What is Epilepsy?• Epilepsy is a malfunction in the nervous system that causes

seizures. • Because of these seizures, people with epilepsy sometimes

cannot do activities that other people can.• Camp Roehr provides these kids an opportunity to participate

in regular summer camp activities and learn more about epilepsy.

Camp Roehr• Camp Roehr is located in

Belleville, IL. and holds one weeklong session each summer.

• The camp is open to any child/teenager diagnosed with epilepsy in the U.S. because very few special needs camps accept children diagnosed with epilepsy.

• The age range of the children who attend is from 6-18 years old with the majority from Illinois and secondly Missouri.

Activities at Camp Roehr• The camp offers many activities to its campers including arts and crafts,

hiking, swimming, wilderness exploration, dancing, and archery, as well as many others!

• All of this is experienced in a fun, safe environment with great councilors and volunteer medical support staff.

• This gives these kids an opportunity to make new friends and have a normal summer camp experience while building their strengths and having fun!

Who inspired Camp Roehr?• The camp is named after Mr. Tony Roehr who was a strong

advocate for those with developmental disabilities and had a close relationship with the Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Southern Illinois.

• After Mr. Tony Roehr died in 1991 it was decided to honor him by naming the camp after him.

• The name Roehr also inspired the motto:

Ruling

Over

Epilepsy

Helps

Realize Dreams

Where Donations Go

• Most donations to Camp Roehr are used for scholarships to allow more children to attend camp.

• Because of generous donations, they have been able to keep the camper fee at $500.

• The camp also uses donations for food, nursing supplies, and discounts on items such as golf carts for the camp and camp tee-shirts.
