Camilla School 146-26500 Hwy 44 Riviere Qui Barre, AB T0G 1Y0 780-939-2074 TF 1-780-973-4311 Camilla Connection Dear Camilla Families: The first few days of October sure did bring us some nice sunshine and warmth so that we can continue to be outside and continue the harvest. I have great memories of this time of year. My father was a teacher and a farmer so fall time was very busy for us as many of you know all too well. After working all day at school, he loaded us up in the vehicle and we headed to our farm. My brothers worked with my father on the machinery and I with my mother in the garden, and preparing meals for the harvest crew. So as I drive to and from school in the mornings and early evenings, the sights and smells of the harvest are very familiar and it reminds me of the dedication it took for our parents to do this year after year. Now as an adult I understand what it took, and am grateful that I had those experiences with my family. I see dedicated parents and families each day here at Camilla and know that your love and guidance that you provide your children will last a lifetime and they too will be grateful for their experiences that have been provided for them. Looking to the future, our school board has moved Camilla school to #1 in the capital planning priorities for a new school. Being a part of building a new school will be exciting, and I look forward to hearing input from our community in the fu- ture. Camilla as usual was bustling with learning in the classrooms as students settled in, and extra-curricular excitement with cross country running, running club, volleyball teams, junior leadership, and choir, spirit day and Terry Fox run. We ap- preciate the time and dedication from staff, parents and students so much to make these events and clubs happen. I hope that everyone has a wonderful October and a very happy Thanksgiving! Here are just some housekeeping items to be reminded of: From time to time, issues arise that need to be discussed at the school level. Should you have any concerns about your child’s progress, or something that happened at school, please contact your child’s teacher directly. They can be reached by email or by phone. Should you feel that your concern is not being resolved through parent/teacher conversations, Mr. Chute and myself are more than happy to assist and help problem solve. We do want to foster Healthy Interactions here at Camilla school, and the best way to do that is to communicate first with your child’s teacher. Just a quick reminder that when you are picking up your child at any time of the day, please remember to come in to the school and sign them out. Thank you to those who do already! Parkingplease remember to not park in the bus lanes during bussing times. (8:15am-8:35 am and 2:30-3:10 pm) Any event or information that the school has been asked to advertise that is not school or division sponsored must have administration approval and then will be placed on our website under “Latest News” and not a part of the monthly newsletter. Please continue to use the school email to report absences or call the school directly. If you are still having bussing issues, please contact the transportation department 780-939-4341. We do want to ensure the safety of everyone at school, so please ensure that when you come to school that you regis- ter with the office, and not go directly to your child’s classroom. We have found that many students are arriving at school very early. The time between 8:00 and 8:30am is the time that teachers and support staff require for meetings, and to prepare for the day. Supervision of students is not pro- vided until 8:30am, when the students unload from the busses. If students are walking to school, or are bring dropped off and arrive earlier than 8:30am, we are asking that they wait patiently inside their assigned entrance. Thank you for your understanding. Read In Week is an initiative that is sponsored by Edmonton Public and Edmonton Catholic schools and is happen- ing during the week of October 5-9. We will be having something similar this year but it will not be the same week as our neighbors in Edmonton. Please watch for more information. Have a wonderful weekend! The Terry Fox Run and School Spirit Activities at Camilla

A big thank you to all of our Camilla Families for their ongoing support of our Terry Fox Run. Many classrooms completed numerous projects reflecting on the positive character traits of this inspiring and admired Canadian. Can you image the determination and com-mitment it would take to complete a marathon (26 miles) every day for 143 consecutive days? Our school raised just over $4800 for the Terry Fox Foundation. We are finalizing our tally so if there are any other pledges please have them sent to the school office as soon as possible. Terry Fox Run Top 3 Finishers: Kaeden Kinistino (gr. 9), Tanner McBride (gr. 3), Luke Cust (gr. 9), Katie Krukowski (gr.6), Brooke McBride (gr. 6), Cadence Pirtle (gr. 6).

Every year we participate in take you kids to work day. This a program in which Grade 9 students are hosted by parents, friends, relatives and volunteers at work-places across the country every November. The program supports career develop-ment by helping students connect school, the world of work, and their own fu-tures. Research suggests that today’s students will have multiple careers over the span of their working years. To be successful, they will need to master both new technologies and complex social and organizational systems. Learning in school becomes more effective and relevant if students can see where their education might lead them in the future. Spending a ‘day in the life’ of a profession or work-place is a fun and fascinating way to explore the world of work, think about career options, and make informed educational decisions.
