The Worcester JCC provides a wealth of recreational, cultural, and educational activities for the Greater Worcester community in a warm and welcoming environment. Our beautiful facilities - indoor and outdoor pools, gym, playing fields, art studio, and more - create the perfect, safe setting for summer fun, regardless of the weather.

At Camp JCC there’s something for everyone from preschoolers through teens. We are open to people of all races, religions and skill levels.

Our flexible summer schedule enables you to mix and match weeks to best fit your family’s needs. Membership is not required for camp enrollment - but while your kids are here having a great time, please ask us how the Worcester JCC can be your year-round destination for health and fitness, community, connection, and culture! We welcome non-members to summer camp at the non-member prices. If you enjoy your time at the JCC and decide to join the JCC prior to August 15, we will credit the difference in rates to your membership.

BUS TRANSPORTATION FROM WESTBORO AND SHREWSBURYRound-trip bus transportation is available at an additional fee. First come, first serve / limited space available. Campers will be met at the JCC upon arrival and escorted to their groups.

At dismissal, campers will be escorted to buses for their return home. Bus counselors ride buses to help ensure the safety of all children. Available June 23—August 15.

CEll PHONES/ i-PHONES/BlACkBERRY/ETC.Campers are not allowed to have a mobile device at camp. If you need to reach your child you can contact the camp office and we will bring your child to the office.

FINANCIAl ASSISTANCE A limited number of need based scholarships are available. Interviews are required for first time applicants. Early application for scholarship is strongly encouraged. Submit camp registration with a refundable deposit of $25 per week/per child along with the financial aid application. If the deposit is a hardship registration, the registration will be put on hold until the application can be reviewed. To be considered in the first round, all paperwork and required interviews must be completed by Monday, April 14, 2014.

First round applicants will be notified by Monday, May 5, 2014 and must respond by Monday, May 19, 2014 to indicate whether or not the child will be attending or the camp space may be forfeited. Requests, after the first round, will be considered if funds are still available. Additional financial assistance requests will be processed as received until scholarship funds are depleted.

JEWISH CUlTURE Our day camps are open to people of all backgrounds and faiths. We all benefit from exposure to a variety of cultures and we embrace this value in our camps. Here at Camp JCC children of diverse faiths and cultures are exposed to Jewish and Israeli culture. We model and integrate into camp life the values that are common across many religions of being a good person, sportsmanship, “random acts of kindness,” social action and awareness.

lICENSINg Camp JCC is licensed by the Massachusetts State Department of Health. JCC meets or exceeds all of the health and safety guidelines set forth by the State of Massachusetts.

RED CROSS SWIMSwim lessons taught by American Red Cross certified instructors. If a child participates in 3 weeks of swim lessons, he/she will receive a certificate of achievement based on the level enrolled.

SECURITY AND SAFETY Campers safety is of utmost importance at Camp JCC. Many of our staff members have first aid certification and CPR training specifically for children. Camp staff augments the pool supervision provided by full-time American Red Cross certified lifeguards. Staff members have criminal background checks completed by the State of Massachusetts.

WHAT’S COOkINg?Creative, full of discovery and a whole lot of fun! Imaginations are free to run wild as kids discover science, math, reading and health through hands-on cooking class.

ARTS AND CRAFTSInspire children’s imagination and self-expression with hands-on activities; painting, sculpting, drawing, collage, crafts and more.

kID FITA unique program designed specifically for young children. Kid Fit will offer the children a rotation of Happy Feet Soccer, Hooray For Hoops Basketball, Kool Kicks Kickball and more. Children practice gross motor skills while practicing balance, coordination and agility.

MUSIC AND MOvEMENTCamp songs, creative movement, improvisation and rhythm games, with our own Early Child-hood music teacher, Miss Beth.

NATUREChildren use their natural curiosity to investigate and explore the world around them through hands-on activities.

Preschool summer program is an amazing summer experience designed for young children. As part of the JCC’s Early Childhood Department, it provides an exciting and developmentally appropriate program for each age group. Our “homebase” is the JCC’s beautiful air–conditioned Early Childhood Center with fully equipped preschool classrooms.

Look What Our Preschool Summer Program Has To Offer!Our caring professional staff is dedicated to creating an environment where your child will explore and share many adventures including Red Cross swim, music, sports, arts, cookouts, Israeli culture and nature. Preschool staff is composed of licensed preschool teachers and experienced counselors who warmly welcome your child every day.

Sandy Scola, Director of the JCC Early Child-hood Program began her 27 year career at the JCC as a classroom teacher. She worked her way through the ranks, teaching for 12 years, serving as Assistant Director and then as Director since 2007. Sandy has been Director of the Preschool Summer Program for 18 years.

Robin Burwick is Assistant Director of the JCC Early Childhood Program. Beginning her 20 year career at the JCC when her daughter was in the preschool, Robin spent many years teaching four-year-olds, and the last seven teaching in the Pre-K classroom. Former Director of the JCC’s School Age Camp, Robin is also Director of the Preschool Summer Program.

DAY CAMP Day Camp immerses children entering grades 1 - 6 in a wide variety of exciting, memorable, and enriching camp experiences. Our curriculum focuses on activities that enable children to grow, build relationships, and develop self-esteem throughout the season. Sports, swimming, climbing tower, Jewish culture and much more offer a variety of enriching experiences for our campers.

ARCHERY AT FIN & FEATHER ARCHERY Learn basic archery skills from experts. They will emphasize safety first and the funda-

mentals of archery. Stance, proper bow grip, drawing an arrow, anchor-ing a sight and release with follow through will be the focus on your way to gaining a working knowledge of archery. Weeks 1, 5 +$125 fee

ART CAMP AT THE WORCESTER ART MUSEUM This program was designed just for us! Campers will discover how an artist works and

what materials they use. Then they develop their own style in pen and ink, water-color, pencil, printmaking and more. No experience needed! Week 7 +$120 fee

BEADINg BONANZA Have fun and learn the basic principles of beading. Using wire, beads and various materials you will create bracelets, earrings, necklaces, key rings and more. Come join in the fun! Week 4 +$45 Fee

CAkE WARS Calling all future bakers! Measure, mix, bake, taste and take! Campers will be divided into teams as they face off in this fun cake baking and decorating competition! Week 1, 8

CANDlES & SOAP Pick your scents, colors and design your very own candles and soap! Learn different techniques in making candles and types of soap. Week 1, 6 +$45 fee

ClOWNINg AROUND Let’s clown around with Flippo the Clown! Your camper will learn the fundamentals of clown antics. Learn to make balloon animals, do a bit of magic and become the juggling champ. Show off your talents in a show at the end of the week! Week 3, 8 +$65 fee

FIElD DAY gAMES The JCC is transformed into a field of competition with this team on team elective! Campers are divided into teams to complete obstacle courses, tug of war, and critical thinking group games. Bring your A-game and good sportsmanship to this fun elective! Week 2, 6

gOlF AT CYPRIAN kEYES PGA golf pros will make you a pro. Each golfer will learn the following: proper grip, stance, swing mechanics, short games, long games, chipping, putting. The group will take what they have learned out onto Cyprian Keyes’ par 3 golf course. Collared shirt required. Week 4 +$130 fee

Megan Catlin, Camp Director has been at the JCC for 3 years as the After School Director and last year as Camp Co-Director. Megan was the Director of a community summer program for over 10 years. She brings her programming experience and love of working with children to the JCC’s camp program.

HIkINg AND NATURE CAMP 5 days of exploring the great outdoors. Rain or shine campers will learn how to read a compass,

identify plant and animal tracks. Campers will go off-site every day and walk some local trails, parts of the Rail Trail and take a final Friday hike to the top of Mt. Wachusett! All abilities welcome. Each participant will receive a compass and tracking packet. Week 6, 8 +$100 fee (10am—2pm)

HORSEBACk RIDINg Children will ride their way through the summer! A hands-on introduction to horseback riding and horse-

manship with professional instruction. Build character and confidence through a special relationship with horses. Week 4, 7 +$135 fee

IT CREEPS, IT CRAWlS & IT’S SlIMY Get your hands dirty this week exploring the critters around the JCC! Make ooey gooey slime, go on a frog hunt, and maybe even find a salamander hiding out under a rock. Every day will be something new in this elective! Week 3 & 7

lEgO ROBOTICS Join our Lego expert and be a part of our JCC team. Using the specialized technology developed by Lego and used in thousands of school throughout the US, children will learn to use Lego Programming language to create Lego cars that drive themselves and cranes that lift objects. Let your imagination soar! All abilities welcome! Weeks 3/4, 5/6, 7/8, Limit 12 +$125 fee

MAD SCIENCE Campers will learn, explore and create experiments of all different kinds. If you want to have fun, get a little messy and learn a thing or two…this elective is for you! Week 5

MOSAIC MADNESS Learn to use traditional mosaic techniques as you create unique works of art! Tile and grout your own mosaic masterpiece! Let your imagination run wild as you use glass, tiles and even broken dishes in your creations. Week 2, 6

NOTHINg BUT NET Campers will learn the basic fundamentals of “net games”. Master the skills for games such as: tennis, soccer, volleyball, badminton, and more! Week 1, 5, 8

PAPER MACHE If you like to work hands-on with crafts and have something to show for it, this elective is for you! Campers will use their creativity to cut, dip mold, and paint different projects throughout the week. Week 4, 8

SAIlINg AT lAkE qUINSIgAMOND All you “landlubbers”, come sail away with us at the JCC. We will learn how to sail at Lake Quinsigamond with certified staff that will teach students everything from water safety to tying knots. You’ll learn everything you need to know to be “shipshape”. Week 3, 8 +$120 fee

TENNIS AT PAXTON SPORTS CENTER Learn the many skills and techniques of tennis. Beginners are welcome as well as advanced players. We will travel to the Paxton Sports Center where you will learn tennis from the pros. Week 3, 5 +$120 fee

WAll ClIMBINg Climb the 25 foot, outdoor climbing tower. Children will participate in basic upper body strength training to help them reach new heights in their climbing skills. Trained staff provides instruction on the proper use of safety equipment. All weeks

WHAT’S COOkIN’ Calling all cooks! We will explore and make different ethnic foods. Campers will make yummy snacks and even some delicious treats in this Oh So Good…elective! Week 3

WIDE WORlD OF SPORTS Campers will learn and play many different sports and games from around the world. Italy, China, Ireland and beyond… Join the fun! Week 4

YOgA This elective will promote inner strength, confidence and self-esteem, through breathing and meditation techniques taught by our certified yoga instructor. This elective is a fun and creative approach to Yoga for all children. Week 4 +$45 Fee

John Dietel, Assistant Physical Education and Fitness Director has 13 years of coaching experience in youth and high school sports. John is currently Asst. Varsity Basketball Coach at Burncoat High School. In addition to supervising the Fitness Center and Recreation leagues at the JCC, John is a Stronger Team Certified basketball performance professional and conducts athletic performance clinics for athletes of all ages.

Bob Berman, Health & Physical Education Director brings over 30 years of administrative experience coaching youth sports and directing camps. Bob was recently inducted into the New England Basketball Hall of Fame as an administrator for his contributions to youth basketball throughout New England.

FITNESSThis one hour fitness elective will be offered each day for all sports campers grades 3 - 8. Activities include aerobic classes, circuit training, boxing fitness, spinning, small group training and athletic performance training. K - 2 will take part in daily age appropriate kids fit activities. Week 1, 2, C

Campers will receive instruction in a variety of sports. Skill sessions, contests and scrimmage games will help campers improve their level of play in a fun and exciting atmosphere. Baseball, basketball, soccer, gaga, Jr. Olympic skills competition, NHL street hockey, track and field, lacrosse, team handball, tennis, NFL flag football, dodgeball, Mass Wiff whiffle ball tournaments, capture the flag are just some of the sports to choose from during our All-Sports Camp sessions. Daily swim option plus elective periods provide campers with a fun-filled experience. The All-Sports Camp instructors will be members of the JCC Health & Fitness Department and other qualified staff.

Campers will challenge their fine and gross motor coordination as they improve confidence and self-esteem while they are participating in fun activities, such as spinning plates, balancing, juggling, walking on stilts, unicycle, and much more. The program culminates with campers participating in a circus style show. Gary has performed extensively with Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Circus. He is well known throughout New England for his programs given each year at many elemen-tary schools, including Flagg Street School. This program will be a great compliment to a wide range of other great sports and activities throughout the week! Week 6

lACROSSERising Stars will come to our camp and provide special instructional clinics throughout the week to help campers learn basic fundamentals of this fast growing sport. Week 5

CIRCUS PERFORMINg “gARY THE SIlENT ClOWN”

Sports Camps provide expert sports instruction in a supportive atmosphere of fun and camaraderie. Our primary emphasis is on skill and technique paired with an appreciation of teamwork and strategy. Our co-ed camps are a safe and productive place where kids learn to improve their skills and have a great time. Campers make use of the JCC’s athletic facilities: newly renovated gymnasium, outdoor ball fields, basketball and tennis courts, 25 yard indoor and outdoor pools, and gymnastics studio. Sports Camp includes Thursday lunch cookouts for all participants.

Expert staff composed of top high school and college coaches, help campers better understand the game of basketball and develop basketball fundamentals, understand the concepts of teamwork and good sports-manship in a fun and safe environment.

Director ADAM STROGOFF... Adam Strogoff is the former head coach of the Worcester Academy Girls Varsity Soccer team and led the team to three New England Championships in his eight years with the program, compiling an overall record of 102-14-23 in the process. Under his guid-ance, the team won the NEPSAC Class A title in 2011, its first year of Class A play, and NEPSAC Class B championships in 2008 and 2009. The team was a New England finalist in 2010, semifinalist in 2005 and 2007, and quarterfinalist in 2006 and 2012. In 2008 Adam was named the NSCAA Massachusetts Private School Coach of the Year. He brings years of soccer camp experience having worked at numerous soccer camps throughout New England.

The TAF Junior Triathlon Camp is designed to introduce kids from grades 3 - 10 to the exciting sport of triathlon. Focus will be on skill development and fun. Instruction will include swim stroke improvement, bike handling and safety, run skills, warm up routines and nutrition. Recreational fun and games will be offered too. TAF Junior Triathlon Inc. is a non-profit organization whose mission is the promotion of a healthy lifestyle that young triathletes can develop for a lifetime.

He played with the Boston Red Sox, Houston Astros, and St. Louis Cardinals and participated in two American League Championship Series and the 1986 World Series. He was the 1981 Sporting News Rookie of the Year and

SUMMER SWIM LESSONS WILL:• Prepare your children for a summer of fun and a lifetime of

LEVEL 1 - Introduction to Water Skills: This class is designed for children who have no swimming skills. Children must be able to follow directions and hold on to the wall by themselves.

LEVEL 2 - Fundamental Aquatic Skills: Participants must have passed Level 1. This class is designed to give students success with fundamental skills. Students learn to float by themselves and recover in a vertical position. They begin to move in both alternating and simultaneous arm and leg motions on the front and back to lay the foundation for future strokes.

LEVEL 3 - Stroke Development: Participants must have passed Level 2. This level builds on coordination of the front crawl and backstroke and introduction to elements of the breaststroke and fundamentals of treading water. Basics of water entries will be introduced.

LEVEL 4 - Stroke Improvement: Participants must have passed Level 3. Increase the development of the front and back crawl

with increased distance and coordination. Build on the butterfly stroke and refine skills of the elementary

backstroke and breaststroke. Basics of turning on the wall will be introduced.

A non-refundable deposit of $75 per week/per child of camp is required and must accompany each camp application. No refunds or pro-rated adjustments for missed days, including illness, family situations and vacations. Forfeited deposits/fees may not be applied to other weeks/programs/fees.

Payment for all camp fees are due in full by Friday, May 16, 2014. After May 16, payment in full is due at the time of registration. Children will not be permitted to attend camp if fees are not paid in full. No refunds of any fees after Friday, May 16, 2014.

All changes, including changing weeks enrolled, after Friday, May 16, 2014, will incur a $25 change fee per child.
