CommunityWhere youth belong and grow strong

TANADOONA

At Camp Tanadoona we understand and value this important time when youth are gaining a sense of who they are and who they want to be. That is why we give youth the opportunity to flourish with hands-on outdoor experiences that awaken their senses, curiosity and desire to learn.

Building friendships, succeeding at new adventures, feeling the encouragement of a community that cares about each other - these are the experiences that make Camp Tanadoona a place where youth build their caring and confidence to become future leaders.

Suburban Location, Northwoods Feel:Just minutes from the Twin Cities, Tanadoona is nestled between Chanhassen and Excelsior, MN. In 1924, when Camp Tanadoona was originally established, it had been the rural retreat home of former Minnesota Governor, John Lind. Now, even as this area has changed from rural to suburban, our camp retains its rustic charm.

Staff Who Put Kids First:We employ only the most dedicated adults to be part of our team. Working to encourage each child’s unique strengths, our staff bring a caring and enthusiasm that boosts the self-confidence of our campers. All our staff members undergo a background check and intensive training before camp begins, as well as ongoing support during the camp season.

Amenities:* 40-foot Climbing Wall * Challenge Course* Water Trampoline * Archery Range* Nature Center * 60 Acres of Wooded Trails* Arts & Crafts Lodge * Sandy Lakefront Beach* Canoe & Kayak Fleet * Large Playing Field* Giant Swing * Camp Store* Geocaching

Top Industry Accreditation:Camp Tanadoona is accredited by the American Camp Association, meeting 300 rigorous national standards for state-of-the-art camp operation. Standards address every aspect of camp, from the safety of canoes and cabins and the temperature of food to having a registered nurse and trained counselors on staff. 2

Welcome Families,

As the new Outdoor Programs Director, I am excited to be here in Minnesota and at Camp Tanadoona. I’ve been working with camps for 12 years, and I come to you with a wealth of knowledge and an extensive skill set that will only add to the top notch programs already available at Camp Tanadoona. In response to requests from parents, this year we are introducing a new Explorer Day Camp for four-year-olds. These young camper sessions will introduce four-year-olds to camp in a small-group setting with a limit of 10 campers each session.

As always, we at Camp Tanadoona and Camp Fire USA Minnesota Council are dedicated to building caring, confident youth and future leaders through age-appropriate outdoor experiences, cultural enrichment and allowing kids to be kids in a safe and encouraging environment.

I look forward to meeting all of you. I know that Camp Tanadoona will be a great fit for your summer needs.Building the campfire,

No bonus will be given for referrals to families that have previously attended Camp Tanadoona.

Camp families can donate to this fund using the registration form. Donations are tax deductible. Thank you for helping more youth have the chance for positive outdoor experiences.

CABin mAte Requests foR oveRnight CAmPCampers may request one friend to share a cabin with at camp. This cabin mate should be the same age* and gender. Each day, campers move between groups for different activities. This helps everyone get to know each other. If registering for multiple sessions with different buddies, please indicate the week for each buddy.

Buddy Requests foR dAy CAmPCampers may request one friend to be paired with at camp. This buddy should be the same age* and registered for the same session (i.e. Week A-Day Camp Plus: Explorers). Buddies spend most of the day together. We ask that you only request one buddy; having more than one can disrupt the group dynamics and lead to children feeling left out. If registering for multiple sessions with different buddies, please indicate the week for each buddy.

* Special arrangements can be made. Please contact the camp director at (952) 474-8085 for further information.

CAmP stoRe PoliCiesAll campers will have the opportunity to purchase snacks and souvenirs from the camp store. Items available include Tanadoona gear, stuffed animals, freezy pops, drinks and other snacks. Campers will be able to visit the camp store each day.

Parents/guardians may deposit any amount in their child’s camp store account during registration or camper check-in. If necessary, parents should submit any special instructions for the account to Camp Fire in writing prior to or during check-in.

Parents/guardians will be notified of any balance remaining in their child’s camp store account at the end of the camp season. Parents/guardians may choose to donate their balance to the Camp Fire Campership Fund or have their balance refunded. All refunds will be subject to a $1.50 processing/postage fee. Balances at or below the processing/postage fee ($1.50) will be automatically donated to the Camp Fire Campership Fund.
