Carried Ad Hoc Committee (Groundwork: Search for Executive Director) John Vanderstoep reported that the committee had decided that the person who fills the position of Executive Director should be a professional manager first and formost. Most of the specific recommendations, while still valid, may now be postponed in light of the motions passed as a result of the planning committee report. Finance Committee The committee reported that the financial status of the Institute appears to be in reasonable condition. It was noted that the investment income as previously projected, has been and will likely continue to be significantly lower for the next several years due to decreased interest rates. Moved by John Vanderstoep, sec- onded by Martin Stauvers that the Honoraria paid by the Institute be as proposed in the Finance Committee report (Secretary and Treasurer $500 each, Translation Advisor $1,000, Business/Advertising Manager $1,000, Editor $1,400, Associate Editors (9) $100 each.) (Appendix 4) Public Policy Committee Art Creene reported that last September he had requested from all sections public policy submissions and has to date received no response. As a result, support was sought for the idea of putting a call for public policy papers in the October CIFST Journal in order to reach all members. It was decided that it is important that individual members know there is a mechanism to submit policy items. Ad Hoc Committee re Professional Qualifications & Accreditation of University Food Science Program In presenting this report, John Vanderstoep pointed out that the pur- pose of the committee was to develop a clear and detailed statement of the educational and experiential re- quirements for individual membership in the Institute and concurrently under- take a review of the current member- ship classes as to their appropriateness. The committee has concluded that it is necessary to sound out the present membership by means of a presentation on "credentialing" and ensuing discus- sion as part of the symposium on "Food Science Education Criteria". Ad Hoc Committee on the HPB Symposium Cordon Brown noted that problems have been encountered due to adver- tising being behind schedule for the symposium on "Extraneous Matter in Food-Detection and Identification" slated for Montreal (June 13-15, 1983) Toronto (June 20-22, 1983), and couver (June 27-29, 1983). He reported that space was still available for all three locations but hoped to fill the vacancies during the Conference. By-Laws Advisor's Report Last fall the French version of the By- Laws was reviewed and those areas in which the French was inaccurate or questionable were referred to the Translation Advisor for correction There were no motions passed at this Council meeting which require By-Laws changes at this time.
