there is a growing consensus that, without a global and effective effort, we will not reach the MDG

Rio Declaration, August 2006

Page 16: Canadian Public Health Association 2008 Annual Conference Halifax, Nova Scotia June 1-4, 2008

Recognizing the enormous impact of poverty, famine, conflicts inner and inter nations, global warming, etc, etc is not enough!

To national governments and to the UN organisms, there is an urgent need for effective responses. To civil societies movements, there is an urgent need for a comprehensive and solidarity agenda for warranty the human rights and the health of our people.

Let’s joint the voice of those claiming for a new social contract toward international public health.

Paulo Buss President of the World Federation of Public Health

Associations (2008-2010)

‘(...) We all know that the greatest challenges on Public Health

will not be solved only by improving attention for sick people

(…) thus, for Brazilian people to achieve better health

it’s mandatory that the State and the Society joint together

to implement intersectoral actions and policies.’

José Gomes Temporão – Minister of Health

Salvador – August 2007
