Here is an Example of providing a hittingassessment of a camp attendee to your program. We have broken down thecamp attendee hitting process into our
key teaching elements and providedsome text and voice assessmentfeedback. We have also included somevideo of some drills that we wouldrecommend to the camp attendee toimprove their hitting mechanics. Thesame process could be done for pitchersand catchers and fielding if desired.
The next step could be to offer a virtuallesson academy where these playerswould subscribe to your online service.Coaches could retrieve uploaded videoof the player executing particular drillsThe coach would provide someassessment and instruction and providea remote instruction session with the
client over the internet.

00:01 Stride
A short and soft stride isbest. While there havebeen hitters, such asDave Winfield, who havebeen successful usinglonger strides, theseplayers are extremelyrare. Long-striders,unless they possess
incredible strength, aresusceptible to breakingballs and off-speedpitches. Also, the longer the stride, the more thehead drops during theswing. Hitting a baseballis hard enough whenyour eyes remain level.Think about how hard it isif your head and eyes arebouncing up and down. That’s what happenswhen you take a longstride. Your eyes candrop several inches, making it very difficult to
focus properly on theincoming pitch.

00:01 Swing
The best swing is a short, quick, level swing thatutilizes the hands wristsand forearms to take thebarrel of the bat on adirect path to thebaseball. Because thebat starts at a positionthat is nearly level with
the back shoulder, a“level” swing means thatthe player really starts thebat in a downwardmotion, taking the handsright to the point wherethe barrel of the batintersects with the pitch. This allows the bat to
stay along a flat plane (or on the same flat path) for a longer time as it istaken through the hittingzone. The longer the batstays on the same plane, the better chance thehitter has of making solid
contact with the barrel of the bat. We like to say,“Get there quick and staythere long.” Many youngplayers make the mistakeof lowering their handsbefore taking themtoward the ball. Thiscreates a longer, looping
swing that is slower because it isn’tcapitalizing on thestrength in the wrists andforearms. That t e of

00:01 Contact
The optimal point of contact is out in front of home plate. To hit theinside pitch properly theball should be struck wellin front of the plate, allowing for acombination of maximumbat speed and solid
barrel contact. That’s whyline drive foul balls thatare pulled down the lineare hit so hard. A pitchdown the middle shouldstill be hit out in front, justnot as far out in front asthe inside pitch. If thebatter is too far out in
front on the ball down themiddle, the pitch will hitthe end of the bat.Similarly, a pitch on theoutside part of the plateshould “get deeper” andbe hit closer to homeplate and sometimes
even slightly behind thetip of the plate. Instead of telling a player that hehas to hit the outsidepitch to the opposite field,we like to “let theindividual swing takeover.” This means that if a player is pulling the
outside pitch and hittingline drives into theoutfield – and theapproach is proper, meanin that the batter is

00:01 Follow Through
If everything is donecorrectly to the point of contact, the followthrough should occur automatically, meaningthat the bat will wrap allthe way around the body.It doesn’t matter if a hitter
follows through with onehand on the bat or two aslong as two hands are onthe bat at the point of contact. There are manyexamples of big leaguehitters who do it bothways. You will notice thatthe highest percentagehitters tend to followthrough with the batslightly below shoulder level. Generally thismeans that they havemaintained that flat planeas the bat has traveled allthe way through the
hitting zone. A higher follow through generallymeans that the bat hasgone from low to high, which means the swinghas at least a slightupper-cut, which makes itmore difficult to makesolid contact with the
barrel of the bat.Remember, swinging updoesn’t give you a better chance of hitting home

ALAN COCKRELL BACKSIDE TOSS
The back toss drill is a drill specifically designed for those who
have difficulty letting the ball on the outside portion of the platetravel into the hitting zone. This drill will force us to contact theball deep in the hitting zone. It will also force our front side tostay on the ball and rotate through the ball to hit the ballcorrectly, driving it into right center field.

After the stride foot haslanded and we begin our rotation into contact, our lower half of our body is asource for power and our hands which are a sourceof direction need to workin conjunction towards
the baseball. A commonproblem with hitters of allages is that the lower half of the body gets ahead of the hands causing the batto drag and the bat willwork under the baseballresulting in missing theball or pop-ups.

00:01 STRIDE
As we get to the strideposition, it is important tonote that as we are aboutto begin our movementinto the baseball, our head is positioned in thecenter in the body, thehips and shoulders aresquared up to the pitcher
and the length and thesoftness of the stride. The stride should beanywhere from four to sixinches and when we landon the ball of our foot thatensures good balancemaking sure our headremains calm and still. This will help usrecognize the pitch.

00:01 ROTATION TOCONTACT
After the stride foot haslanded and we begin our rotation into contact, our lower half of our body is asource for power and our hands which are a sourceof direction need to workin conjunction towards
the baseball. A commonproblem with hitters of allages is that the lower half of the body gets ahead of the hands causing the batto drag and the bat willwork under the baseballresulting in missing theball or pop-ups.

00:02 CONTACT
As you can see just prior to the bat making contactwith the baseball, thehead stays centeredwhich allows for balanceand as the I enter thecontact position I amfirming up my front-side.This is similar to what you
would see with a boxer about to throw aknock-out punch. It is theleverage needed for thehands and bat to travelthrough the baseball anddrive the ball to all fields. You can also see that myhands are in a
palm-up/palm-downposition at the point of contact which allow for alevel swing to andthrough the baseball.

00:02 FOLLOWTHROUGH TO
FINISH
As we get to the followthrough and the finish of the swing, again we notethe position of the headand eyes past contact. Both the head and eyesremain down in the hittingzone to ensure the factthat the barrel of the bathas traveled fullextension through thehitting zone. The instantmy head and eyes comeout of the hitting area thebat will come up and off
of the ball out of the strikezone.
