Sparks are the activities that make you feel alive. They are the things that excite you, energize you, motivate you, and make you feel you have a purpose. Sparks are central to our {THRIVE}OLOGY program. We emphasize them so much because our research proves: Give young people the opportunity to find their sparks, lift their voices and discover who they areand theyll change the world. But research also shows 38 % of kids dont know what their spark is. They need support from adults, and freedom to explore and discover their sparks. Youth can find that at Camp Fire, and you can also be a Spark Champion. Ask a kid in your life questions like these: What are your hobbies? What do you like to watch on TV? Whats been the most exciting part of your school year so far? What did you do this weekend? What do you enjoy about that [hobby, show, thing you did]? Why do you think you enjoyed it? Think about your own this month and resolve to make them part of your daily routine in 2019. WOHELO! Are you a Camp Fire Alumna? Whether you spent your summer at camp, OR discovered Camp Fire after-school programs, OR earned emblems in a club, you will always be a part of the Camp Fire family. January: Sparks! Our theme for January is SPARKS. Sparks are the

activities that make you feel alive. They are the

things that excite you, energize you, motivate

you, and make you feel you have a purpose.

Sparks are central to our {THRIVE}OLOGY

program. We emphasize them so much because

our research proves: Give young people the

opportunity to find their sparks, lift their voices

and discover who they are…and they’ll change

the world.

But research also shows 38 % of kids don’t know

what their spark is. They need support from

adults, and freedom to explore and discover their

sparks.

Youth can find that at Camp Fire, and you can

also be a Spark Champion. Ask a kid in your life

questions like these:

• What are your hobbies?

• What do you like to watch on TV?

• What’s been the most exciting part of your

school year so far?

• What did you do this weekend?

• What do you enjoy about that [hobby, show,

thing you did]?

• Why do you think you enjoyed it?

Think about your own this month and resolve to

make them part of your daily routine in 2019.

WOHELO!

Are you a Camp Fire Alumna?

Camp Fire Celebrates Arbor Day! Arbor Day in Florida is celebrated January 18, 2019, and Camp Fire Gulf Wind will be part of it! Each Camp Fire Gulf Wind Site will receive a tree to plant from the Escambia County Extension Service. You can have your own Arbor Day tree by going to the Arbor Day Tree Workshop and giveaway, details below.

Arbor Day is a special day that is set aside throughout the world to raise awareness of trees and the important role that they play in our environment. The day is celebrated on different dates around the world, depending on local seasons and temperature. When people wonder 'why is Arbor Day important' they only have to look at the destruction and long term damage that deforestation has on the environment to realize that the issues are as important today as they have ever been. Trees can no longer be taken for granted and it is important that we all learn more about trees and the role that they play in order to fully appreciate their place in our environment.

Planting trees is obviously an important part of Arbor Day and if you cannot plant a tree in your garden, then many groups organize tree planting events. Making posters or other publicity materials is another way that people can help to support Arbor Day. In addition to raising awareness of trees, another way of supporting Arbor Day is to learn more about the use of products that are derived from trees, such as wood and paper, and understand how these can be created and managed in a sustainable way. Recycling paper is also important as this helps to preserve the stock of virgin materials.

Our Promise

Young people want to shape the world.

Camp Fire provides the opportunity to find their

spark,

lift their voice, and discover who they are.

In Camp Fire, it begins now.

Light the fire within

Our staff is trained in and dedicated to this promise.

With programs such as InterACTION for middle school

and Teens in ACTION in high school, we are helping

youth learn to serve, lead and develop a growth mindset.

These youth-led programs encourage exploration and let

youth make a difference NOW.

Scenic Heights Afterschool

In December we talked about Christmas and what it meant

to each of us. We did lots of Christmas crafts, had a

Christmas party and made Rudolph noses. Last day of

School before winter break we had a pajama party! In

January we will discuss Martin Luther King and our sparks.
