Are You Insured for Sewer Backup? Most homeowners and business insurance policies do not cover sewer backup unless specific sewer backup coverage is added to the policy. Obtaining an insurance rider on a homeowners or business policy would cover such damage if it occurs. Sewer backup coverage is available from most insurers for a nominal cost—usually $40-$50. Most homeowners and business owners may not realize that they are responsible for the maintenance and repair of their house or sewer lateral—the pipeline between the Town sanitary sewer main. The sewer lateral is owned and maintained by the property owner.

Some Causes of Sewer Backup

• Blockages Due to Tree Roots: Trees seeking moisture can make their way into sewer line cracks causing extensive damage. They may start out small, getting into a small crack in the pipe; but as the tree continues to grow, so does the root. Tree roots can enter the service pipe at joints and cause blockages. • Sanitary Main: A blockage can occur in a Town sanitary main. If the blockage is not detected in time, sewage from the main can back up into homes and businesses through floor drains. usually this happens slowly, giving the owner time to call the Town office and report the problem.

DID YOU KNOW....?If you reduce using your garbage disposal and consider composting your food you will be helping our environment. Try using a sponge and/or rag instead of disposable wipes to reduce the amount of trash your family generates.

The greater Camillus Chamber of Commerce (gCCC) objective is to advance the commercial, financial, industrial and civic needs and interests of greater Camillus. Simply put, the gCCC was developed to promote businesses and to increase growth as well as development of our community in a positive way.

FUN FACTSSurveyor general Dewitt began his work soon after he was given his instructions. A report was presented in July of 1790 at the meeting of the Land Office Commissioners, showing that twenty-five townships had been laid out. Township #5 was named Camillus, which included Elbridge and the present Town of van Buren.

The Town of van Buren as a separate community dates from 1829 when it was separated from Camillus.

One of the best known photographers in the Wild West photographed geronimo, Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday. His name---CAMILLuS FLy.

In 1930, a golf course was planned just southwest of Beverly Dr. and Onondaga Road. Had it been built, it would have been the hilliest in Central New york. It’s the present site of Terrytown Heights and Terrytown Hills.

The hamlet of Amboy at one time had a saw mill, grist mill, flour mill, cider mill, tannery, a strawberry box factory and a willow basket factory, and then, of course, in 1928 the Syracuse Municipal Airport was established on the Hinsdale farm.
