues, emotional problems, peer, family and media
influences. She also stated that low self-esteem leads to protective behaviours which we may call
as difficult behaviour. The behaviour actually signifies a cry for relief. She advised the parents to
appreciate appropriate behaviour, understand their ward’s need for space, privacy-freedom,
provide honest and accurate information about sex, safety issues, protection, etc.; know their
friends and keep track of their activities, set boundaries and make rules that are appropriate. She
urged the parents to keep open lines of communication which may help reduce major conflicts.
She presented a slide show on internet safety risks for teenagers showing content, contact and
conduct risks. The lecture ended with an interactive session and the parents went back happy and
satisfied as their concerns had been addressed.
NCC ACTIVITY
World Yoga Day was held on 21st June, 2018 and 14 NCC cadets from Cambridge School, Noida
participated in the event.37 NCC BN Ghaziabad CO, Col Dheeraj Chandola, JCOs, NCOs, and
NCC officers as well as the Principal of GIC Noida were present at the event.

MEAL PLANNING ACTIVITY
The Class VII students of Meal Planning Club put up a food stall during the P.T.M on 21st July,
2018 at Cambridge School, Noida. Two groups of students from different sections of Class VII
showcased their culinary skills learnt during the Work Ex. period to the parents and other students.
The students managed the stalls which offered Veg. Chow Mein, Lemon Mojito and Bhel puri at
Rs. 20 per plate with great enthusiasm. They welcomed each and every guest very warmly and
received an overwhelming response from both parents and teachers.
The food was enjoyed by one and all, and the students’ efforts were well appreciated. The
students collected an amount of Rs. 2,170 which will be used as the students’ social responsibility.

INVESTITURE CEREMONY 2018-19
On 31st July 2018, the Investiture Ceremony at Cambridge School, Noida saw 75 students of the
newly formed student council taking a solemn oath in taking up charge in various capacities of
leadership. The chief guest for the occasion was Lt Col Tushar Mathur, an alumnus of Cambridge
School, Noida. Lt Col Mathur was commissioned in the elite Gorkha Regiment and presently he is
flying helicopters in the aviation wing of the Army along the Indo-China border in Assam and
Arunachal Pradesh.
The programme commenced with the lighting of the lamp amidst chanting of shlokas followed by a
performance by the school choir.
Then, Lt Col Tushar Mathur gave away the badges to the newly inducted members of the
Prefectorial Board through the pipping ceremony.
Harshpreet Singh and Khushi Sharma of Class XII were selected as the Head Boy and Head Girl
respectively. Anuj Kandwal of Class XI was appointed as the Vice Head Boy and Megha Bhartiya
of Class XI was chosen as the Vice Head Girl.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest, Lt Col Tushar Mathur inspired the students and
motivated them to make the correct choices in life, to seize the opportunities that come their way
and to be persistent in whatever they do in order to attain success in their lives.
The Principal, Ms. Dipannita Mondal in her address congratulated the newly elected prefects and
encouraged them to be role models for their juniors. The vote of thanks was proposed by the
school Head Boy and Head Girl at the end of the function.

WORKSHOPS AND SEMINARS
SUMMER INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME FOR STUDENTS OF PSYCHOLOGY
Fortis Hospital, Noida ,conducted an Internship Programme for Class XII students of Psychology.
In which multiple schools of Noida participated including Cambridge School, Noida. Many students
participated enthusiastically and were a part of a one week programme held from 4th June to 9th
June, 2018.
Many Psychologists discussed different topics related to Psychology during the week long
programme. It was a one-to-one interaction between the Psychology faculty of Fortis and so many
young minds, curious to learn Psychology in a more interesting way involving lots of queries,
questions and discussion of ideas.

STORY- TELLING SESSION: CLASS VII
A story – telling session was conducted by Ms. Indira Mukherjee, a story teller for almost twenty
five years who has been travelling in the rural and urban areas of India and parts of the USA,
telling and retelling different genres of tales to listeners in the age group of 3-8 years belonging to
different classes and communities.
Four sessions of storytelling were conducted by Ms. Indira Mukherjee, on 10th and 11th July 2018,
for the students of class VII wherein she mesmerised the students with short stories on the rich
cultural heritage of Adivasis like Gonds and Bhils of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. She showed
the paintings of Bhils mainly Bhuribai who is now a famous artist and how her paintings tell a
complete story of her life. The paintings are not merely depictions of figures or natural beauty but
they actually tell a tale. It was a very enriching session indeed as the students were motivated to
draw and depict the same idea as was shown in Bhuribai’s paintings.

MATHEMATICS THEATRE PRESENTATION
Mathematics theatre for Class VI was conducted on 30thJuly, 2018 on Ratio and Proportion. The
play was about how various characters experience use of ratio and proportion in daily life and how
the teacher explains the concept in class through examples. 23 students participated in the play
which included two dance performances. The students actively participated in the play and their
parents also encouraged them by their presence. The whole idea of this play was learning by
doing and how Mathematical concepts can be taught in a creative manner. Ms. Nandita Sinha Roy
(Vice Principal Academics) and Ms. Nalin Anju were present for the event.
BIOLOGY THEATRE PRESENTATION
As a part of theatre in education, Biology students of class XI and XII presented theatre on the
topic “TICK TOCK: OUR BIOLOGICAL CLOCK” in the Roma Deb Auditorium on 26th July 2018 at
Cambridge School, Noida. It was attended by Dr. Kalyani Roy, Secretary SAE, Col. Devdutt
Choudhury of ERC, Ms. Nalin Anju, Ms. Nandita Sinha Roy, Vice Principal (Academics), parents,
grandparents, Class XI Biology students of Cambridge School Srinivaspuri along with their teacher
and Class XID, XII D and XIIE of Cambridge School, Noida.

Students were briefed about the topic and its various aspects. Brain storming sessions were held
before finalizing the scenes. Students of Class XI prepared the script which underwent
modifications during the successive rehearsals. On the other hand, students of Class XII made the
PowerPoint presentation. It was a great learning experience for the students as there was scope
for research and presenting the theme with theatrical skills the life skills of students were
enhanced as the entire process involved team work, time management, empathy and self-
awareness.

SEMINAR ON MISSILE TECHNOLOGY
A seminar on Missile Technology was organized by
the physics teachers on 27th July, 2018 in the
seminar room at Cambridge School, Noida. Dr.
Hemant Kr Singh, HOD Physics, began with a
detailed introduction of missiles and their
classification. He also discussed about the fuel
used in the missiles, warheads and the working
mechanism of missiles. To make the power point
presentation more informative and interesting,
audio-visuals were used.

Mr. Angad Singh and Ms. Rachna Arora continued the
session with other details like - cost, coverage area and
history of the missiles.
Dr. Kalyani Roy, Secretary of SAE and Manager,
Cambridge School, Noida and Col. Chaudhary graced
the session along with other dignitaries. It was an
enriching experience for senior science students and
teachers who attended the seminar.
CAPACITY BUILDING FOR TEACHERS
TEACHERS TRAINING BY ROYAL SOCIETY OF CHEMISTRY, LONDON
A two day workshop on Chemistry Teachers Training Programme was conducted at Hindu College
by the Royal Society of Chemistry, London on 18th and 19th July 2018. About 66 teachers from 40
schools of Delhi and NCR took part in it. Ms. Arpita Paul (Department Of Chemistry) from
Cambridge School, Noida attended the event.
The programme was inaugurated by Mr. B. B. Sharma, IPS and Science Educator and other
eminent guests. Dr. Brijesh Pare, Vice President, Association of Chemistry Teachers discussed
how one can make teaching of Chemistry more interesting and how learning Science could be fun.
His stress was mainly on hands on activities and setting of conceptual questions. Ms. Jaya. P.
Swaminathan began her talk by discussing various attributes of teachers i.e. a teacher should be
aware of what learners find difficult, should have more than one way of explaining concepts, apply
ideas of everyday life, use practical work to support learning, is keen to keep his or her level of
expertise updated and should be an engaging communicator. In the quiz on various topics of
Chemistry Ms. Arpita Paul of Cambridge School, Noida got the first prize among all the teachers
and was awarded a portable Periodic Table.

TEACHER’S READING PROGRAMME
A meeting of the Coordinators of the Teacher’s Reading Programme was held on Tuesday, 31st
July, 2018 at 2.30 pm at the ERC. A discussion on the book ‘The Last Mughal’ by William
Dalrymple was taken up. Ms. Adrita Mukerjee and Ms.Prachi Anand from Cambridge Srinivaspuri
presented an analysis on the Introduction and Chapter 1 (A Chessboard King). It was an enriching
experience for the teachers who attended the programme.

COMPUTER SCIENCE WORKSHOP
A workshop was conducted on 27thJune, 2018, to introduce the new curriculum of Computer
Science and Informatics Practices in Class XI with effect from the Academic Session 2018-19. It
was hosted by DPS R. K. Puram with the aim to provide a common platform for the teachers of
Delhi and NCR, to understand the content of the new curriculum in order to maintain uniformity in
the teaching pattern. Around 300 teachers from the region attended the workshop. The resource persons were Mr Mukesh, HOD Computer Science from DPS R.K Puram, Ms.
Gurpreet Kaur, HOD Computer Science from G. D. Goenka International School Vasant Kunj and
Mr. Mohit, DPS Vasant Kunj. It was attended by Ms. Preeti Khanna and Ms. Jyoti Joshi of
Cambridge School, Noida.
