È il termine tedesco che indica il gusto nel-le arti decorative del trentennio che va’ dal 1815 al 1848. Con il termine “Biedermeier” si intese all’epo-ca indicare il classico borghese tedesco che, ancora non interessato dalle rivoluzioni che scuotevano l’Europa, era solo preso dai pic-coli problemi quotidiani e, di conseguenza, l’interesse maggiore era dedicato alla casa e al suo arredamento. Le guerre napoleoniche avevano impoverito la nazione e pertanto il contenimento delle spese era d’obbligo: ecco pertanto fiorire una produzione di mobili che abbandonavano le linee classiche, senza bronzi di decorazione, eliminato anche l’uso di legni pregiati tipo il mogano. Si producono insomma mobili robu-sti, non costosi, pratici, eleganti e soprattutto comodi con l’uso diffuso di essenze povere tipo il faggio rosso (al posto del mogano), im-piallacciature in ciliegio, acero, pero, frassi-no, betulla e parti di questi legni ebanizzate come contrasto. Tutte queste essenze si trovavano in abbon-danza in tutta Europa e questo stile, con gli stessi criteri costruttivi, si sviluppo’ anche nei Paesi Scandinavi ed in Russia.

La collezione “Biedermeier”

Dal 12 al 21 ottobre del 1983 si svolse a Regensburg-Germania, una delle aste più im-portanti del secolo battuta da Sotheby’s: gli arredi di una delle più importanti proprietà dei “THURN UND TAXIS” il castello di Re-gensburg. La maggior parte dei mobili era del settecento ma molti arredi erano di piena epoca “Bie-dermeier”. A questi pezzi ci siamo inspirati per la nostra produzione di mobili in stile “Biedermeier” a cui abbiamo fatto violenza solo per l’uso del le-gno: al posto di poveri legni europei abbiamo adoperato un prezioso mogano con finiture ebanizzate e profili in foglia oro o argento.

“Biedermeier” is the german term that indica-tes the decorative style born in the thirty years that went from 1815 to 1848.In that period the term “Biedermeier” referred to the classic german bourgeois who, not yet affected by the revolutions that were shaking Europe, was only concerned with his main in-terest: his home and its furnishings. The napo-leonic wars had impoverished the nation and therefore economy was necessary and a new style of furniture, which abandoned the classic lines, was born.A new production of strong, inexpensive, practical but elegant and confortable furnitu-re was started using poorer woods such as red beech instead of mahogany, veneers in cherry-wood, maple, pear, ash and birch with parts of these woods ebonized in contrast. All of these woods were easily found throughout Europe and this style, always keeping its same basic construction, developed in Scandinavia and Russia as well.

The “Biedermeier” collection

Between the 12th and the 21st of october 1983 at Regensburg-Germany, Sotheby’s held one of the most important auctions of the century: the furnishings of the most extensive proper-ty of the “TURN UND TAXIS” family: the Re-gensburg castle.Most of the furniture was 18th century but many pieces were from the full “Biedermeier” period. Our “Biedermeier” collection was in-spired by those beautiful models.The only changes made are in the choice of the wood: instead of poor european woods we have used a quality, precious mahogany with Ebonized finishing with gold or silver leaf.
