Recruitment

One in five respondents said that the sporting opportunities offered by a college were influential in their decision to apply.

Achievement

Over one-quarter (28.8%) of College students who took part in sport agreed that ‘taking part in sport helps them with their College work’. A further 8.4 per cent strongly agreed with this statement.

Attendance and retention

68% of students who are involved in Newham SFC’s sports teams have attendance or 90% of more, compared with a College average of 57%.

At Totton College attendance was 3.78% higher in 2011/12 and 3% in 2012/13 for Sport Academy students than non-sport, FT learners.

Colleges train over 85,000 learners each year in industry-related sport qualifications.

• Impact of student engagement in sport on employability

• A positive relationship (but not causal) between engagement in sport, future employability and earnings for students in both further and higher education.
