View this email in your browser Dear Westminster Students, Since assuming the role as your Interim President and Chief Transformation Officer, I have promised to uphold the values of this institution: Integrity, Respect, Responsibility, and Fairness. The pandemic of COVID-19 is no exception to this promise, and therefore I write this email with concern for our Westminster community and ask for your help in upholding these values by keeping our campus safe. As you know, our staff, faculty, and administration worked very hard this summer to prepare campus facilities and classrooms to allow for in-person instruction. We adequately distanced seating in virtually all buildings, including our classrooms, offices, and dining facilities. We developed new cleaning protocols, installed hand- sanitization stations throughout campus, and instituted a campus-wide mask policy. We continue with a great deal of behind-the-scenes prevention work each day. The daily labor and policies were developed with your health and safety as the ultimate priority, and up to this point, we have taken a balanced and fair approach as a college, entrusting our students with the ultimate responsibility of following the protocols we put into place. On- and Off-Campus Activities As can be the case in life, the decisions of a few can impact the lives of many; therefore, we need your help in adhering to our campus policies to ensure we continue with in-person instruction. Currently, the City of Fulton does not require masks, and not all local businesses adhere to the same guidelines outlined for our campus. Therefore, you must continue to educate yourselves on our policies and exercise caution and good judgement before visiting off-campus establishments. With respect to our campus, we will no longer allow registered events sponsored by campus clubs/organizations, including fraternities and sororities, for the fall semester. These events typically promote large gatherings and currently contradict our efforts in following campus health guidelines. Adherence to COVID-19 Policies Please refer to the COVID-19 section of our website for additional details regarding our campus policies and procedures as they relate to prevention and response. As you will see on the website, we provide regular updates to the number of COVID-19 cases of our students, staff, and faculty. We also report if those individuals are isolating on campus and/or recovered. In addition, we are dedicating an email address to COVID-19. Please direct all questions and concerns to [email protected]. As mentioned previously, it is your responsibility to understand and adhere to our COVID-19 policies, as you could face disciplinary action if you fail to comply. Some examples of non-adherence may include not following the mask policy, hosting external guests on campus, violating isolation or quarantine, etc. If individuals choose to stay on campus during isolation and/or quarantine and are found to be in violation of the outlined procedures, they may be temporarily or permanently restricted from campus housing. In such cases, they will not be eligible for refunds and are subject to paying full room and board costs incurred for that semester. Virtual Student Town Hall We genuinely want each student here to feel Westminster is a home-away-from home, where intellectual growth is fostered in a healthy environment. By working together, we can ensure a safe learning and living environment for all. With this goal in mind, I want to remind you of the upcoming Virtual Student Town Hall that will take place from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 3. The panel discussion will take place on Zoom and include Vice President and Dean of Student Life Dr. Kasi Lacey, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of Faculty Dr. David Roebuck, and Director of Athletics Matthew Mitchell, and me. Prior to the Town Hall, please feel free to submit any questions you may have to my office at [email protected]. I look forward to hearing from you this Thursday. Meanwhile, thank you for your support in adhering to these requirements and continuing to do your part to ensure the health and safety of Westminster College. Although nobody knows how long the pandemic will last, with your help, we can anticipate better days ahead for our entire campus community. Translate
